Boxing doesn’t feel the same anymore, sometimes it looks like they’re just chasing the money instead of protecting the sport itself.
You got my drift there. We saw what that YouTuber (Jake Paul) did with Mike Tyson. It was a sham of a show. Again, it was his bout with Anthony Joshua that fixed his jaw just like AJ stunned Francis Ngannou too.

While growing up, I saw boxing as a serious sport. It's the only sport paid to watch where pugilists are rightly licensed to kill without being in a war situation. Today, that sport is turning to entertainment. That level of seriousness is almost fading away.

While growing up, I saw boxing as a serious sport. It's the only sport paid to watch where pugilists are rightly licensed to kill without being in a war situation. Today, that sport is turning to entertainment. That level of seriousness is almost fading away.
It has always been entertaining, but the kind of entertainment now feels different. It’s not really focused on satisfying most of the fans anymore, it’s more about making sure the event generates as much profit as possible. Even if the fight itself isn’t the best matchup, they’re very good at hyping it. With all the promotion, vloggers talking about it, paid ads everywhere, and constant media coverage, people still get interested and the event still sells.

The thing with these kinds of fights is the risk is much lower compared to serious boxing. Fighters can avoid heavy damage, make easy money, and even fight more often. But at the same time the integrity of the sport gets weaker, especially if it’s just an exhibition and not sanctioned by a real boxing organization. Some people will always wonder if parts of it are scripted.

Btw, is there any info that it will be sponsored by Saudi? Strange that they will fight in Egypt, as it does not seems to be most boxing place.
According to this article, the fight is sponsored by "The Ring", there is no mention in the article that it is sponsored by the Saudi. My guess as to why this is happening in Egypt is becuase who ever organized this fight made a deal with Egypt, I mean, this is a good tourist boost for them, they are also probably hoping people will fly in to watch the fight.

The Ring Magazine is owned by Turki Alalshikh, who has turned it into the propaganda arm of his Saudi financed boxing ventures.

Why not fight Jake Paul then? Cheesy It would be more money for sure. Or why not those Saudi organize a real challenging boxing fight if they have so much money? Why not beat AJ for the third time? Cheesy Easy money as well. Why not take part in WWE? Same circus, well paid and less injury possible Cheesy

Jake Paul just had a second surgery for his jaw and I doubt he wants to fight another high level boxer again. AJ was in a car accident recently and we don’t know if he will continue fighting; there is also no point in a third fight.

The fight with Verhoeven is an obvious cash grab. The fact he wasn’t able to arrange a cash grab fight against other fighters or influencers doesn’t negate that.

Oleksandr Usyk made a statement yesterday regarding his potential fights after the one with Rico Verhoeven. After this fight, he will take on the winners from the Daniel Dubois vs Fabio Wardley match. If he can win that one, then for the third time Usyk will be crowned as the undisputed champion in the heavyweight division. BTW, I really doubt whether he is taking the fight against Verhoeven seriously. This is his statement:

Quote
“For me, it’s a real fight. Yes, Rico is not a good boxer, okay fun fight, no problem, but I want my next fight [against the] winner of Daniel Dubois and Wardley.”

I guess that's the connection to Saudi Arabia, apparently, according to this article, Turki Alalshikh isn't just some rich individual from Saudi, the guy has a connection to the royal family in Saudi and is also working for the government there.

Yes, that's why he can event billions of dollars of money because he has the blessing from the Saudi government. It started in the pandemic if I'm not mistaken, having fights in Saudi with the Heavyweights, now he is friends of Dana White and almost all boxers, so that's how powerful HE Turki Alalshikh.

So for this fight, it's hard to go against his wish for Usyk to fight Verhoeven. But in all grand scheme of things, maybe after this Usyk will have to fight and defend his belts against worthy opponents in his division.

Tyson Fury also did not take fight against MMA fighter Francis Ngannou seriously and was knocked down in early rounds. He still won by split decision, but it was a good call that you should always prepare properly. Its heavyweight division. One punch can change everything.

Third fight against Dubois? I see no big drama there as Usyk has won first two by KOs. Usyk should search for new blood, new opponents. His trilogy with Dubois does not look like he has anything left to prove.

I did not create a poll here knowing that Usyk is the =heavy favorite and will likely win, but Usyk should not be complascent I'm sure he has watched Rico's best fights, and he is aware of what Rico is bringing into the ring, although he considers this a fun fight, but he can make a necessary shift to make the fight serious and in his favor.
He has more arsenals as a boxer than Rico, who is foremost a kickboxer.

I watched Rico's fights on YouTube. Yes, he's a good fighter and especially good with his feet, but his hands... not so good. Usyk wouldn't even let him near him, they have completely different striking techniques. I like Usyk as a boxer and I always watch his fights, but what's going to happen soon gives me a strange feeling.

Motormouth Tyson Fury struggled against Francis Ngannou, but he refused to let go his arrogant behaviour. Immediately after that fight, he lost two consecutive fights to Oleksandr Usyk (both of them in 2024). Regarding Usyk vs Dubois 3, first of all Daniel Dubois need to win against Fabio Wardley. I am not 100% sure whether he will be able to do that. In the last few months, Wardley won by KO against Joseph Parker and Justis Huni. He is looking in great shape as of now. It may well be Usyk vs Wardley. BTW, no one is even mentioning the name of Agit Kabayel (mandatory challenger for the WBC title).
