Most people are not big boxing fans in general and will probably believe what the media will serve them. Now it is most likely good marketing that sells the event, we have a boxer in London from Albania origins called Florian Marku who went viral when in the press conference pushed his adversary live and then said, "guys like you in Albania we use them to buy us packs of cigarettes" and this went viral as I said a couple of years ago or a year ago don't remember exactly. So performance nowadays is valued last and it is marketing that makes people go and watch an event.

There has been a shift in interest from generations who enjoy sports. This has also led to changes in market preferences. There are even boxing events that bring together celebrities and figures popular on social media. The main goal, of course, is to create profitable events. With the influence of celebrities' popularity, it certainly attracts viewers' attention. The profits are significant for the organizers, but in terms of the value of the sport, we might not be getting the quality of what we watch.

Whatever you found pleasure on you would do everything to make sure you enjoys and catches your pleasure on it. There are people who finds love on some specific sports they wouldn't care on any amount they are spending to make sure they watch such sports, even though it's promoted without them knowing how worthy such sports could be they would prefer just to pay and have a view on how they are playing it. For instance; I do love sports especially football, if they are playing live I wouldn't mind sparring whatever it would take me to create out time to make sure I find myself watch it without missing the match.

It’s highly subjective based on the fighter involved. There’s some professional boxing match that doesn’t received much viewership because fighters lacks of fan base.

While other mediocre fighter have tons of supporters whenever they fight since they have social media presence like influencers boxers usually have a lot of viewers compared to some pro matches.

People won't provably watch a boring much, but not unless if they know who are the famous fighters or celebrities will face. Since people will not provably watch on how physical their fight, but rather fans will watch out of curiosity especially if there's big controversy happened between on those match up.

That's why we have seen some youtubers and other famous names, agree to have an exhibition fight since they could able to earn lots of money. Then for sure they have great confidence that many people will provably watch their fight.

Promotions really do make people feel a huge loss if they miss it out but I think it's not entirely about advertising because people actually want to buy experiences, especially when it comes to any big sports events, the live excitement and the screaming of the audience, all of which is not available on TV properly so many people remember the whole event even if the result is bad.

Another thing is expectations because promotions always make the match look big but the real beauty of sports is in the uncertainty, sometimes the team they support wins the match and sometimes they lose, but fans still support them because they enjoy the game and all kinds of things also happen in gambling, people don't play all promotions, people play the game that has the most impact on people.

Not everyone pays to watch what ever is promoted, if it's not a real fight, you won't see some people paying for it because they know that it's not that kind of entertainment they want, but there are also many people that are not like them who takes everything for entertainment and they have their personal reasons to why they would pay to watch anything that is being promoted, some people just want to have the experience, that's all.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I feel some of the reasons why people pay to watch those matches that feels mediocre to you is simply because of anticipation or hope that those athletes will deliver more than they expected from them. Trust me if they knew right from the start that those games wouldn’t meet up to their expectations they wouldn’t have even bothered to pay, they’d simply just wait and see if it’s as they had predicted.

What anticipation? The super majority of people who are watching these events do not have adequate information to make any assessment of what is reasonable to expect of these people. Having unbased expectations is just dumb, but I don't think this satisfies as an answer to the question being asked here.

And then again, there are some diehard supporters who don’t care about the state of the game, as long as it has been organized and a date has been slated for it, they are going to pay to watch it, while the rest falls under the category I mentioned above.

With this part I agree more, even though it is probably only a part of the overall picture. Many people bring up the names of these previously popular athletes as if they were at all relevant now and as if they weren't old and boring. People have a hard time dealing with nostalgia, that is why they have unhealthy obsessions over some of these things.

It is a money making machine, basically. People do not pay for seeing two professional boxers giving the best of themselves. Nowadays, the names of the boxers an the artificial hype created is more important than discipline itself

Which is pretty boring and a reflection of the stupidity of people that watch these things and pay for them. What is going to be the next step then? Are we going to hype up battles between boxers to see who will come out with the best pair of shorts?  These events are completely unnecessary. Since the organizers are solely focused on profit and are able to easily manipulate the public to give money for things like this, I believe that it is just another form of reflection of the sorry state of the current society. Many people are addicted to consumption, many of them are very unhappy even those who would refuse to admit it, the economic situation is quite difficult and so forth. They think that they need these events as a form of coping.

There's always like that in any sport, and you feel that you have been shortchanged. This happened when two defense-oriented fighters collide in the ring, there will be less action and more running and taunting, but sports fans will always be sports fans.
You'll still go buy the hype, even though the fight is predictable.

There were fights I watched that were boring, but I still finished them. I'm not paying to watch this kind of fight on ringside or PPV when I can watch it for free at a bar for a bottle of beer.

I had few times I kind of doubts by watching some matches but this is part of the games already...

If people can go to the cinema to see the movies which are obviously scripted like it's all drama, definitely could pay to watch such a game that's not traditionally or originally practiced but to promote the event like it's a show.
I don't know if you ever watched wrestling like the WWE, if yes I guess you've been pissed up over the scripted game but yet you enjoys watching.
That can be applicable when some unpopular fighters meets to fight and so on the game may look just too unserious all just to promote players ahead the long miles to get prepared for a real match.

In this age of social media people just wants to be entertained, I watch some contents on social media that doesn't make any sense to me yet they are getting views and the content creators are getting very rich. We have real fighters and those that are average fighters that are heavily prompted and in the end people want to go and watch and entertain themselves nevertheless. Paying to watch some fights is no different to some as going to the movies or watching entertainment wrestling, they don't mind if it's scripted or the athletes are just average they just want to be entertained.

You're right, the credibility level dropped too much after that For me, boxing matches are great, but it needs to be like it used to be, with real rivalry and everything that comes with the sport. The most important thing should be the most exciting fights, not just fights focused on the technical aspects, because that's how fights get so boring.

I don't really follow boxing, but from what happens in my country, there are so many fights that are deliberately hyped not because of the fighters' great performances, but purely for commercial reasons. So many fights are arranged because of conflicts between influencers or rising fighters, essentially fights that have the potential to bring in more money for the promoter. I'm not saying that all of them are like that - there are still really high-quality fights, but nowadays they don't really attract people, and only people who truly understand the sport still appreciate them. Most people just watch because they want the thrill and drama.

The exhibition was more of a disgrace to the entire boxing industry, boxers like McGregor criticized Jake to be a clown. These guys know how far they got to go, to be where they are, and a YouTuber from the blues comes up to fight a global boxer, it doesn't make any meaning. The art is not there anymore, industries are fighting to stay on track, challenges are way too much in the world market, only high expectations counts, a lot of businesses feel like they're obselete in the market where the elites moved far beyond the average business imagination, so for boxing to grab a fresh new lead they'll have to work with a global YouTuber, to bring about massive attention.

Ever heard of the effect of hype? Well, it shouldn't be new to you because you see how people rush to invest in shitcoins just because of the hype at that moment.  If a fight is well promoted and overhyped,  maybe because of the people involved, people will out of curiosity pay to see how the match goes and who defeats who. It is  not the fault of the spectators if the match didn't go as they had expected it. The errors could be from the organisers, teams involved or poor management. The fact is that they paid for premium entertainment and were all disappointed just like you.
