What costs you to maintain Privacy?

I'm creating this thread to pass a a serious an important information to us about privacy with our Bitcoin regarding the safety that should involve, in case you are under the category of those that don't mind earning your privacy, then maybe this thread may change your mind to start considering how you could maximize every opportunity to have a secured privacy in your journey with cryptocurrency and Bitcoin in particular.

This thread is coming as a reminder/warning to some of us that don't value what privacy means in cryptocurrency and we think we have just arrived by just being opportuned to have invested in Bitcoin and we are on the top of the world, coming out to the public and sharing information about what we do and how we have made it (what we haven't achieved), just to impress others, then maybe this thread is for you as well to learn something and know what is at stake.

Scam is taking longer, the fastest way now is Crypto Kidnapping.

You had it clearly, because today, scammers are no more getting their victims as expected after discovering that many have been more informed on safety measures in cryptocurrency and to scam take much longer, but the easiest way now they choose to take is by kidnapping and this is getting more severe and increasing day by day with several cases of kidnapped bitcoin users, if you are conversant with the forum, you must have come across series of bitcoin kidnapped cases recently.

Currently, France is one of the countries that has the highest rate of crypto-related kidnapping, I know this might not have extended to our own country at such a pace, but we can choose to be alarmed and prevent such a happening to us, because in Nigeria, we have serious kidnapping challenges, but obviously not crypto-related.

Warning/Precaution to take.

1. Avoid public appearance whereby you are known for Bitcoin.
2. Try to make everything you do online and don't reveal your personal information to your location.
3. Know the kind of people you walk with and don't let them know your worth in Bitcoin or Crypto.
4. Don't share any of your personal information that has crypto-related information for them to trace.
5. Stay committed to learning privacy and security, leaving everything about you untraceable.

Privacy does not only end at the kind of wallet used, but we also have to be conscious of our physical privacy, personal self, and interests against being traced.

Nice post OP... Privacy should never be overlooked, as it is something that is very important.... This privacy can be both personal/physical and digital... Personal privacy entails folks being careful about the aspect of their life that they reveal to others.. This aspect could be the revelation of your total crypto net worth, your wallet pass code... And the Digital privacy is all about protecting your online presence/.activities. This includes avoiding any kind if digital mistakes like storing or even sending your seed phrases to a friend to store for you. It could also mean avoiding sharing any kind of funny link, or sharing any kind of sensitive info about yourself to anyone on the Internet

This may not be a public concern in Nigeria now but we do not know the future. It is better we protect ourselves and be private and avoid people from knowing that we have coins. If Nigeria start to be becoming like what is happening in France about abduction of people or any of their relatives known to the abductors, it will not be good, but we should try as much as possible to prevent it than to look for the cure.

The fact is regardless of in our country or not, we just have to be careful. Don't make noise of your crypto holdings if you aren't the type in the position to protect your self or loved one. The only problem I have is that todays kind of investors don't even care much about keeping privacy.. more reasons why you should avoid anything like public meetings or gathering. They are very common in Nigeria these days and I feel it's a way to expose one's privacy even if it's not intentional..we have seen situations of people who play deaf ears and carry out physical transactions. These things we feel not much important are there to keep us safe in the crypto space..

The issue I have is that you talked so much about protecting our privacy, but simply forget the fact that most of the exchange we use demands KYC requirements of which must be filled. Even to wallet use, we forget that every transactions we do gets recorded on the public ledger and can be traced back to the real owners if need be.

Besides these however, the privacy we should be more worried about is the leaks of information that could come from the individual holder, either during conversation or trying to feel proud and brag about our investments in Bitcoin to friends or silent listening ears on  how much we know on its subject.
That's how kidnappers get their information on a target and that's why it is important to learn to shut the hell up.

Nice one op, this is like a wake up call to all bitcoin enthusiast around the forum, because it is quiet painful losing your hard earned treasure to some kind of person that doesn't even deserve it or even know how you were able to put all of that together.

It is people that decide not to be using sites that is not requiring KYC, this makes the trading volume on the sites that do not require KYC to be low.

Even on exchanges that requires no KYC, you will still have to give the naira sender your account number. To limit it is still better than to increase the chance of people knowing you as crypto person.

People that are commonly attacked are known publicly to own coins.

The fact say kidnappers never begin to ask for ransom in crypto in awa country like we dey see for oda nations, no mean say e no go happen. Infact with the high level of kidnapping for awa country, nah just a matter of time before something like dis go become rampant.

You are right, Nigerian Kidnappers have not been targeting crypto owners. However, someone might become a victim if kidnappers know how much an individual is worth in crypto. Their targets is wealthy people and they will not hesitate to kidnap anyone who keep flaunting his crypto in public. The best way to protect yourself in this country is to live a modest and private life.

Danger is always unexpected, especially kidnapping. Our country is not yet familiar with the incident of crypto kidnapping. But since we are already starting to get familiar with such incidents, it may not take long for such incidents to happen in our country too.

In terms of security, I always give great importance to social media accounts. I never upload my pictures on social media so that a person can easily recognize me. Social media is an easy way to find your pic and social media is the easiest and first way to share your personal information with others. It is very important to keep an eye on who you are moving with and who is moving near you. There is no need to even discuss personal wealth with anyone. Do not turn your wealth into a story and read that story to others, because the people close to you can be your biggest enemies.

Kidnapping on its own is already a major crisis in this country and while non of it has been related to crypto in general so far the likelihood of it happening anytime in the near future is very high, we all really need to be cautious with who we choose to share information with, that your friend that you trust might not betray you but the chances that he has spoken to someone else about you is very high, he might not have meant any harm, probably just bragging about you as his friend but the people who end up listening to this might seem you as their next big hit.

One of the most underrated parts of crypto literacy is actually privacy and people barely understand what it means and how to apply it. All these are important as long as you want to make your crypto life untraceable and unknown. The trend of having social media likes because of the amount of Bitcoin you have in your savings to boost your account is not for you and it’d be better if you desist from such life.

Many people want to follow the trend and feel pompous on social media not knowing that they’re exposing themselves to danger the more, this makes things easier for the one who wants to harm you and forcefully steal from you using physical arm. Privacy and security of your Bitcoin holdings is non-negotiable as a holder but a must that you should inculcate in your everyday life.
