Another tragedy in my hood has just sparked mixed reactions accross my neighborhood this morning. Their is this guy in my neighborhood though he's not a close friend of mine but he has always being showing his self to be a Bitcoin boss in my area and people have been according him that respect to be someone that's doing well (financially) and it is very obvious so to speak.

This morning the news we are hearing is that he was robbed last night when going out to have fun being valentine's day, at the process maybe he was trying to resist or acting stubborn one of the guy (robbers) stabbed him at his back for them to be able to collect all his valuables that was on him but I guess he was later rush to the hospital.

However, we haven't hear further to know is present state on his health but I just hope he will be fine. I brought this story for most of us carrying our self for people to know that we are an investors of Bitcoin, we should stop it because that is very risky and can attract bad eyes to us , life is just once let not allow a blessing to turn something else.

I do not think his crypto holding will be among what was stolen from him with the way OP explained it, someone that is not willing to give them anything was stabbed and they collected his valuables. I do not think crypto will be part of it but we need the guy to explain what happened. I hope he heals.

Privacy is very important, see what is happening in French. The highest wrench attack occured in France last year, but we have heard about 3 well know cases this year now. But well know people like Binance worker that is well know are the people that the bad people are attacking.

It is not new in our society that everyone is supposed to be careful about what they show to the public. There has been cases of this nature even to the ones that flaunt wealth on social media carelessly. Many people have fallen into one or more problems because of how they carry themselves. You can own the entire world and still remain low-key and heaven will not fall. The CEO of Facebook Mark Zukaberg has always been a good reference point. Even at his level he makes several public appearances in a T-shirt and snickers and always low-key.

He is one of the great billionaires who has no ego or talk carelessly because of his wealth. The famous Hush puppy stirred the investigation that led to his arrest through the way he kept flaunting riches on a daily basis which was why authorities started digging into the root of his wealth. Aside being attacked by hoodlums, one can also be facing several harassment from the security agencies simply because of how they flaunt themselves.

There are several reasons why one needs to maintain a low-key profile because both the good people and bad people capitalise on what they see to haunt you. Peller was taxed 36 million by the Lagos state government when he started flaunting his wealth online and several people have been killed because of the picture they paint of themselves even when in real life, they don't worth the wealth they flaunt.
As a crypto or bitcoin investor, one has to be careful because the society doesn't like you. Even the security agencies will haunt you when they get to know. I am sorry for his attack but I hope he learns after this incidence. Michael saylor has never faunted his wealth even when we all know he is one of the major hodlers of bitcoin, so why will you allow pride to sell you off to your enemies. When I say valuables am talking about his expensive phones, his pocket wallet containing his different ATM cards and some cash, and also he's a lover of expensive jeweleries worth millions so he probably might have being putting on any of it and I doubt if that wouldn't be included.

However, the underlining fact is for we to always hide our financial identity from public eyes especially now that insecurity is the order of the day and also from haters because not everyone is happy with someone progress.

This should serve as a big lesson to many investors, you don't have to let the whole world know what is actually happening in your life. Our society is no longer secure for you to put yourself on top after achieving success, because for people to celebrate you, rather they will envy you. Beside is not everyone at smiles and celebrate your success that is truly happy for you. The world is so deep for you to understand and differentiate between the good people and the bad people. We should be extremely careful who we expose our secrets to, because sometimes your closest friend is your greatest enemy, life is too short for people to understand your struggles and how you get there, just focus on yourself and continue your humble and faithful journey.

That’s a really sad situation and unfortunately it’s not something that's unique to Nigeria, it's a global security threat. Publicly displaying wealth whether crypto, cash or lifestyle can make someone a target anywhere.

This type story has also came up here, where a university student exposed his bitcoin portfolio to his friend, and he ended up being killed and his bitcoin asset was made away.

Every one has an enemy, and some of these enemies you don't know them, and some are also known. It will surprise you to know that the enemies you have in life are those who are around you, like untrusted friends, neighbors and even some family relations, they might be friendly with you when you are not making any progress, but once you begin to make any progress, they will begin to envy you, some will envy you secretly, and some will envy you openly.

If you are making progress in life, avoid showing up, and remain silent and secretive, showing up will expose you to more danger.

There's a valuable lesson to be learnt here, it is important to be very mindful of the things we say in public and what we tell others that we have because we don't really know who might be listening because not everyone has pure intentions. The problem with some people is that when they own a little money, they want to take themselves to a different level of society. They bring more changes than necessary to their daily lives, basically they bring their own dangers. When we keep telling people about our financial situation, our enemies increase instead of our friends.

OP, the incident you mentioned may not have happened because a person had Bitcoin or crypto, but rather he used to regularly show off valuable things in front of people. For example: expensive phones, expensive watches, gold jewelry, etc.

Situations like this one reveal that displaying wealth loudly, whether for the side of Bitcoin or any other thing, is possible to attract the wrong sort of attention. In a lot of places, perceived success may make one a target.

I really agree with your point in regards to this: privacy about  finance is part of individual safety. You do not owe any body proof of your investments or gains. It is wiser to move very silently, refuse flashing assets, and separated your image publicly from you financial reality.

Cases like this are very common in our society where a lot of people choose to act foolish, while confusing it for showing off.
And a lot of these people, who go out telling or letting people know how rich they're, might not even be as rich as they portray themselves. As a security tip to people, if you are getting robbed and your robbers are with a weapon, don't try to struggle with them, they could hurt you and still take your personal belonging.

Stories like this have been told several times in the past here and this one is also not new to use here. The continuous reposting of such news is very important so as not to remain idle that things like this don’t happen to people when they go out to flaunt their assets to the whole world. At least, he may just have ended from physical showcasing of himself and hasn’t become well known online. There are high chances that the robbers did not even have any deep knowledge of bitcoin and how getting hold of the assets matters more than every other valuable they saw with him at that moment else they should have also go for his digital assets too and not just the wrist watch and other physical valuables they took from him.

We’ve also mentioned here before that people should learnt to live a low level life even when they have all it takes to live an extravagant life and this is really because you don’t even know how vulnerable you are some times so you should not start a lifestyle that will draw too much attention to you.

This story is an unfortunate one, something that may not even be because he flaunt his wealth, it may just be people who have been monitoring his movement for a long time. It can happen to anyone as long as you have the basic things not that he was arrogantly displaying his wealth in public. We should just try as much as possible to stay out of troubles.
