So my question is, what license replaced Curacao now? What license do casinos prefer today because it’s easier to get and less strict?

It would be a good idea to select a licence that would meet the highest standards to guarantee the safety of each of the transactions. I still think that Curacao is in a good position as a license provider because various articles and surveys have shown that the Curaçao Gambling Authority is still in a good position after the UK Gambling Commission. So first of all, I don't think that anyone has replaced the Curacao license provider yet and if they do replace it in the future, then there is nothing surprising here.
Because currently it is an era of competition, here the license providers are also in competition with each other. Deception or no deception, gambling site licensing is expensive. This is one of the means people can easily know fake sites, although some gambling sites might have license but be shady.

Licence is just a way for the casinos to tell their customers that they are in safe hands, but they can still go ahead and do whatever they (the casino) want. I also want to ask if there are means to verify a licence online without having to pass through the process of contacting the licensing authority to see if a licence code is real or fake.

Maybe because too many online casinos have emerged and not all of them display their business here and coincidentally those that display their business here are not those with a Curaçao license so it seems that there are few or increasingly rare ones with a Curaçao license, but Curaçao is the most well-known license, and if more casinos are licensed then budget could be the reason.

I do remember Curacao license and until now, I still see a lot of it from existing gambling site. If I am not mistaken Curacao license is one of the easiest license you can get to start a gambling site that offers no tax, and I think that's what businesses wants, I think they don't tax on gambling revenue and they have a very low corporate tax, that's why a lot of gambling site prefers it.

Upon doing some small research, I think you are right @Natalim, a lot of things have changes compared to late 2024, and they have much stricter and have different approach. I think it is to improve their credibility. I'm not sure what would replace it because Curacao license is still one of the cheapest licensing option out there, but I think I've seen a lot now that has a Anjouan license, I think it's one of the cheaper options too.

It seems that the reorganization of the Curaçao Gambling Authority. Some officials of the board resigned, which was a big blow to the organization. It also seems that they came up with new regulations that are not favorable to casino owners. 

Anjouan is becoming popular with some casinos choosing to have their license. It is cheaper, easy to get, and tax-friendly. 

These licensors do little or nothing for casino users. Complaints are hardly responded to or handled. However, seeking cheap and untreusted lincence is bad for gamblers.

There are many other licensing but Curacao is still the most popular amongst other license, after Curacao, I think that one that follows it is Malta, Kahnawake, Panama, Isle of Man, Gibraltar, Comoros (Anjouan), Tobique, Alderney and Costa Rica, respectively. I don't know about Curacao being replaced, but I've seen a lot Anjouan gaming license on casinos lately, so maybe it is gaining popularity since it might be less strict compared to Curacao. As for whether this change is good for players, I do not know, but Casinos will always find a license that is easy to get.

I don't think that Curacao was replaced, instead the internal system was overhauled to enable a new government take over. We have the national ordinance on games of chance, LOK as the current governing body, of which all casinos get licensed the gaming authority. The rules are stricter now as we have experienced and it includes KYC requirements and AML rules and policies.

Some casinos always try to evade the rules of regulations and licensing, hence why they prefer using more underdeveloped regions like Anjouan or Costa Rica, and it is a red flag if you notice this because it would mean it is hard to make a complaint or find a body that's willing to listen to you when you report an issue.

I don't know if it has been replaced by another entity, but perhaps they might have overhauled everything. And there could be some competitions or there are alternatives besides the Curacao license like:

1. Malta
2. Isle of Man Gambling Supervision
3. Gibraltar Regulatory Authority

And we all know that Curacao license is easy to get as compare to the 3 mentioned above. And maybe crypto based casinos are moving to them because they are more strict and probably we gamblers wanted a better licensing entity than Malta.

I think Malta nowadays and even years before was a safe haven for gambling. I remember a neighbor of mine gone there for a better life and he truly achieved it by working in some casino there, he improved his life greatly there and I don't know about crypto casinos but surely those non crypto are striving there. Honestly I even had a job offer from some data center company that dealt exactly with these casinos, some of them even crypto ones so I believe that even crypto ones are striving in that country. The only reason I did not accept was I just had started a new comfortable job.

Currently, many casinos use Anjouan licenses because the process is easy and not long, and the fees are cheaper in Anjouan than Curacao.

Well Curacao never went anywhere and is still considered a "premium" place to license your casino in, but that is exactly the problem. Lots of other small offshore countries realized that one of the few big money makers they could do with little upfront investment was allow companies to virtually base their headquarters in any country that would accept them. Let's imagine that Curacao was charging $100k per year to acquire and maintain a license, plus casinos had to work with their regulator to address any customer complaints or it would be revoked. Now imagine mystery island number 2 could come in and offer licenses at $75k a year while promising even less regulation. It's a no brainer really and lots of different micro countries are now competing for this line of business for the shell companies that operate casinos.

Yup, there used to be like 4 regulatory bodies in Curacao, then they were dissolved to establish one central body. Supposedly, they're stricter so I've seen multiple casinos from that time which moved to Anjouan Gaming License. Even now you will see many casinos with Anjouan Gaming License.

However, I've not seen the new Curacao regulatory body proactively help players with their complaints lol. Too bad. I do like their setup now compared to before.
