Why I keep losing in gambling, even after years of experience

Based on my experience, the main reason why I lose money, whether in sports betting or other games, is simple... I don’t really have a clear plan before I start gambling.

That’s normal because most of us are not professional sports bettors. I guess the best we can do is just try to be responsible, since winning consistently is really hard, especially in the long run. We can agree that sports betting is probably the best option because we can use our own analysis, but that’s still just theory if we haven’t proven that we can actually win.

Personally I open gambling apps or sites, deposit what I want to mess around with, stake on sport bets while waiting to see if I will win after 90 minutes plus I try out other games and stuffs around the casino and all this of having a strategy and target wins are something that is more like a laid pattern which I’m not ready to follow because I don’t see gambling as one special thing that I can do instead I will just have fun and while gambling responsibly, that’s all.

When most people start gambling and they winning, they are just always finding it difficult to stop gambling at that money, they always become greedy because they are always thinking the win is going to continue, but they don't know that there is a point when your winning streak is going to end, so if you are gambling just make sure you stop at the right now. I know it's kind of difficult but you just have to train yourself, if you don't stop at the right time, then time will come when even if you win when gambling, you still going to lose everything back to gambling.

Maybe you have a hard luck, and don't feel is because you don't have a targets profit, or whatever that is why you are not winning, the truth is that luck is not on your side and you should try to see gambling as fun not as money making maybe it will help you win, because I see too much zeal and eagerness for you to win your games.

Winning and losing your profits back into the game, this becomes a constant cycle that you find difficult to get out of and with all the lucky wins you have you won't have anything to show for because you don't utilize your profits. I believe that the reason why you keep losing in gambling is that you gamble for profit and not for fun. Games have house edge, which mathematically gives a guaranteed profit to casino and sports events have bets calculated in a way that risks are minimized for sportsbooks and if we consider math, it's possible for a very high quality team to lose against a significantly weak team. It has happened many times and I even tasted one myself.

I think one of it does really matter, and that's about the maximum loss before you stop. Because having no plan is just fine when you have an amount in your head as your maximum limit when you'll stop.

And when you hit that amount even if that's not the whole amount you've got, then it only means that you'll strictly follow to stop.

So, for me it matters a lot when that's all you have in your mind and ignores the others. That's the best indicator and as a sign of your stoppage.

Exactly man, I don’t see no gambling as a serious thing, me been surprised they do all of that in gambling.. Those strategies and plenty planning isn’t my thing at all..

All I do as well is just deposit money i want to gamble with at that spot just as you said, then if I loss it is fine, if I don’t, it fine as well..

All this things listed are actually part of proper risk management because everything drawn from this is actually your limit that you can control and going beyond that is what leads to losses. You need to seriously map this points out most especially the stop loss point where you stop gambling when you’re either at a certain losing point or at a certain profit. Not be able to define this is usually why many people fall into the wrong side of gambling.

So after this plans have drafted out maybe in the gamblers journal, the one thing that separates a chronic gambler who loses and someone who treats it as a game is the ability to follow up with this plans and this is only possible with someone who has a very good psychology. You might be gambling irresponsibly, or you just don't have that self-control and emotional management that you fail to assess which should be your next step after winning or losing.

But i guess your years of experience must have taught you a lot and also helped you to understand what responsible gambling is all about. First, let's start with the bankroll: what will the bankroll be (always an amount we can afford to lose) + what will be the value of each bet?

Second: how many bets will we make, what will be the minimum odds for each game, what will be the resting time for each bet, and what is the maximum time per month we will spend on the gambling site?

I gave this example in my previous post, but I'll give it again. For example, if the bankroll is $10 per month, then we can set $2.50 each week on a parlay bet with a maximum of 3 teams and minimum odds always at @3.00. Regardless of whether the parlay is successful, the amount and minimum value for each bet in that month remain the same. It would only change in the following month if the bankroll increased from $10 to $20 or $30.

Yiu are losing because of indiscipline and it has nothing to do with your years of experience at this point, all you have to do is to stop chasing losses and try to focus more on gambling responsibly. i think it is important for you to take setting limits for yourself seriously. There are so many biases that gamblers fall victim to, so it's really hard to determine whether plans and strategies would work. It's the illusion that they want you to think that you can win.

You are treating gambling like it is some exam for which you prepare and you shine. It is just the opposite because luck is the only thing that matters here. In gambling the more you try the more you are bound to lose. Not everyone is going to win a jackpot in their lives and hence dont dream of such.

The targets may have been set correctly but the path is crooked. Because the luck that you have will keep on chaging and the losses will end up being more than wins.

TBH, I always have some expectation that I will lose my depo, so it makes things easier. I mean, it's gambling so there's always a good chance we will lose no matter the experience.

I do have some personal rules though, because I don't want to overspend which can be so tempting LOL. For instance, I try to avoid redepositing after rinsing my first deposit—I don't want to chase my loss. My gamba budget depends on how much I can afford to lose and spare for the month. Sometimes, IRL is hectic with bills and whatnot, so I don't gamba at all.
