Yes, people will pay for a lot of well-promoted stuff. Not all, but enough to keep promoters rich.

But that doesn't mean elite boxing is dead; it's just sharing the stage with sensational boxing. I think athletic quality and financial gain now run on 2 different tracks; sometimes they converge (often they don't lol). Well, I have been asking myself the same questions for years... who is buying all this shit around? And there is more shit around than ever, and people are buying it more than ever before. I think we can logically assume what the future holds... more shit! As we can see, it's working.

When there's a demand, someone will deliver. It's not important whether it's good or bad, right or wrong, smart or stupid, healthy or toxic... It's all about the profit. Someone there has access to all the data & numbers, doing math behind closed doors, and if something sells, it stays. Aim for maximum profit regardless of the consequences.

There is a lot more focus on how to make boxing "trend" than on the actual talent on show. This has brought conversations about if some fights are pre determined and made just to sell tickets, the more of those disappointing PPV fights we have the more difficult it becomes to sell them.

I doubt most people would easily watch two strangers fight unless they're somewhat popular and well-known in their field, because I also agree with what others have said, as long as there's hype, people will hop onto that.

I recall how it became the trend a few years back, and streamers rode that wave by doing their own type of boxing event. Even when matches are one-sided, people kept gobbling that up.

People have a strange fascination with celebrity culture. Jake Paul might seem like an outlier, but he became a sensation for many of the same reasons as Ryan Garcia, Tank Davis, and Canelo Alvarez.

Even when Canelo was considered a legitimate, elite fighter, I still felt he was being overrated and his success was largely a byproduct of being highly marketable. When you analyze his record, you realize that he built his record by opportunistically fighting great champions once they were past their prime.

Garcia and Davis were popular in social media. They are good at generating hype and that is why they have received more promotion and opportunities from the sanctioning organizations than their talent alone would have entitled them to.

Sadly, this is how the sports industry works with new generation. Fans is supporting a sports based on hype that’s why Jake Paul matches are always sold heavily compared to other professional matches due to his influence in social media.

It's a two way thing. on the part of the investors, it is not about which athlete is actually stronger or which fight is actually interesting in terms of the individual strength of the fighters. rather, it is more about people trends, popularity and a fight that will attract the audience. of cause, no one wants to watch a boring game that vis fought by newbie and inexperienced fighters.

A greater pay and audience only indicates that the fighters are actually great fighters that fans actually fancy watching. the concern is basically on the fact that one might get paid or that the fight might be rigged before it even start which will result to them refusing to actually fight the way they would normally do if it was not a a fixed match. fixing of fights is a bigger problem than the degree of promotion we now see in fight.

As far as I know and from the experience I have seen, there is no definite reason for most people to persist and pay for the promotion of content like boxing if they really know that the boxing being competed cannot satisfy the desires of boxing fans on the battens.

However, I think they are willing to pay for content or boxing promotions based on convenience because they are willing to pay to watch what is promoted in this case there are many factors they are willing to pay for including personal needs and so on.

People pay to watch football matches and in the end the feel disappointed, you can't judge a match before it begins, how they are going to perform will remain unknown until the game is over.

All you have to hope for is a good entertainment, and you don't pay to watch how will you know what you will get? As for boxing, can you box yourself? That shit isn't easy..

If your expectations failed this time it won't the next time, huge flops is present in every sports around the world, sometimes they are more exciting and sometimes they are less exciting.

What we should always look after is the intention for such events, and this strongly depends on the organizers, some may have it that the whole show come with a freeview for everyone and they Don't demand any form of payment to be made, while in other conditions, they do this to be able to make money, since they are also spending to promote, they also have plans to recover back on what has been promoted.

How do you like the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight? It was a hugely popular spectacle, and hundreds of thousands of people discussed it and promoted it on every platform because they were two popular figures. Such fights only bring smiles to boxing fans because you don't need to be a strong expert to understand that it's a one-off fight and everyone is there just for the money, not the sport.

YES- basically, people would watch on what they find interesting on the given match.

Unfortunately, this has caused mixed reactions on the integrity of boxing given that lots of exhibition matches were held last year. Given that these matches were also heavily advertised throughout the year, that also became an important factor on why it brought so much attention and viewership on the general audience.

To put it simply: people would watch anything that they find entertaining. Would we call it a disgrace to the spirit and sport of boxing? YES. However, everything revolves on what the people wants to see and to watch.

It doesn't only happen with sports, we've been seeing it for a few years now with different events like concerts of artists that in another time no one would have gone to see and now fill stadiums at several hundred dollars a ticket, or series and films in streaming platforms that are real garbage but lead the ranking of the most watched because of pure promotion.

There is a problem of lack of critical spirit that in my opinion is getting even worse.

Promoters will not sanction a fight that they think will turn out to be boring; they will relegate it to the co-main event. I have read fights that are supposed to happen but lack appeal on the ticket.

Fights can become somewhat boring because of the styles of both boxers. There is a popular saying in boxing that style makes a fight; one case is the Tyson-Holifield fight, where both fighters love to mix it up.

But die-hard boxing fans will still watch big events; they just want to see if something big will happen. Promoters will try to mix up their events with boxers with good potential, just to get the fight excited at the event.

Promotions are just basic marketing, it’s how they make people aware. If we’re not really following the sport, we wouldn’t even know about it without promotion. And most of the time, promotions are there to hype the fight, so people get interested and are willing to pay.

That’s just the reality in the sport you’re talking about. Anything that requires money to watch is already a business. In the end, what they really care about is the revenue. Once people already paid and tuned in, that’s already a success for them. They don’t really care anymore if the fight turns out boring or not.

In reality, what we see nowadays is that the sport has become much more about marketing than about skill itself.

So what happens is that people want to watch their idol fight, and it doesn't matter if that idol fights well or not; what matters to them is that people have fun watching their idol fight.

And notice that even the price of the ticket to watch the fight doesn't bother the fans. Even if they set very high prices for an exhibition boxing match, many people will still buy the ticket.

Sports is a huge business and that's what they're capitalizing with. For as long as the fight and sport that gets promoted has a lot of fan base.

They'll be able to buy on that. Because what is promoted surely will make it enticing and attractive. They know this business very well.

And the fans are their customers and that's why no matter what the fans feel for as long as it's their favorite athlete or celebrity that will fight, they'll pay to watch it.

Boxing is entertainment and a gambling event that people will still watch whether or not it gets hype from promoters or even boxers, but boxing fans can easily gauge whether the event will be exciting based on the fighters' style, previous performances, and whether titles are involved.

Boxing fans, if they can afford it, will still watch boxing events because they are checking prospects and for the sake of being there, expecting something exciting to happen.

Basically, there are very huge advertising campaigns behind those events you mention, in order to create expectation and hype on public in general, regardless those boxers involved have professional experience on boxing or not.

It is a money making machine, basically. People do not pay for seeing two professional boxers giving the best of themselves. Nowadays, the names of the boxers an the artificial hype created is more important than discipline itself

They don't mind about what people are saying to them. It is the money and profit gain they are after.

In fact, we see social media influencers partnered with pro boxers for a fight. They are creating hype for their personal benefits while destroying the real image of sportsmanship.

Everything seems possible today. Fixed matches, manipulated results, etc., are rampant already. They are not watching because they are excited and supporting the event. But they are there because they were paid to be an audience for an unrealistic fight event.

Unfortunately, perhaps it's not clear to you that everything revolves around money; even sporting events of any kind that can generate profits have shrunk.
I am of a certain age and remember as a child football and champions of other sports such as Judo that I followed passionately.
First as an athlete then as a fan, I followed Toshihiko Koga, a great athlete at world level in his time (watch the videos on Youtube) with his special "the Ippon Seoi Nage technique" a delight for the eyes.
Now following the local Judo too I see that the events they organize are only the result to create profits, not for fun, not to promote the sport and its essence.
