You let me remember when Leicester City won the English Premier League many years ago. Its team played their last 2 or so of their previous season excellently but it was close to relegation, but not knowing that the club will become something better in the following season. If I remember very well, I remember only Arsenal that won the club that season both home and away while other good clubs like Manchester City were  disciplined by Leicester. I remember something, that when Leicester was playing, the bookies still prefer to give the club high odds but the club was the one winning.

I disagree with you OP. How will betting on an underdog team make them the favorite overtime. If all the gamblers bet on the underdog team over the favorite team, that doesn't change how they will perform on the pitch because their bet wouldn't influence their performance. If an underdog team did not improve their performance to be better than the favorite club to win the game, they will still lose. Those that bet on the underdog team will all lose their money. It's simple as that.

In many instances, underdog have managed to put up a win against the teams we see as the stronger ones and sometimes, trying them out ends up real good even though it's not something that's worth doing far too often.

The unpredictable nature of sports event coupled with the fact that teams are seriously putting in the effort to ensure they give any opposition a serious and fair fight makes it worthwhile playing an underdog sometimes because the team you see as an underdog today can end up beating most of the favourite teams you have out there..

That is a norms in sport games, as a child may have others who are ahead of them at any ramification, as the child grows up with morales of hardworking, so he can probably overtake those who were ahead and then becomes than some others. It is just about improvement and consistency.

And if those who were ahead don't have the energy to withstand the current situation, definitely they will loose influence and overtaking is always allowed because life is a competition that no one stays at the top forever except for affairs or event that is being politically manipulated of which, no team ever is an inheritance of championships.

Of course, I can't often bet on underdog teams. The odds offered are definitely good, but the chances of winning are likely slim. I’ve only been lucky a few times with such bets, because it’s obviously difficult to consistently win from matches where the favorite is clear. I don’t regret betting on underdog teams. Because if I place such bets, I would definitely bet small amounts and only on single bets. So it wouldn’t affect the outcome of my other bets.

I wouldn't bet on a team like that right away. I'd wait for them to go further or face another team where the odds are more favorable. Let's be honest, these are very difficult bets to predict, so we'd be tempting fate, and you have no way of knowing when it will be on your side. If I were to bet on a team like that, it would be because they've shown some signs of improvement, so I think in that case the odds wouldn't be as attractive, but they would still be better than the established favorite.

Yea, I remember that season very well. I was really into football during that time and watched all the premier League matches that played. Leicester FC was really something then and them winning was nothing short of a miraculous triumph, because who would have thought?

There was also Portsmouth FC in the '07 - '08 season during Harry Redknapp era. They were actually the underdogs in that season to win the trophy, simply because there were bigger and better teams than them, but on the pitch, they were a star-studded team which made them a bit strong at the time and briefly the best side in England by winning the FA Cup.
They beat Cardiff City 1–0 in the final thanks to a goal by Nwankwo Kanu.  
They finished 8th in the Premier League. Far from being relegated, they actually qualified for Europe UEFA Cup for the first time in their history.

The funny thing is that  in the next season, we didn't see the best of these teams that briefly became top dogs, they just didn't have the resources or prowess to remain top dog for longer than a season.

I have few situations when i bet on underdog. May be for someone it would be useful.
First of all, you have to know league you bet on. You must have information about all teams and control all changes. For me it is EPL but everybody can choose himself.
I analyze all league matches, try to watch at least review. Analyze what teams have problems. Manchester City was losing even underdogs several months ago, but odds were nice, if you was ready to bet against them.
I read all news to understand what team can become a breaker. In my situation Bournemouth shows good results even after selling their best forward.

It just few moments i use with examples. But i can say that it is risky enough and the best way is not to make really big bets. Following such advice will increase your excitement and may be bring some profit.

What makes a team fall under the category of the underdogs is because of their form and how they perform compared to the other team that they are up against and what takes from that level to being top dogs isn't the population of people that bet on them, I think your point on that is inaccurate. I always have this reservation in betting on underdog clubs until recently when Bodø/Glimt won Manchester city in the UEFA champions league. I decided to give them a try when they faced another top European club Atletico Madrid and they delivered by winning. I also banked on them against inter Milan in both legs of the champions league playoffs and they delivered, and that has has really changed my perspective about underdog teams. When you bet on underdogs teams and they win for you the feeling is far more sweeter than when a big team win bets for you.

Whenever I want to place some betting on sports games, I don't do so looking at which team is the favourite and which team is the underdog, I simply bet one the team that I know or believe have the best chances and ability to win the game, and with this, my bet could fall on either that favorite or the underdog, it doesn't really matter to me who is who or which team is this and which team is that.

And concerning how betting on the underdog could turn them into a top dog over night, that is completely understandable but only if they could pull a large number or volume of bets far more than the team considered to be that top dog.

Betting on an underdog means betting against the bookmaker’s opinion. And how often do you really catch yourself thinking that the bookmaker has made a mistake in the odds? That’s exactly why, personally I find it very difficult to bet on underdogs. When you analyze a match, everything usually points to the favorite winning, and convincing yourself otherwise is quite hard, especially when you have to risk your own money on it.

I think something last year when many people gave Arsenal winning against a team that played with them, but all of the sudden it happens that the team won against Arsenal which vast majority of people lose the match, where the underdog was given a higher odds and those who bet on the underdog had winning and the odds where very big. * Yes, it happens when the top dogs performances start to drop and that's why they're considered underdogs later by the bookies.
* I don't regret doing it. But doing that is a kind of big risk for me not unless I really know that there's an improvement from them.   
   That's why if I bet on them, I make sure that it's not a random bet that I want to fulfill but I did my research before putting that bet.
