Selective inline quoting feature

I would like to suggest a usability improvement regarding how quoting works.
On another SMF-based technical forum i use, when you highlight a specific portion of a post, a small popup appears allowing you to quote only that selected part or reply to it directly. This removes the need to quote the entire post and manually delete unwanted sections.

Here in Bitcointalk, long discussions or posts with multiple arguments, the current method can be time consuming and often lead to excessive nested quoting.
A selective inline-quote feature could improve formatting, encourage more precise replies, and make discussions easier to follow.

Since Bitcointalk runs on SMF, i am curious if such functionality could be implemented through a modification or client-side solution without affecting performance.

I would appreciate insight from those more familiar with the forum’s technical structure.

This, i've been using this script, but i can only use it few times since i'm more in my mobile phone browsing and doing stuff in the forum. As for the suggestions of OP, without PowerGlove doing from behind the scene, other good forum features that was suggested cannot be implemented anymore this time if only theymos will work on it.

Kudos to @TypoTonic for proposing this and @TryNinja for the script, but if I read the OP correctly, what he is suggesting is what will defeat the current Speed and Time of making the quote available for reply. But this one can't defeat the two. The OP's idea is something that will be highlighted directly from the post and a "quote" will pop up, just like your regular copy/paste pops up. Then by clicking it (the quote), it automatically paste itself in a way ready to be posted under without any extra work.

How it works:
On the tech forum, the quoting system works in two slightly different ways depending on what you choose after highlighting text.
When you highlight a portion of a post, a small popup appears similar to the browser’s copy/paste prompt showing two options: “Quote” or “Reply.” Just as i explained above.

If you click “Quote”, the selected text is added to a separate quote collection page. All the excerpts you’ve selected are stored there in sequence. When composing your message, you can then click an “Insert Quotes” button in the message editor. This opens the collected excerpts, and you can insert any specific one into your post with a single click.

If you click “Reply” the highlighted section is immediately inserted into the message field as a formatted quote, ready for you to respond to directly. No full-post quoting or manual editing is required.

First I copied the necessary part that I really want to quote, then clicked on 'quote' and deleted everything except the first quote line. Then simply paste the copied content and end the quote. So I don't think it's hard for us to quote a part of the post.

I am not against your suggestion, but the current system also seems easy for me since we are already familiar with it. If the quote is a problem, then we have solutions as well. So this isn't a very important suggestion. I am not sure if admin wants to implement that or if any other users are also interested in your suggestion. But I am not interested at all.

It is not a big deal for big screen users along with the drag of the mouse but while using the mobile it will be a pain in the ass so I will just edit out the entire post and use '~' tag to make it aesthetic for others while reading but I try to avoid posting from mobile 99% of the time.

You are right but I don't think OP is talking about difficulty in quoting a section of a post, rather he is more concerned about the speed and time it takes to perform all these steps you have  briefed above. If you read and understand the post of EarnOnVictor you should get a clearer picture of the OP's intention. I believe this is very useful.

I believe he didn't understand the suggestion, if he did, he wouldn't disregard it.

I remember working with SJ on other forum posts, and one of them had this cool feature.
I support the suggestion that this feature not only be built into a userscript extension, but also be an embedded forum feature that could be implemented in the mobile version. Well, you know how difficult it is to extract sentence fragments in the very limited space of forum text editor (mobile version). I sometimes have trouble copying signature code.

when quoting someone else, especially when quoting a chain of quotes or a sufficiently long message, it would be really nice to have such a feature. i really like the idea. i know that not everything gets updated on the forum and that changes that are truly necessary enough to fall into the “need” category take a long time to implement, but i'm sure such a change would make a huge difference in terms of ease of posting. i'm curious about @JayJuanGee's opinion on this. he'd probably benefit the most from such a feature 

in short, if a member's opinion matters, i think it would be a pretty great change. it would be nice not to encounter a wall of text after clicking on the “insert quote” button.

Is quoting that very hard for people?
I don't think is something to worry over as op can easily look how others did their to follow up when he wants to quote any post.
It's not something hard that is too difficult for someone to know.

I am active on a few other SMF based forums and I haven't seen something like that before, but it actually looks quite good and convenient and would be a good addition to bitcointalk.

Is quoting that very hard for people?

It is not very practical to do on a mobile phone when you want to reply on just parts of someone else's post, or if you want to avoid pyramid quoting.
