It's no secret to sports athlete who have been getting a lot of money. They surround themselves with bad influence and so called friends who just wanted to take advantage of their riches. If only Floyd knows how to manage and even not gamble, he could live with generational wealth. Now there are reports that he is broke that's why he is coming out to fight again.

Hmmm.. interesting. And this is true as well.

Last month, Celebrity Net Worth claimed that Mayweather's net worth is around £74million ($100m). Now compare this to his career earnings, that amount to almost £888m ($1.2billion). What this means is that Mayweather wasted more than a billion dollars after he retired. Now he is left with less than 8% of his career earnings. Just one fight (against Pacquiao in 2015) generated total revenues of close to £444m ($600m). The fight against Conor McGregor also generated similar amounts. But these are useless, if he doesn't know how to invest the money.

Yes, during the height of his career, "Money" Mayweather is a prime example on how to make huge amount of money in just one fight and endorsement. But it's very hard to maintain the lifestyle once he retired because money is not coming as it's used to be.

It could also be same with Conor though, from what I understand he has invested on wine or something but it's not what as they're expecting. It was said that it's not generating passive income for Conor. But regardless, if anyone doesn't know how to take care of their retirement money, sooner or later it will dry up.

Well he's so hype and Mayweather's record also influence make him able to earn lots of money, but its unfortunate for him because his lavish lifestyle eat lots of his wealth. Now that he's now on tip or almost end of his career his struggling to earn those money he used to gain before. Maybe this is the reason why he agree to fight Pacquaio because he just want to take advantage on the money he can gain no matter what happens.

Maybe they need to hire good financial managers to handle their wealth and they also get valuable advices to help them with their future investments.

Maybe he spends money easily because he knows he can always earn it back again. With a fight against Manny Pacquiao, it could easily bring him tens of millions. I’m just guessing on the numbers, but fans have always wanted a rematch and now it might finally happen.

After that who knows, maybe another big fight with someone like Canelo. Imagine if he keeps fighting big names like that, he could still make a huge amount of money as long as he has the skills to protect himself in the ring. People often say they’re bored watching Floyd Mayweather Jr., but the moment he fights everyone still tunes in.

Last time these two had a fight was back in 2015, and then the fight generated revenues of $600 million. Both Pacquiao and Mayweather are expecting similar numbers this time as well. But I am a bit more sceptical. First of all, this is an exhibition match (unlike the case in 2015). And secondly, during the past few years (especially after the COVID pandemic), PPV revenues for boxing matches have got reduced. Experts claim that the rematch can fetch as much as $500 million in revenue, with both the athletes sharing around $300 million between them at 50-50 ratio.

I would say that Manny did better overall as "who had a better career" questions, just defeating punks by dodging shots and jabbing small and non-hurting jabs to them just to get wins by point is not the type of boxer anyone would say is the best.

However, I would still prefer Mayweather because that guy made a lot more money and if I could have any career I want then I would want his career so I could make a lot more money. Mayweather actually built his own organization and marketing company so he could promote fights both his and not his so that he could make a lot of money. This allowed him to take bigger cut of the matches because he took out the middle man, but he also ended up getting cut from other matches as well using his company to promote other boxers.

Ryan's comment though is more of a pure boxer side, so I will agree with him and other boxing analyst also sided with Manny because of how he goes up in weight class and beating the bigger man, like in Antonio Margarito, Cotto and Hatton.

Not saying that you are wrong, but it seems that you are in the business side of it and not for the legacy. Although you said that he had a lot of money, he did set the precedence by working on his own and becoming his own manager. However, reports are saying that he is broke that's why he wanted to have a fight against Manny. So in the end, even if had done a lot and make tons of money, still not enough for him.

Mayweather is American (born in Grand Rapids, Michigan). And that is also one of the reasons why he became one of the richest boxers ever. The United States contributes to lion's share of revenues, both in terms of PPVs and ticket sales. Pacquiao has his fair share of fans in the United States, but Mayweather has a more dedicated fanbase since he is American as well. The only non-American boxer who was able to dominate the PPVs against American boxers (AFAIK) is Canelo Alvarez. Even in his case, the PPVs mostly came from American citizens of Mexican origin.

There is absolutely no doubt that he has wasted his money, no idea what he did with all of that money because he should be rich by now and have something over half a billion dollars but at the end of the day he didn't invested properly and that resulted with him being not as rich as he should be. I am guessing whatever happened to many of the rich athletes happened to him as well.

He thought money would keep pouring in, and gave hand outs to people around him who wanted money and he also spent it on useless stuff like cars and jewellery and whatever parties he throws, wasting it all night after night. It ends with people like him end up having to go fight this type of matches at this age because lets face it he has to, for money, since he has none left that would be enough for him.

And as per Ryan Garcia with regards as who has the better career.

Quote
“I feel like Manny has got the best career. Out of Floyd and that generation that they grew up on, I feel like I would rather have Pacquiao’s career.”

https://boxingnewsonline.net/news/garcia-on-better-mayweather-or-pacquiao/

Yes, I would have to agree with Garcia here, Floyd might have a perfect 50-0, but there are boxers like Rocky Marciano who retire undefeated at Heavyweight and yet many consider Ali as the greatest of that division. And there are a list of boxers who are undefeated, but no one can get close to the record that Manny set, - 8 division world champ. And if he didn't skip weight classes, it could have been more.
No doubt. Floyd did it for money while Manny did it for passion. It's the main difference here. So, ryan was totally right about Manny has a better career than Floyd caused by he's doing it for his passion. Money was not the main reason why he's tried so hard during his prime era. It's totally different with Floyd that puts money above everything.

Ryan is basically a boxer that is following his passion. He's doing it not because it can earn huge from boxing. So he's preferring many's career who is gonna be remember by people forever. It's a such a pride to hold a record that has never been broken by anyone.
It's also gonna be remember forever if Manny was one of greatest boxer has ever exist. So many reason to explain why he's preferring manny's career instead of floyd.

We can say, this fight would fetch good amount of money even if we say, this will be on exhibition match only. Both fighters have their own wealth owed to boxing. But I don't think Floyd is already broke because he was the one who was more vocal about his riches. Whereas, Manny is still the same when it comes to his approach with his social media. He doesn't flaunt but we all know that he is still doing good with several businesses that are still operating.
But the amount may not be the same as compared to their first match. They are not in their prime days anymore, so what the audience would want to see is how they are handling their retirement days and see how they can still perform inside the arena. Of course, the protocols may be different from the professional bout, so let's see what trash talk we can hear from Mayweather this time.

The thing with Ryan is that he doesn't have the mindset of Manny. We heard before that he is lazy and doesn't want to train hard and he has mental health as well. Maybe Ryan has the passion, but not the same as Manny does. Perhaps it was also due to the upbringing of Pacquiao that's why he really took boxing seriously and made it his passion to be great, not just good so that he can bring recognition to the Philippines and also making his lives better because he is being paid handsomely during his prime. Floyd on the other hand, live a lifestyle that of a typical sports athlete. Lavishly but then hard to maintain as suddenly the money has dried out that's why he is broke and needed a fight.

I don't think this fight would have done well as a pay per view.  I don't even think it will do well on Netflix for free.  Surely if there was a PPV market to see these guys fight, they would have gone that route instead of taking a check from Netflix which pretty much puts them in the influencer fight category...

I'm tired of Floyd as a boxer and as a person.  Neither one is entertaining and I wish every moment of my life spent watching Mayweather was spent doing ANYTHING else.

I'm tired of Floyd as a boxer and as a person.  Neither one is entertaining and I wish every moment of my life spent watching Mayweather was spent doing ANYTHING else.
But now that the patent is owned by Netflix, it makes the situation even more complicated if you try to try PPVs, especially since who wants to try to pay for PPVs except those who are bored of entertainment matches.
The chance of success in a match like this might happen when there is drama before the match starts and they will do their best to leverage this as exposure for them to make a profit.  This is not much different from what happened to Mike Tyson when he fought Jake Paul some time ago.

If it wasn't like that who would pay to watch an old man like them fight even though we know they will always be considered legends.

Yes, you may be right about what you're saying, dude, but despite his luxurious life now, from what I know, it seems like he's also eating his wealth from his creditors, because I found out that one of his creditors who owed him 50 million dollars has already charged him.

And besides that, he has other creditors who are rich people, so it's not surprising that even though he and Paquiao are both old, he suddenly agreed to fight again because they will be paid a lot of money. It's also true what others said: that the reason is really just money, and they don't even care if they are old.

There are still people willing to watch them fight because they are both legends. They may be old, but not too old. In fact Manny even returned for a championship fight, though he failed against Barrios. Whatever platform they use to televise this fight live, I’m sure they’ve already explored every possibility to make sure they can generate a huge amount of money. Maybe not as big as the first time they met, but still huge considering how popular they both are.

I’m okay with Netflix if that’s the platform since that seems to be the trend now. But regardless, they know what they’re doing.
They hype the crowd and here we are again. My only real concern is whether the fight will actually be entertaining or if it will end up like the previous one, just boring.

They hype the crowd and here we are again. My only real concern is whether the fight will actually be entertaining or if it will end up like the previous one, just boring.
Pacquiao wants to take revenge and so that won't be any boring at all. But as for Floyd, he might just do the same strategy and will kill time after hitting good.

So I hope that it won't be as boring as the first fight and it still depends on the strategies while they're inside the ring.

Both has many fans and we all want to win the boxer that we're counting for. Netflix will definitely rake a lot of money from this fight.

I saw this in YouTube comment section while watching and reading comments at same time. Someone said that in every second fight rematch of Manny Pacquiao, he always won. Not counting third or fourth rematches, like against Juan Manuel Marquez where Pacquiao lost in their fourth fight.
I’m not sure if this is actually true, but if it is, hopefully same thing happens if he ever fights Floyd Mayweather Jr. again.
Do you think pattern will continue? lol

The revenge motive behind Pacquiao will become a massive burden and this fight will be much livelier and enjoyable. We are supposed to find Floyd more lenient in his conversation then merely to justify and temporise as in his initial encounter with us. With the existence of such a giant platform as Netflix, the content of this spectacle is sure to be packaged in an opulent way and enrich the existing global sports entertainment market. Strategic maturity of every segment of the ring will decide who is going to appear as the real winner to the eyes of his faithful fans.

Last month, Celebrity Net Worth claimed that Mayweather's net worth is around £74million ($100m).

It could also just be inaccurate, for tax reasons he passed that wealth to family or some other reasons.  I presume they include his house, all he has to do to invest the money is own a large estate usually including farming and manage that yield in a basic way.
The last option is he gave it all away to charity, for tax reasons that can be profitable to do.  Also I'm thinking of a trust, you don't own such a trust but may benefit from it in a tax free way till death.  Again rich people accountant stuff, who knows whats up.  Of course just losing it would seem the simple, most probable option.
