Gambling isn't a means of escaping challenges. Gambling when the mindset isn't at rest can leads to regrets. The guy allowed the situation he found himself to influence his decision. Gambling under emotional control can only leads to regrets because whatever decision that is being taken is based on the state of mind. The guy isn't in right frame of mind, he was supposed to avoid gambling but he didn't and end up complicating things for himself.

After reading his story, it is very sad but somewhat understandable, sometimes people who are always alone like him for years and only focus on work, are indeed quite vulnerable if they get new things, such as gambling for example, as if gambling is made a friend to entertain themselves, and the urge is even greater when there are no more close people who accompany their days. But in essence gambling cannot be blamed completely, after all the person is an adult and in his heart will be a little aware that what he is doing is wrong, but it has been covered by implusive actions. Regret will indeed come late but thinking about it will not make the money come back, in the end it can only be used as a lesson and focus on self-improvement at least he is still 30 years old which means he can still rise. I hope he finds someone who really understands him, because that can be the main driving force for him to recover.

He’s so fixated on what he’s lost that he can see what’s in front of him. IMO, what he really needs is a social life. Go to the gym, find your purpose - something that drives you, and lastly make new friends.

There are other reasons why people go to casinos besides the desire to win. To forget the serious issues they are dealing with, some people go there and try their luck. Your account, OP, suggests that they might have believed that playing at an online casino would help them deal with their problems.

Because they were unaware that gambling at casinos typically merely drains all of your money, they made a decision that only served to exacerbate rather than lessen their issues. If the news was not published, the casino owners probably spoke with the publishers and asked them not to publish it because they felt it would harm their company's reputation.

There are far worse stories that newspapers and the mainstream media published than this one. Based on the character of the guy on that Reddit post, he is an introverted type of guy, so he has a hard time communicating with other people I have seen people like that he is still good until he can't get over the death of his dad and cousin, which to him are the important people for him, and he resorts to gambling which is the biggest mistake because he has no control and used it as escape.
The guy needs psychiatric help as he looked helpless, and he needs to open up to free himself.

There's nothing wrong with being an introvert; what is wrong is not having a set of friends you can open up to and get advice from, even if it's a small circle, or other family members. This is just to have a support system.

Well, I think the problem is with the person, not the gambling site.  All action is the person's decision, gambling platforms are just there.  It does not force the person to gamble, and I do not think that the bad experiences force the person to gamble either.  Worse, I think the person is just making an excuse for why he got hooked on gambling.

It is possible that the sad experience makes him look for something that can make him forget the bad experiences, but most of the time, people who are addicted to gambling make lots of excuses to give them a reason to gamble.  So I think it is the gambler's personal choice why he lost everything.

I think it’s destructive to look at gambling as a business or a way to make money because that’s the mentality that get people hooked on chasing losses. Gambling for leisure is not a deception, it’s the best approach to gambling. Just because money is involved doesn’t mean you should spend all you have, people spend money on PlayStation plus monthly, they subscribe to Netflix, Prime, Amazon e.t.c monthly, so what’s so different about setting aside $40 to gamble in a month?

The mistake that most gambler still keep making is them trying to double or triple their entire life savings with just a single bet, I mean C'mon does that even sound logical or possible to the ears.. Am not against gambling, coz I gamble myself, but then then gambler should always try to apply their common sense before placing any bet, they should avoid any form of recklessness and foolishness when gambling..... They also should accept that they cannot cheat, neither can you outsmart the system... This is why they should only bet what they can afford to lose and in the guys case, it mean using just a fraction of his saving, instead of going all in...

That’s true. I think everyone may have been at their lowest point at some stage in life journey, and therefore having a few close people around is extremely valuable. Support is clearly very much needed when someone loses the most important people in their life, so doesn't engage in wrongdoings like gambling beyond his limits.

One can imagine how heartbreaking that person life must be, after losing their parents and cousin, they also lost their only hope (savings) to live a life like others. I think going to a psychologist is a wise solution, and hopefully afterward they will find a better life.

I just finished reading the Reddit post and all I can say is “damn man”. I know I have seen and heard stories of how gambling addition ruin people’s life but never have I seen it destroy someone this way, from such a huge savings to negative alll because he relied on gambling as a source of comfort.

I also saw some really nice comments being left on the thread, I couldn’t comment there because of my Reddit account and I’d have loved to drop something for the creator but the comments made me realise that there’s still a little hope for humanity.

he was not able to be reckless during his youth so he took it back in his 30s he said everything might be too late but if he is starting now then he can still turn his life back around and even maybe start the life he’s always wanted this time

A lot of stories with bad ending when it comes to gambling, and things like this actually spreads faster than the the story of those whom gambling have actually changed their life for the better...

It's quite an unfortunate experience for the dude but anybody blaming gambling for his predicament isn't seeing the clear picture, he clearly said  he got into gambling as a way to escape from his loneliness which means that he actually got into gambling for the wrong reason, when a person is lonely, the solution isn't to gamble but to go out there and socialize with other people..
Dad, friend, cousin and maybe mum too all dead isn't enough justification to remain lonely and ruin your life when where are still over 7 billion people out there around the world to socialize with, the dude is clearly ruining his own life with his own hands.

Unfortunately this is not a one off occurrence, in fact I know myself Im prone to act badly when upset so I try to remember to walk away or just keep walking till I feel less upset is often the best response of all.
   I think it applies to everyone to some extent but yes trauma and upset will cause losses and bad reactions so its very much not the time to be gambling as a distraction.  First you have to know not to do that and so its not uncommon to read this kind of failure, its very sad.  Partly the person themselves has to know better but you hope for people around them also to help them too.
   Saving for a house might have saved this guy, just plain cash is a liability in many countries due to inflation so I would have advised him to put money into either pension savings or house; both are harder to burn through then cash.

First, it is not all news that's worth being added to the news magazine, and if it is something that is worth being added to the news magazine, but the people or family involved choose not to have the information on magazine, there's nothing the magazine company can do about it, and this could be the situation of what the OP provided.

Second, i feel sorry for the person in the subject because s/he made a wrong decision by seeing gambling as a way to escape trauma when gambling is one of the fast way to get trauma (if dont understand how to do it profitably).

I read his comment about “ constantly searching YouTube for gamblers who have lost all their money on gambling”. That’s an unhealthy habit that’s obviously not helped him in any way. The good news is that he self excluded himself from casino sites. That shows promise that he is taking responsibility for his actions and his future.

How does one tries to escape the trauma of having lost 2 people in a row with the most traumatic options like Gambling? Wasn't that supposed to be a moment of grief to the mourn the departed souls all by himself, or maybe try something else that doesn't demand spending too much cash, since he still needs to arrange a funeral for both, depending on what the situation is? He just lost everything and now, life's is going to be very miserable for him now. IMO, that wasn't a traumatized man, that was a gambler that waited for every opportunity to go broke in the most weird possible ways/moment!

This is the kind of story to which there seems to have no perfect response, especially if you're facing the person going through it. It's simply tragic. And I feel sorry somebody has to go through such kind of ordeal in life.

Be that as it may, Khaled Hosseini's book introduced me to zendagi migzara, life goes on. So, its either you dwell on it and let happiness remain elusive for the rest of your life, or enjoy the remaining moments you have here. There's no point crying over spilled milk. Also, I don't blame him for using gambling to escape the reality of losing his father, his friend and his cousin. Many people in this life is going though a lot of shit and a lot of problems, some turn to alcohol, others turn to substances and gambling, the mistake  comes when we try to escape reality with activities which are not supposed to be used that way and we end up losing our health and money.

Yes, everyone has twists and turns in life, that's life, sometimes many of us realize that when everything no longer exists/has gone back to zero, indeed this journey of life, if we are not careful in managing it, will be a disaster for our family and ourselves.

I read all these stories, he should be aware that everyone has their own background and life story, gambling should not be a place of escape for him, that in every life there is death, This is not felt by just one person, almost everyone feels this way, father died, mother, friend, older brother and so on, it is a trial for humans.

From this story it is good, he deleted all the gambling sites and returned to his original life, working and saving, even though the process was a little long, but he was still able to correct the mistakes he made and return to living without gambling and not being depressed, that is the best point.

It is so heartbreaking to anyone who listens to such situation and the psychological consequences of accumulated grief may call all the strongest mental fortifications down. I realised that the unexpected death of a loved one could send a person to a dark place in order to be able to forget about the painful experience that one goes through. We should know that this massive financial loss is just the tip of the iceberg of internal issues that have not been dealt well at the beginning.

The need to forget about reality with the help of gambling is often disastrous taking the savings, not to mention emotional health, away within the wink of a second. It is necessary to realise that the medical assistance and moral support are really better than the sum of money already lost at the gambling table. May be soon this man is helped by some good people around him to escape out of this vicious circle that has haunted him a lot and form a new future.
