Thanks for sharing your experience, OP. Yeah, that should be a must and the best option to avoid what you experienced. That's how Bitcoin was created, it was meant for payments across borders, a second option to choose as an investment, but now its main purpose is often forgotten. As we can see, holding Bitcoin as a store of value is one motivation for many people, but spending Bitcoin directly introduces volatility and technical issues that many users and merchants prefer to avoid in everyday transactions, IMO.
So, we can't blame them for that reason. But I hope someday they will realize that using Bitcoin as per day transaction or even a micro transaction will help the Bitcoin ecosystem, which makes it more valuable.

I highly agree that we should encourage merchants to accept Bitcoin payment. If we want to help Bitcoin economy to boom we must help to make Bitcoin have a real life use case not just a tool for investment.
If we have lots of stores that accept Bitcoin everywhere, the trust of thw masses will surely strengthen, making more people and money flow towards the Bitcoin economy.
This makes sense, even if you are a small business or big business; accepting Bitcoin, even if it's not popular in your area, is already a way of helping Bitcoin to promote itself. People will see it, they will become curious about Bitcoin, and that's the time they will get introduced. Especially now, there are already a lot of payment processors that you can use if you want less hassle accepting Bitcoin, like if you just want to get started, then these tools or platforms will really help you.

I'd be more than happy to pay with Bitcoin if merchants I regularly visit accept them. Unfortunately, I don't think the demand is that big. Looks like most of them still rely on centralized third-party services to accept payments. I guess it has to do with regulations and stuff like that, too. Not sure if I'll see any changes for markets like digital game top-up and stuff like that. There's a workaround with giftcard purchased on another marketplace, but it feels discouraging since we have to interact with 2-3 marketplaces instead of one.
Paying only with Bitcoin would bring me a lot of relief, not only interacting with other marketplaces, you'll keep paying service charges and taxes where applicable while you convert to fiat. I do beg merchants in my country to accept BTC but most don't accept it since their primary medium of financial interaction is Fiat. I could save a lot more if I could pay directly with Bitcoin, especially now that the fees are low. Even if they would at least accept USDT, I'll still love it since I could still send from my cake wallet, but they don't and it's more stressful and expensive for me as a person that doesn't hold much Fiat.

Wasn't it possible to sell your domain for bitcoin?
There are many registrars which accept bitcoin as payment method (njalla, namesilo , namecheap...) didnt you use them? I never sold a domain, just bought
4k was a good deal. I wish I had good creativity to find such domain names. Which one is it? Do you mind to share?
There is more to selling a domain name than just a simple goods and payment exchange. There is almost as much fraud in domaining as there is in crypto. Using an established registraf that holds you name registration cuts out as lot of the risk. In my case, I don't think it was the registrar that caused the payment failure. I think it was either an intermediate bank, or government intervention. Whilst there are many registrars who accept Bitcoin payment, they don't all provide a Bitcoin payment service. One gets the feeling that they are holding Bitcoin as an investment, and this reduces liquidity of course, I am not prepared to list the name, as the buyer was almost the perfect customer. He submitted an offer via email, and stated that he wanted to move quickly. He offered $4,000, which was slightly higher than the Godaddy valuation, and I think the domain was worth a bit more. However, I wanted to spend some money on my classic car restorations, so I decided to accept his offer, and use the money to put one of my old Volvos back on the road. I added the name to my registrar's market place to use it as an escrow service. Within two days he had triggered the BIN, and paid for the name. This was one of the easiest sales I have made, and I'd like to find more honest buyers like this. The name was what I call a 3x2 .com. That is two 3 character words with a good niche association.

BTC is great for cross-border payment. I can understand people being reluctant to use it for small payments when fees are high, but right now fees are very low, so it is both suitable for cross-border payments and settling a purchase of a coffee.
If you are running a service with customers from different parts of the world, the smart thing to do is to add a BTC payment option. However, it would depend on what the law on crypto is in your jurisdiction, but if it is favorable, there is no reason not to do it.

I think the phrase “Bitcoin Accepted Here” is practically a historical reference today. There was a time when it seemed like a standard, and El Salvador was probably the place where it was most prevalent. However, the reality is that its use there is declining.
In my experience, outside the crypto space, businesses that accepted Bitcoin have been gradually disappearing. Even small businesses, like bakeries, have stopped accepting it. That “Bitcoin Accepted Here” craze we saw last decade has practically died out.
That said, I don’t want to sound pessimistic—this is simply my perspective and experience. Things can certainly change, and everyone can do their part to promote the idea, whether through a personal project or other initiatives.

Bitcoin was created to provide a simple international payment system, and it is perfect for this. Unfortunately it is also a good store of wealth and a speculative investment. The original payment option seems to be ignored by most sellers. I advertise that I accept Bitcoin, and I even give a discount for Bitcoin payments. I think it is in our long term interests to preserve this valuable facility.
It’s a typical example of you can’t eat your cake and still have it. Be it used for day to day transactions or store of value as a treasury currency, it’s up to you but yes, before all that comes into play, Bitcoin payment medium needs to be in place. I don’t see how it makes much difference in just having to use the said fiat amount involved in bargaining to buy Bitcoin and just send it over to the other party in business. It’s just how it ought to work in times as these when traditional banking systems proves to be a challenge.

Bitcoin is not good digital gold and good digital cash at same time, but you are correct that to become new change to old banking, payment system must be easy. Reason is that today most businesses are just changing their local currency with Bitcoin to move money across countries within minutes instead of days and linked bank fees of up to 80 can be saved. These small deals daily can be done quickly and at very low costs with help of tools such as Lightning Network that fixes past issue of network being too slow to handle small purchases. It is calm way of business to go around broken banking systems and take control of their own money without consent of bank manager. So, fact that Bitcoin can be used as way to pay will allow to do 24/7 global trade, and its power to keep long term value is just added plus and not only purpose to use it.

Bitcoin blockchain was programmed and created as a decentralized blockchain for everyone to join with developments, full node operations, mining operations, relay block information to other nodes as well as being opened for everyone to use it with any use case they want. With this technical and operational availability of Bitcoin blockchain for everyone, it's quite wrong to say that Bitcoin can not have its role as a digital gold and a digital payment method at the same time. Practically, people and entities that have bitcoins have been all using bitcoins in their own ways, as a store of value, a payment method, anything else as well. The bullish case for Bitcoin book supports my point above more and I think you should read this book that has many insights.

Yes everybody should accept bitcoin. Treat it like they are accepting cash because bitcoin is basically just digital cash. The reason you see not enough bitcoin payment is because you're buying from big online shops and e-commerce platform. They definitely don't seem to be interested in doing it maybe because they are limited with the regulation and to keep their business "safe".
If you went out of your way finding some merchant I'm sure there are merchant willing to accept bitcoin. In fact there are tons of sites willing to accept bitcoin yet they used 3rd party payment gateway because tax reports is a real bottleneck.

For the Bitcoin economy to boom, having many merchants/stores accepting it is not enough. More importantly, there must be a genuine need from consumers, and those consumers are us. Instead of just promoting and encouraging others to accept/spend Bitcoin, we should also spend our Bitcoin instead of just hoarding it and waiting for the price to rise. This is the current situation. Most of us advise and encourage others to spend Bitcoin and use it according to its original purpose. But we are doing the opposite. Although not all but many stores now accept bitcoin, but ironically, many users (us) do not want to spend their bitcoin.

The fiat banking system is fragmenting, and with BRICS pay and other alternatives to Swift it is becoming extremely difficult to undertake international sales. I've been waiting for 2 months to receive a payment for a $4,000 domain name sale, and I still don't seem to be any closer to receiving it. The payment was rejected with an explanation of "treasury only" I've no idea what that means, and the explanations in Google don't appear to be relevant.
It's the cheapest payment option, others take a haircut but bitcoin is just few cents for fees. I too still don't understand why people still prefer to use something like debit card that charge premium on FX for international payments and fees on top of that while they can have bitcoin with zero fee and no chargeback. People are oblivious with the better alternative because they're too used with their old ways of getting hair cut in every transactions.
