The company that has the original product can change their product design periodically.
There are some companies that will leave QR code that you can scan on the item they produced so that their customers can scan it on their device to know if it is original or not original.
The original companies should also learn how to reduce the chance of the fake products to be in their society.
Who are criminals known that they are criminals. It is just like saying scam is not legal when everyone knows that scam is not legal.
You're right. This case of fake products or deceptive advertisment is a big problem in the country as we speak and it is also very difficult to identify in the early stages. You talked about using QR code. Most of these fake products dealers usually use a container from the original product which automatically takes you to the original product website when you scan the QR code. This has even made the technology to be almost irrelevant.
In the beverage industry, most times even the expired items do have their expiry dates cleaned and adjusted until they are sold out. NAFDAC have destroyed so much quantities of pharmaceutical products especially during the days of Dora Akunyili and even in recent times. Those bad eggs also buy printing machines and print the exact label for the original product and use it to bag the fake ones. We probably take fake products everyday even after paying for the original product. Most of these fake products are very confusing to identify too.
You talked about frequent changes of labels. This will go a long way to minimise these fake products even though it may be adding additional cost to the product due to constant changes and advertisement .In addition, I will suggest that these companies should also publish the date of expiration of the last batch of their products in the old containers too and if possible, they can publish the batch numbers of products sent to the various regions of the country and also key it into their system for easy searches.
