hotel is defined as an establishment providing accommodations, meals, and other services for travelers and tourists. (from oxford languages)

but the cost of building a hotel is too extreme. first you need to be buying land if you have not any yet. it is up to you how big you want the land to be but expect this will be quite costly especially if you will be building a hotel somewhere tourists are known to go to. the building or construction will be costly in terms of money and time. you would have to ensure quality and safety having to hire engineers and architects and interior designers as well. the furniture and the equipment needed to start operations should be of high quality with reliability. not to mention your staff that you would have to pay.

it seems like a good business venture but it seems a little too much especially if you are still starting out... what could be an alternative? the answer is AIRBNB. it has become a trend now wherein people rent airbnbs instead of checking in hotels. if you have a spare condo room, or an apartment unit, you can use these as an airbnb. you just have to spend on beautifying the place and maintaining it but the rest (food and services) will be of the guests'. it seems like a less intimidating, trendier, and profitable business venture than hotels.

You don't really need to build a hotel to own one. Some businesspeople lease property for a long time and use it for hotels. This would reduce the cost of setting up one. Hotels also give a stable and steady income because it is on high demand than airbnbs.

Those who don't have enough capital to run a hotel, could establish an Airbnb setup. But those who have the financial strength could still set up hotels in good locations. People still consider hotels because they are safe and offer essential services that customers need.

Regardless of whether you think it is expensive or not is irrelevant. There are new hotels being built every single year though financing and based on solid business plans which project a return. The average person is obviously never going to be able to get such financing because that would just be irresponsible lending. Airbnbs started off as just renting a room in your home and that is often still the case, but some people have tried to upscale by building a property empire which they rent out short term - that is a bit of a leach in society because it will annoy the locals who cannot afford to buy those properties any more. It is definitely driven by supply and demand, but I still find it at least half the price of hotels in major holiday destinations, which is a major cost saving.

Hotel is also a profitable business. One thing you should know is that hotels are in different classes and you will build accordingly to your financial capability. You must not build a 5 star hotel to own a hotel. And for hotel owners they run different business there and that's how they make more money. The accomodation is another business, while the food and drinks are also another business which gives more revenue to hotel owners. Anyone who has the opportunity of owning a hotel should invest invest in it.

The cost structure that you describe is all designed. Hotels as institutions were created to consolidate hospitality into something legible, taxable, regulatable. The cost of the land, cost of the engineers, cost of the staff payroll, those things are also accountability infrastructure. There's a reason why you can sue a hotel.

Airbnb dismantled that. And it did it brilliantly, like from pure systems design perspective it's fascinating.

The externalized costs is real. The "less intimidating" part of airbnb is partly because a massive amount of the structural burden (safety, consistency, labor rights) just quietly disappeared from the equation. Guests absorbed some of it. Neighborhoods absorbed much of it, actually. Entire residential blocks in Lisbon and Barcelona were essentially transformed into unofficial hotel districts. And the people who lived there were they tourists folks who weren't tourists, who weren't hosts, just got knocked out. Slowly, then all at once.

None of this is an argument against airbnb as an individual business decision. If you've got a condo unit sitting there absolutely use it. The individual logic is sound. It's the aggregate effect, the what-happens-when-everyone-does-this, that gets complicated in ways the original post doesn't quite get to.

And maybe that's OK to start a conversation. But worth sitting with.

Both are good business.

And definitely, it's always the location that's the key to these businesses. Hotels are also posting their vacancies on airbnb whilst those businesses that are in airbnb, they can't be like the hotels.

So, IMO, the hotels are dominating both worlds but for the consumers, we're all the winners here. Because we're having more options and more competitive prices.

But in the part of the business owners, airbnb has helped them to leverage their rooms or apartments to get rented.

‎Yes, hotel is very costly compared to Air BNB but is more profitable. Lets say I am on vacation, I would rather prefer to book a hotel than Air BNB, because I feel it's safer and you get constant services. Air Bnb  is preferable as a small scale business, especially someone who wants to be making extra cash.  Even if you want to build an hotel you don't need to make big, even small size operational hotel can still generate massive income than that of an Air Bnb ( because you might not even see customers for months) especially if it's built near places like clubs, liquor store etc

It is no lies that AirBnb are quickly taking over the hospitality space. It is becoming a preference among many people because of the affordability compared the space you have. In an Airbnb, you have the feeling more of a home away from home than in a hotel. With an AirBnb, you could welcome up to 25-30 visitors as accepted in the apartment and still be very comfortable, that cannot happen in a hotel. An AirBnb is also a much better choice for a family that is on the vacation.

I don’t know why you think an AirBnB is any less expensive but, I would tell you for free that they are almost of the same and why a hotel might be limited to just rooms and depending on either you offer Deluxe or what have you, you are still stocked with a room except a very exquisite hotel but, an AirBnB, you would have all that is fitting for a home, a kitchen, a dinning, a seating room, all furnished to standard and the kitchen would even come with food items. You have a power set in place and a management to oversee its running. They are very much the same you see.

Both hotels and Airbnb have their advantages and disadvantages, and each person may have different opinions on their choice, some prefer staying in hotels, while others choose Airbnb to save money or for other reasons.

for me, I prefer staying in hotels over Airbnb because I don't travel often, so I always strive for the best experience and service, even if it means spending more money. since with Airbnb, you're simply renting a place, you don't get the same level of service as a hotel.

The higher the entry barrier, the smaller the competition and market segmentation, the smaller the entry barrier, the greater the competition. When I plan to start a business especially complexity business, my first priority measurement will be scalability and sustainability not which one cheaper between some option. From my observation both airbnbnb and hotel do adaptation due to market shift. Many hotel chain also manage extended stay and apartement style hotel, hotel move to more felexible and homy ambience. In other hand airbnb precisely move to be more profesional and reliable with service such as focusing on long term stay and i think they intensively strengthening its positioning on this segmentation. Many also do lifestyle segmentation fosusing on emotion and experiences and some also targeting high end market with luxe services. As users we can compare hotel and airbnb services based on its official rating by our eyes and experiences. I think location become the main benchmark for user choice, in uptown in business zone, hotel especially extended stay highly chosen, on other area such as tourist destination area and remote are, air bnb be a winner on market dominance because they offer flexible supply and local experiences

Airbnb are more frequent than hotels this days but only in a very high cities but however, in some countries or areas hotels are still the best business to go into as they are frequently used and it gives more money, knowing that hotels pay more as the food and other stuffs are in the hotel environment which will make the guest spend more that will be very much appreciative investment but for Airbnb it's more or less used for occupants who have food and other stuff settled themselves. Airbnb are not too emergency but hotels serve emergency so it's more profitable in hotel and Airbnb.

Renovation also takes some money for you to make it appealing to the customers upon checking your listings in the airbnb. I prefer also checking in with the airbnb and looking at how profitable the business is, I think that having some extra rooms in a nice and prime locations. It's going to give you that profit that you're wanting to have more and so, the continuation of having more is in your mind. But you'll have to be hands on if you plan to get into airbnb business. They both have different market and offer different amenities and experiences.

I think both are a good business opportunity. However each model has his advantages and disadvantages. Airbnb model is to make profit only from renting houses and rooms which makes it less popular among people looking for full service. While hotels are generating profits from a bunch of offered services which makes it less popular among people with limited budget. The reason why airnbn becomes popular worldwide that could even compete with hotels is because it targeted middle to low class clients.

Both hotels and Airbnb have their advantages and disadvantages, and each person may have different opinions on their choice, some prefer staying in hotels, while others choose Airbnb to save money or for other reasons.

for me, I prefer staying in hotels over Airbnb because I don't travel often, so I always strive for the best experience and service, even if it means spending more money. since with Airbnb, you're simply renting a place, you don't get the same level of service as a hotel.
Both have advantages and disadvantages. Hotels are more service-oriented, and you serve more people, which means a busier pace, but I'm sure the profit is higher. However, some hotels operate seasonally. With Airbnb, there's less of a seasonality even if the profit is lower, you earn income without spending too much time. it seems like a good business venture but it seems a little too much especially if you are still starting out... what could be an alternative? the answer is AIRBNB. it has become a trend now wherein people rent airbnbs instead of checking in hotels. if you have a spare condo room, or an apartment unit, you can use these as an airbnb. you just have to spend on beautifying the place and maintaining it but the rest (food and services) will be of the guests'. it seems like a less intimidating, trendier, and profitable business venture than hotels.
Surely this AIRBNB you claim to be the alternative to hotel, do you really think everyone will fancy it? Well in as much as it appears to be an alternative to hotel and also cheap, it doesn't guarantee safety of the person unlike it is in hotels. In hotel they make sure they make provision of adequate security and welfare and customers satisfaction. There is also fun in hotel than such places. I believe with the fun in hotel, people will hardly patronize you. You can only succeed in such business if there are no hotel in that neighborhood and it happens that your AIRBNB is the only option. But provided it is not the. Count that business a dead one, or maybe you can only be patronize by people who may have run out of cash to afford the expensive one.

First of all, you don't need to build your own hotel to have one. There are many companies out there that has many hotels being rented out, and if you see one that's still constructing, you can just buy one of their rooms on the hotel, and rent it to other people. You don't necessarily need to build your OWN hotel because that would really be expensive. If you don't have enough money to build your own then do like what I said. As for the staff, I'm not sure with how it works, but it's either the owner of the building will just pay them, but they'll be getting a portion of what you're earning, or you yourself as the owner of the room will provide one.

If we're talking about real estate, there really is a need for a huge capital and that's inevitable. This is the reason why there are some average investors that really want to be into real estate that chooses to just invest into REITS just for them to be a shareholder of the company and at the same time, they'll be earning quarterly dividends based on how much revenue the company earns with their rental properties. AIRBNB as the alternative? Well, yes, but that only applies if you already have a spare room whether it's an apartment, a transient, a hotel room or whatever, but if you're just starting with 0 or low capital, and has no spare rooms then that's still almost impossible.

AIRBNB like what they said have pros and cons as always. Well, it's still at the top of the list when it comes to accommodation of any rooms, and despite of the negative comments around it, we can't deny that they're still providing good services to some people.

I don't think it's really a fair comparison. Having millions isn't the same with having only a spare condo room or apartment unit. They're somehow mutually exclusive, aren't they? If you only have a spare room, would you be contemplating on building a hotel? On the other hand, if you have millions, would you be buying condo rooms instead of constructing a building?

Anyway, it's interesting how hotels are listing their rooms on Airbnb. The original or earlier focus which was homestay is now slowly fading. Airbnb has since turned into just a booking platform for different kinds of accommodation.
