I’ve been curious about how people first discovered Bitcoin.
Was it through a friend, online articles, social media, or maybe during a market hype period?
For me, it’s interesting to see how different journeys start, especially since many people enter the space for different reasons — technology, investment, privacy, or just curiosity.

I got to know Bitcoin through my college friend. He posted a status on his WhatsApp.
I got to know it in 2015, which means it was during the period entering recovery, preparing for the halving. If I'm not mistaken, then in 2017 there was a halving, and the 2018 period saw a very lively market where it was very easy to make a profit. Very different compared to these periods. The more crypto tokens there are, the more choices there are, but the capitalization is also spread out. My motivation was to add to my pocket money, but in the end, I was indeed trying to increase my amount of Bitcoin through trading.

I know BTC from my bros, every time we hang out when we have the chance, he always tells us about BTC & what he has gotten from it. It could be said that my initial interest was because I saw my bros successfully elevate his finances, but the more I learned about BTC, I realized that BTC is more than just a way to elevate finances, it can be a medium to store value or slightly obscure our financial information.

Ponzi scheme made me know about Bitcoin, there was this Ponzi scheme online in 2015 called MMM, and you have the option to pay with either Fiat or BTC, that was when I asked what the hell is BTC, then I started doing some research only to find out that this innovation is decentralised baked.

With the problems that I was facing in my life at the time and the unresting problems that the government is giving us Bitcoin just felt like the solution to my problem then, that was how I started to do more digging and from then I jumped into cloud mining, faucets and Airdrops, this shaped my life and turned everything around, this was how I got here.

Information about bitcoin reached me for quite some time, mostly through the information background. I'd seen articles and discussions about bitcoin here and there, but I always thought it was too late to invest in it. Now, I consider those memories extremely naive and misguided. Once, many years ago, I almost bought bitcoin and even downloaded and installed electrum, but I never followed through. And the price at the time was very favorable (even taking into account the current BTC-fall). This continued until 2017, when, during the hype, I took a different view of the asset, not only because of the price but also because of the advantages of its technology, something I only became more convinced of in the following years (thanks to information from the internet). It was also by chance, by a twist of fate, that I found myself on this forum at the same time, as my nickname attests.

What prompted me to learn more about bitcoin? Initially, of course, the price. That is, how rapidly this asset rose in price. But subsequently, especially after receiving information on this forum, the speculative element faded into the background.

My first "encounter" with bitcoin was about Wikileaks and block of payment with conventional cards circuit.
I found some news about these coins but I wasn't able to go further because the first miners and instructions were clearly to hard to understand for me.
Or maybe I was just not able to realize what I was seeing (from previous experience with many "private money" hardly failed).

Same here! I got to know Bitcoin because of my college friend. Though at first, I just overheard bitcoin or the crypto and at that time I don't believe in bitcoin not until I saw them how to trade, and give services in exchange for cryptos. Also because of them I learn about NFT's and such that makes me get into crypto since I love creating art.

Heard about it in some TG groups as about the crypto as a whole, then it all started rolling - analysis, questions, and some concrete foundation being laid out

I think it was a miss of Ponzi schemes that advertised about bitcoin on how you can invest and make profit through third party but I didn't give attention to it until I got into this forum and got a real knowledge of what it is. I'm lucky not to have fallen for the third party investment scheme online especially with people you don't know. So the real knowledge of bitcoin is from this platform.

How Did You First Learn About Bitcoin?

The first time I knew Bitcoin, of course I thought negative things and Bitcoin was bullshit, it was all cyber fraud, Bitcoin didn't exist, I kept looking on Google to see if there was a country that sold physical Bitcoin/pieces, I couldn't find it, my doubts increased, this Bitcoin is really a hallucination, plus its creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, is missing and not revealed, That makes me even more confused, are we living on another planet, hearing, seeing but not being able to feel or touch it, that's what I first thought about Bitcoin.

As time goes by and I try to make some transactions, the fact is that Bitcoin is real, meaning I now live in two realms where one side of me is in the digital realm and the other side I live in the clay realm and until now, this means that Bitcoin has united two different realms, digital/crypto and fiat/paper, into one.

I personally got to know Bitcoin trough my friends, they always talked about it and as a result I got interested, but when I was trying to kick start my investment journey, I got to know about this forum which was fortunate for me because I realised that people talk about Bitcoin here and it is based on their personal experiences, so I got more information from this forum and I also got confidence as well, because there is a level of knowledge you will get that will bring confidence to kick-start something, so that is basically how my journey went, no regrets at all.

Straight to the point, it was a mixture of market hype and social media. In my country, there's something we normally call "awoof" which means something you get at a cheaper rate and almost everyone is usually interested in this awoof. I can't remember the exact figure now but Bitcoin rallied positively that year and few people that invested in it that year were calling it awoof money. People were eager to put little money and cash out big in few days as it use to be with Ponzi scheme. It becomes the talk of the day on social media platforms and more people get to know about it. Unfortunately, the market did it usual thing "fluctuation" and majority sold at lose, hence, some people still believe Bitcoin is nothing but a Ponzi scheme too.

Information is power and is of light that shineth to those who value it, Bitcoin is one which through friend information makes me give attention after given some attention through search on social media and others information platform where crypto is display especially YouTube, where beginner level and knowledge of Bitcoin is advertise by social media influencer. But joining the forum broaden my knowledge and make me understand that Bitcoin is not quick to get rich but is capable of changing ones financial life through patient and consistent accumulating and holding for long time, as some information on social makes it more faster than what it's.

The question is not difficult only if you can remember how and when you heard about bitcoin. Back in school days, you might have misunderstood what they were saying about it, or the person might have been sharing right and wrong knowledge at the same time, because bitcoin traction is recorded on the blockchain. Only you and the person who did the transaction might be able to know which wallet belongs to which person tied to an individual identity unless there is a direct link to the person's identity, and nowadays, owning and trading bitcoin is no longer tax-free, especially in most countries where value-added tax has been reformed.

Back in the old days, I was just trying to find a way to gamble without KYC, and then Bitcointalk was there. That’s where everything started for me.

I didn’t even know about dice games before, then I tried them and realized they were fun, so I got hooked for a while. But honestly, sports betting was always my main intention. Because of that, I ended up spending a lot of Bitcoin on gambling. I even remember one time I bet almost half a BTC on a single game. Back then it felt cheap, compared to today.

Sometimes I think about it now and regret it, like I should’ve just held instead of gambling so much.
But convince myself anyway that’s part of the journey.

I first learned about bitcoin from a guy who, at the time, seemed strange to me. He looked like a teenager who had spent too much time playing computer games, so I didn’t take him seriously, unfortunately. His appearance convinced me that someone who seemed that immature was unlikely to give any worthwhile advice.I have no idea where he is now. I hope he’s somewhere in a nice house in a warm place, drinking cocktails.
