So the problem isn't gambling itself, it's the shitty life he's had to live. It's not uncommon for people in these situations to end up addicted to drugs, food, becoming morbidly obese, alcoholics, and things like that. The bad thing is the amount of money he has lost, which is digging the hole even deeper. I don't know what will become of him, but his future looks even bleaker.

By the way, I read the Reddit post, but I don't see much point in the survey.

Looks like it's not just grief, the guy is experiencing depressive thoughts for a very long time so he used gambling as an escape mechanism and it ended up terribly too. Never consider gambling as an alternative to cope up with loneliness or depression, you can find better ones that will also helps you to make money rather than spending it.

As an adult he is responsible for his choices, gambling to escape whatever tragedy he was going through wasn't the best way to deal with it and he knew this. some people put themselves in precarious situations on purpose and act like victims of their circumstance. Gambling when depressed or dealing with grief can lead to gambling dependency or addiction, this is something he is supposed to know.

Good poll, I think I will use that template when I open a topic. I read the link, it was posted 4 days on Reddit, which proves that I read the link before posting.

The guy is so unfortunate, not only because he lost $175k, but also because he did nothing all his life but work, and he never celebrated his birthday or talked to someone since his teenage days, and now he is 30 years old, he missed a lot on those wonder years, much more on the amount he lost on Stake.com.

He has a series of unfortunate events in his life. If he is on my side, I will invite him for a day-long talk and try to advise him, as it seems no one has given him any advice.
I also wonder whether the story is really true or if it's just because this is the first time I've encountered such a story.

It's a sad story. It's a shame the guy has no one left to support him. Everything he held dear is gone. On the other hand, he needs to find the strength to start over. He has no debts, and he's already learned a valuable life lesson. He could find a girlfriend, and he's quite young and already understands a little about life and its rules. This is exactly why gambling is so dangerous, especially for someone dealing with loss and loneliness. He already proved he had the discipline to work hard and save nearly 200k, but it all disappeared in an instant because of gambling.

The saddest part is that he feels like it's too late to start over, even though he's only 30. Stories like this need to be shared more often so people realize that gambling is not an escape. It's a trap that makes everything worse.

I just felt a deep pity for him after reading the whole story, he worked all through his 20s and saved up that money only waste all the money in gambling within an interval of months or days. Friends can mislead us, even at that, if we build a strong self believe on something, we won't be so gullible to everything someone tells us, he said someone mentioned the gambling site to him and if it was not mentioned to him, he might not have lose all his money, but I blame him and also blame the person that mentioned the website to him.

It would have been better if he used something else as means to forget his sorrow instead of using gambling, but he now added to his problem because he is broke and had to start from scratch again. This is not a case of addiction but depression caused it and he also was desperate to get something that would let him ease off his sorrow but he took on the wrong foot.

This is a harsh reality of gamblers getting involved in gambling. First of all, they are in a trauma for some reason and then they enter the game of gambling to get out of the trauma but in most cases it is seen that due to his inexperience, unplanned gambling and other negative reasons, the results of gambling always go against him as a result he keeps losing his hard earned money and by losing he reaches a point where he has no money left. You have just said it all, the guy still have hope. provided his ready and willing to try again. There are times in Life when  man faces difficulties and even fall along the way.  Life can never be fair to someone all throughout the person's stay on this planet earth.
The guy has lost his fortune and I feel for him. but judging from his age, he still have time to set things right. Giving up is the last thing he should  think right now.

Further more, he should not blame himself for acting foolishly. He engaged in gambling activities to escape mental stress, because of the tragedy that happened to him. so I won't blame him too, because some days are like that. It's a shame I can't open the source included to find out more about the story, but reading from some of the replies it's about a young man who was depressed because of loss and loneliness, which led him to gamble, also he didn't lose his life so there's still a chance to improve himself, recovering from depression is the main thing for him, and if he recovers gambling might not be something he'll do anymore, or if he continues to gamble he can do so with limits.

When I felt tempted to risk funds I took a decade to accumulate, that was the potential scenario which came to my mind and which prevented me from going ahead. I asked myself, are you really willing to risk losing in a matter of seconds or few minutes everything you took several years to earn?

Then I definitely retreated and decided quitting gambling for good. In moments where you aren't sure on what to do, you have to do nothing! You have to wait until the ideas and thoughts become clearer on your mind, so you can make a rational decision, instead of acting by impulse.

Now that his man has lost his funds, he has no other alternative besides rebuilding from zero. It's still possible and there are still chances of recovery. He just has to learn with past mistakes in order to not repeat them again.

It is always a difficult thing loosing loved ones, it hurts and makes someone feel really alone. In his case he lost his dad and cousin who were the only family he had left and he replaced his family with gambling on stake where he wasted the fortune he worked so hard for. I would never blame him since I can never relate. I don't judge someone for a pain I have never been through. I drank a lot when my grandmother died just to ease the pain since I was very close to her, I don't know what I would've done if I lost everyone in my nuclear family, so I would not blame him for the decision he made out of loneliness and depression.

He's not dead yet, so he can still pick up his pieces and continue living his life, maybe it is time he socialized a bit more in order to have people talking to and of course continue to cure his addiction, hopefully he can regain himself and face life with more optimism. I said a little prayer for him in my mind as I was typing this, I hope he finds himself again.

Life is sometimes difficult for some; some have an easier life, they are born rich, they don't have to work hard but they have other problems, whether it's health issues or drugs, But for a person who has been treated so badly by life , it's very easy to fall into this kind of situation If there's no example to follow, that's probably the easiest thing to do I think following the right path is difficult but not impossible; the difficult but healthy path is better than the easy one that brings bad things.
