In short, lumpenproletariat produce nothing in the society but continues to receive whether from the government or from family members. These are basically the unemployed who aren’t concerned with their economic advancement. Do you know anyone who can be considered a lumpenproletariat?
People in this class seem to be content with only having the bare minimum. They receive resources from the government but don’t make any move to progress their standing on the economic hierarchy. They can be harmful to the progress of economy because
(1) They drain the resources without any counter productive activities that benefit the economy. (2) They perpetuate illegal practices even more harming the citizens and as well as the reputation of the region. If this is true, we should be keenly aware of the unreliability of the lumpenproletariat, but we must reject Engels1 condemnation of them as completely worthless and merely dangerous.But they mostly talk about the youthful lumpenproletariat saying they are still malleable and could engage in potentiality. Are the lumpenproletariat (homeless, chronic unemployed, and the criminals) the problem of society? or are they simply a victim of a system that only favors the capitalists?
