I have been noticing some lies on Punch (one of the largest news in Nigeria) since few years back, with presale sponsorship which you will see on my next topic in few minutes, this topic is about Stake. How can a country that their citizens can not access Stake.us skipped Stake.com but advertising a site that is only available in United States in Nigeria because they have a gambling site that is sponsoring them to do so.

Imo, I don't think this matters much if they did it because I haven't seen it personally or if they continue to do so. If they do, it would be their loss because they would just be wasting their time on a target audience that even if they chose to visit stake US to gamble, they won't be able to do so. My best guess is that they're only do it to boost their SEO rank which I don't know if it would have much impact when they eventually rank number 1 for the "stake" keyword.

If those are paid advertisements from stake to them, this promotion is entirely wrong because they are promoting it in the wrong market, only a few individuals view and read news from Punch Nigeria which is outside the country or are they in any way trying to sell the offer to Nigerians, which will then convince them to use VPN to access the casino through the domain specifically made for US citizens.

As soon as site owners had realized they can replace real content that id written by humans by slop of course they started doing it.
At some point Google was claiming to penalize algorithmically written content but now they've fully embraced slop so I guess we'll be seeing more and more of these paradoxes.

Most of their visitors are from Nigeria; that's correct, but aside from the Nigerian audience, the USA and the UK rank the highest among all the other countries which visit the news site. There message are also getting to the right audience even as most of Nigeria reader have to see it.

I don't know when last I picked up a newspaper to read or when last I visited a newspaper owned website to read news whatsoever, the only news I know about Nigeria are the ones I find on social media like X most especially since thats that the only social media I spend most of my free time on..

The level of ignorance in Nigerian media houses is very alarming and sometimes, I can't help but feel ashamed for my dear country, but thank God for exposure because you and me would have read advertisements like this and absolutely believe it to be true if we weren't on the internet and know almost everything about stake.com and it's sister site, stake.us.
This is one the reasons why it is very bad to simply find information about a service somewhere and believe it immediately without first doing some research about the service.

I just read through the article and the moment I got to Spartans part I instantly knew that it was a paid advert. The so called gold standard of gambling sites <spartan> was created less than a year ago, I checked webarchive and July last year the domain was still up for sale.

It’s a shame that such a platform would accept something like that and share false information about other sites just to make one look better and it got me wondering, if they can do this for a gambling site then imagine what they’d do for those in higher power in the country. I must say this is a big red flag in modern digital media and for a company like Punch newspaper which is among the top newspaper brands in Nigeria, the content seem unverified before publication.
It is of course a lack of editorial oversight because it shows no human editor actually checked the information before it got published.
So it's all about the money for them too I am sure and if it involves some dollars am sure anyone can promote what they wish without a care if it is audience okay or not.
This just shows the rise of unfiltered content in our media space and how those who are ignorant remains so, if they don't open their eyes to the realities of these times.

I guess that's really the case if it's not a paid advertisement by stake management, then Punch is using it to maximize their traffic through writing articles about Stake.

As we can all see, Punch has a lot of banner ads on their homepage, and the Stake.us write-up is a Pull for traffic for those ads. If you're doing a seo for your platform, find keywords that have few write-ups but with a lot of searches and that will pull traffic to your homepage even though it's not relevant to your followers.

This is a very bad action by Punch Newspaper, as it shows their desperation to put money first in their business and not even their reputation.  Like you said, Americans cannot read news on Punch so the marketing is definitely for Nigerians who are not eligible to use Stake US. While I was reading that section of the article, it certainly seemed off. There is a very good chance this was just an article generated thanks to a AI and a prompt.

Anyways, regardless of that... I don't quite understand what is actually going on and where the wrongdoing is. Is this a case of wrong advertising? Because as far as I know Stake.us is only supposed to be accessible for residents of the United States. Nigerians living in Nigeria do not have any business signing up to that branch of Stake.

It's probably the state of most social media not just in Nigeria to be honest. I've seen worst that you will have to question whether this supposedly author of this article obviously didn't investigate anything and just spewing garbage.

I'm not sure though if Stake is going to hit negatively with this kind of information. But then again, as what in the media says, "good or bad publicity is still publicity". So I guess Stake have no concern about it because for them this is marketing.

Looks like they are paid well by whoever or whatever has the good review. Actually, it's so obvious.

Anyway, I think this is just another news site that will do anything if the price is right, and I guess the client did give a good sum of money for them to post it, even if it's half-baked. I am not sure, though, if they will be believed by readers because it sounds too good to be true.
Gamblers are wiser now. They won't just believe a news outlet for making a post like this. They will probably check it all first before they start trusting one. There's always the internet to help with research, and now there's AI to answer it quickly and reliably.
