In Nigeria institutions now, the practices has gone beyond imagination as with out money one can not graduate in flying colours all because the lecturers value money over knowledge because they think your knowledge can never put food in there table. Apart from the fact that the lecturers are very wicked in behavior, some blames are to be channeled to the Nigeria government that derives joy in owing civil servants when they know this people have committed themselves to the service of the country and will feed from the wages of there labour which is the salary they receive but after months of services the same salaries won't be paid then expecting them to feed there families with dust which they themselves can not stay without being paid for doing nothing in the country.

In as much as what you are saying is very correct there are some students that still come out with flying colours without having to sort their lecturers for good grades at the same time we have to blame the students who don't take their studies serious and prefer to offer the lecturers money and because the government is not even paying them as at when due they fall victim and begin to collect money from students and gave them good grades in return for the money they have been offered, some female students even go as far as offering lecturers sex and get good grades, so you see the high level of immorality in the institutions.

There are still good lecturers in the system that grades a student according to what he or she has written during exams without collecting sortings as it is called.  The rich buys their grades while the poor suffer to study and most times are victimize by the lecturers too for not giving them money, our institutions now no longer awards certification on merit but on who is capable of paying and buying grades, it's so sad and pathetic, you will see a graduate who can't even defend their grades because they bought it and was not acquired by merit.

They is this wise words which says if you live in rome, behave like a Romans. In Nigeria universities, some lecturers are ready not pass you if you don't sort them. If its a female student, the lecturer will ask her to sleep him but if she refuse to do it, the lecturer will fail her until she's forced to give up. They are still good lecturers with integrity. They are not interested in your money or your body but these lecturers are few in numbers. To succeed in the university and make it out with fly colours without facing ugly challenges isn't easy.

This is a simple answer to your question  mate, higher institutions now are designed in a way that if you are not rich, or you do not have rich people who can see you through school, there is every tendency that you will end up failing in higher institution. This reason is very simple, there is no institution today that does not accept  bribe from their students, and this is the sole reason why students no longer read their books, because they believe they will still make it despite not reading.

So if you are not from a rich background, and you find yourself in school, there is 50 percent chance of you failing already, and if you do not read, or you aren't intelligent, it also adds to your problem in school.

Corruption in Nigeria has reached a level that is not stopping anywhere, how can a country develop where education is the backbone of the nation and education is adulterated. To develop a country, first the people of the country must be educated well, when the common people are educated through good education, their talent will develop, various technological developments will take place, along with this, industries will be established and the unemployment rate will decrease, so that the common people of the country will be able to lead a healthy and normal life. When a country can move forward in terms of technology, the economic condition of the country improves and the standard of living improves and there is development in the education, medical and agricultural sectors, so good education is very important in every country. The government is completely negligent in this matter, due to which Nigeria is going through bad times, if the government had paid lecturers a proper salary or allowance, maybe they would not have been involved in corruption anymore. But people are now very greedy, they sell everything to money, they think that money is everything in life.

Owing civil servants by the federal government is not the reason for the corrupted lecturers because all the universities in the country is not government universities and all the ones the state own pays very well and also making sure that all lecturers are well taking care of so actually i don't no why some of those lecturers would be bent on telling students to pay them money when they have paid there school fees and textbooks, some lecturers complain about the country but they're already spoiling the academic that should have train the leaders of tomorrow, you will read without good rest and sleeping because of how important the education is for you and after exam with all you have written a lecturer will start telling you to pay or you fail.

Yes the question should be directly to the corrupt lecturers that depends on the students after they have been paid in full. To tell you the truth the problem in Nigeria institutions now has gotten to a point where the government needs to look into it as lecturers have made students there money generation machines without even looking at the economic situation of the country. In Nigeria now many finds it difficult providing for themselves at least 2 square meals not because they don't have the power to work but because there is no job for them and still have the desire to train there children in school but because of how expensive schooling is they are faced with no opinion than to quit

The system is not working so what do you expect from a system that is not working?, the government you are calling upon to look into the affairs of the lecturers are the worst set of people and it is said that he who comes to equity must come with clean hands and for a fact those that supposed to supervise them to be in good conduct are the foundation of corruption so they can't do anything to them even when some of the lecturers are known for collecting sortings and sleeping with female students to issue grades.

But looking at it from another perspective the students we have now are no longer serious with learning and most of the lecturers are not to be blamed because these students offer themselves to some of the lecturers for grades, imagine when a student don't write anything in his booklet during exams, how do you expect the students to pass the course when he wasn't serious about reading and has nothing in his head, he or she will result to paying the lecturer to grade him so he can pass the course, so most times it's the students fault not the lecturers.

Each person is the architect of their own soul; African ethnicity have only recently emerged from savagery; each person suffers the consequences of their own ignorance; an uneducated person cannot defend themselves against the system, and the brutish human must be educated; every race has undergone this education.

You are very correct in what you are saying, and some of us have suffered thesame thing, though not all lecturers are corrupt, the good ones will always motivate a student to read before passing their exams, and they will never victimize a student or even collect money from you once you pass their course, while some will tell it to your face to give them money before you pass their  course, otherwise they will give you poor score in other to give you low grade level. If you ask me, I would say this corruption in our institutions are very high more especially in the southern part of the country, the reason is because cost of living and accommodation in the south is very high , so these lecturers want to meet up with their responsibilities, the cost of living, cost of training your children and cost of good accommodation, all these things are challenges, therefore they extort from students in other to meet up their responsibilities.
