I do grab your point. To sell what is productive for a gesture of short term rarely makes sense financially. When that was his source of income, such decision likely hurt him even more than the gift helped anyone.

Haven said that,  I would be cautious concerning treating Bitcoin as hope that is untouchable. It is an asset, not an assured future. Sometimes selling a part of an asset for a need that is real or responsibility is rational. Intent and proportion is what really matters.

Though I agree with your key message: long term investment should not be liquidated only to impress somebody or pursue validation. When you believe in your asset, protect it with all discipline. Yet do well to avoid being emotionally attached. Good financial decisions has to be calm, practical, and aligned with priorities that are real.

At this stage in life, I have come to realise that anything that’s not worth spending on would be left to be. What I meant is that, as long as what I’m going to use this money for will not yield me any profit, it is better I let it be and not touch my own source of income (asset) that I would keep for a long time in order to get to reap the fruits of my labour. Anything that’s distracting you from holding on to your bitcoin should be let to be, you shouldn’t associate yourself with weak people but rather smart people that can tell you the right thing to do when you’re about to make mistakes that’ll cost you further in the picture. Bitcoin when hold for long until profit target is achieved will worth much more than 100’s of Val’s gift later.

I celebrated vals day but I used the money that I got from a little contract I got but if the money hadn't come I don't think I would have touched my bitcoin,  that would be very unwise. There is a reason why it's called an investment, you are not supposed to use this for other reasons asides what it's planned for. Bitcoin is meant to be a long term investment that's supposed to secure your future and not something you play with

You're very right. Investment is something a person put in place in order to hope for a rainy day so it will not be wise to sell it off on the platter of temporary things like Val. You must have had fun because you spent your spare or additional income on enjoyment. This is not bad, but once a money is mapped out and tagged for investment, it should be met with discipline and resilience.
Another bitter part of selling your bitcoin this moment is the risk of selling at loss at the end. Anyone who joined bitcoin investment since late 2024 and now decided to sell now for Val would stand high chances of selling at loss. This is why bitcoin should be the last option when it comes to avoidable expenses. Bitcoin pays better when you are able to hold it for a long time instead of using it to spend on something that may still not last.

Why not if you wanted to be smarter in doing this and also applying more creativity by selling at this. Just to have another opportunity of reinvesting back into Bitcoin, and this is how it may work, we may decided to sell now to celebrate the lover's day and targeted when the market dips around $60,000 or below and we buy again and reinvest, the aim of this suggestion is not just only sell but having the mindset of taking the profit after selling and then buying the deep and holding.

In as much as I believe we can sell when we able to spot the dip so as to buy when it is cheaper but it shouldn't be in the name of Val gift to be celebrated for just a day. It looks absurd.

If we are selling what you have kept for a certain long time just to satisfy the craving of someone else because we want to be appreciated in the person's life, it doesn't sound fine, worse is when it is even a girl friend that is just temporal. You can source for money from other means if you must celebrate such day but if you sell your property or btc to celebrate with a girlfriend, believe me the girl will see you as not sensible, the more reason she will leave you faster than you will imagine after she has used you.

So don't sell your property or btc to celebrate Val, it means no sense.

Many people will think this thread is stupid, while deep down, I know there will be people who will make the mistake of selling what's precious to them because of a day activity. Even if it's not Bitcoin, Valentine's Day is a day of love. Share what you can afford, not something too precious to you. Imagine selling your Bitcoin that you have been accumulating for months because of Valentine's Day. I feel that is wrong. There is more Valentine's Day to celebrate. If you have not made enough money to spend lavishly, dont follow the crowd.

I couldn't stop thinking about it after reading your headline, is it even worth it? Valentine's Day will come and go but your life will remain, your future will remain and your status must remain. If you use a single day to misbehave, that could impact you and your future and the irony of it all is that when things get bad, the person you did it for might have left you for another gee.

I am not against Valentine's Day celebration, but everything we do must be with sense. No one should impress anybody beyond normal to buy the gifts that are not reasonable financially. If you have the multiple extra, no problem, but as a person with a future plan, selling your Bitcoin or any asset for that matter for V Day is simply foolishness.

Bitcoin is a financial investment that's probably kept for future purposes, spending it on just a valentine holiday is very useless because there is nothing profitable about it, this is just an expense and I say that unapologetically. I don't mean to sound like a boring person but it's absolutely not worth selling Bitcoin. Think of what you can achieve if you keep holding for years, selling it for just an event is totally unwise.

Literally Bitcoin is our own asset, even this financial investment is held for future purposes so in the current market turmoil, it is not reasonable for me to celebrate Valentine's Day by selling even a small portion of our investment and no one should feel forced to sell Bitcoin for it. OP you are still right that selling BTC for this short-term Valentine's Day joy would be an undesirable move. However, selling Bitcoin at an early stage of investment is not a decision that a smart Nigerian would make and I would discourage selling for such an event. Therefore, it's correct that selling even a fraction of Bitcoin for a momentary feeling is foolish.

Not everyone understands the value of their assets in Bitcoin so if you see them spending it anyhow the best you should do is to educate them because some of them is yet to sit and understand the asset they have all they know is to invest in Bitcoin but they truly lacks the understanding of the value of Bitcoin. Why will a sane person think of selling his or her Bitcoin to celebrate Valentine's day for someone when they can actually buy more Bitcoin for the sake lover knowing that in future the profit will be ok to give them the best gift they can think of, if anyone values his or her future, holding Bitcoin right should be their next target.

See some people need attend class for this bitcoin investment self because I even think selling now self is this even possible for now, well I feel there problems that can rise up to such an extreme of selling your bitcoin honestly speaking brother this was not that plan, the funny part of the matter be say laugh first hold me down when I been see the thread I was like are people alright this days, like one people they really do a lot of thing this days ohhh guys make I no lie give you self, but all good respect for the person who did it smiles.
That’s why people really need to attend class for bitcoin investment for real because when you attend class you go know the essence of preparing for unforeseen circumstances as you dey invest for bitcoin. Normally emergencies go occur in one way or another but na why every investor must get their emergency funds in place. Emergency funds na money wey fit cover at least 3 to 5 months of your living expenses wey you just keep one place specially for emergency, this go enable you to avoid selling your BTC unexpectedly due to emergency, because na only mumu wey go wait first make rain start to fall before him start to pack him properties go inside house…

A very long time ago while growing up, I experienced one financial mistake made by a neighbour and even though I was very young, I spotted it as a financial mistake. Way back in those days, the man had to sell his motorcycle to be able to buy Val's gift for his friend even though he was only a biker he still sold his source of income for Val's sake.

Bitcoin is our own asset and our hope. I see bitcoin as hope for the future and not just as something anybody can sell anytime for a careless reason like this. Do not allow your self to be pressured into selling all or part of your bitcoin for the sake of Val because it is like selling your future for a short term pleasure. That gift can wait, don't spend your future because you want to please anyone or because you want to hear Awwwn.

Lol, title sounds funny though, well it depends sha base on circumstances of selling, you don't know how long someone might have held their Bitcoin and has reached his profit taking time ,so I may decide to cash out some of his profit and not selling merely because of Valentine's gift, But if in a situation an investor has not met his investments goal and then sells Bitcoin because of Valentine's gift then that's wrong and up to you as investor.

The truth of the matter remains that, every body knows what makes them happy....one question we need to ask is how many coins do the said person has?if a person has more coins and decides to sell a little probably to show love 💕 to loved ones l don't think there is anything wrong with that.

So many people saves their money in crypto or coins as the case may be,does it now mean that if you have any need for money you can not sell a little of your coins to settle your needs all in the name of you want your coins to grow?

One of  the reasons for investing in any kind of business is to make profit so as to be able to attend to your needs.
So at that point in time,if selling a little of your coins to enable you show love to  your loved ones will make you feel happy so be it.

But do not sell all.

Who does this, I do not think a serious investor will want to think this, in as much as I know that some persons can do anything for the sake Val, I do not think things should be taken to that extent, Val is just a day, of what importance is it for any investor to deem it necessary to withdraw from his hodlings all in the name of Val stuff, this is not adviceable, we got our decisions and even as the op mentioned this, if we lool around the world, there are people that have done this already, but that is their decision, celebration of love is good, but better planned than seeking alternatives from existing asset that has not matured yet.
You right, a smart thinking  investors won't trade they bitcoin for valentine gifts or to impress a woman. Bitcoin is too valuable to be traded for any love gift. People can go any extend to prove their love for a woman, some folks would easily sell their bitcoin to impress a woman but that's stupidity. Selling an asset that took you years to build to buy a valentine gift is stupidity. Even though People have the right to sell their bitcoin anytime but it should be for something that is better than bitcoin.
