Advantages and disadvantages of publicly announcing to run for a political post

I would like to know about your say on the Advantages and disadvantages of making an early public announcement to run for a political post. This is what have been in my mind thinking for sometime now how individuals switches candidate ship from someone who have been doing so much for his/her people to someone who just burst out of nowhere to contest for the same position as the person they have known for a long time. I am talking with experience on how the general public in my vicinity chose to switch there support on someone who have been helpful to the society to someone who just came out to announce his intention to contest for the same post as the other person, is this happening all because of greed and love for money or is it my thought or am I over thinking things. For now I only have idea on the disadvantage aspect and will love to hear other opinions and thought on the matter

The advantage is that they'll know their political rivals if that politician who announced their running earlier. But that will be a disadvantage for their opponents if that person is quite strong and the one to beat. Normally, there are no permanent friends in the politics and if that person that announces it too early that they'll run, those who want to survive politically will either join them or go away from them. That's how it goes for the politicians and for the citizens, they know who to vote and if that person will actually do the things a public servant does.

That is usually caused by political godfatherism and such system of politics jeopardizes the people (masses) mandates.
In such cases whoever emerges the winner is always out of manipulations (rigging) being appointed by some executives while masses votes are void in the election pools.

This Is though not strange because it has become an adoption that even a serving leader once leaving office would want to install someone else he can control.

The disadvantage is always that... The people will get unqualified representative who does not have the capacity to lead.
The leader in such appointed cases will always limited to exercise his power while reserves space for their political godfathers.
