During these uncertain economic times, do you prefer to look for a regular job or just enlist in the military? I mean, the benefits offered by the military are often hard to ignore. At least, in the US. But I understand that military service is not for everyone. If you had to choose between the two, which one will you pick?

I prioritise my safety above everyother thing so I therefore don’t consider jobs that exposes my life. in this regard I’ll prefer to be  a civil than being in the military just because I do not want to risk my life. It may be like I'm a little bit selfish but thats what it is. a man once dead is gone forever.

Seriously? Apparently, serving in the American army is now something of a resort. It's just not known how long this will last. In truly warring armies, military service is far from a resort. But of course, if you don't think about it, then such a service is just an ideal option. It's absolutely safe (so far), and they pay a lot of money.

Well I'm not cut out for such kind of job like being a military. I believe some people are destined for it as they desire it while some have it as their last option for survival and to protect their family against aggressors or trespassers. But for me, I won't consider being in the military for anything. I don't like to intentionally put my life in danger of death. Surely everyone will die but to intentionally volunteer myself for such "wilful" death is not want I will consider. There are some countries that have high level of insecurities and in such countries, being in the military is wilful death sort of especially when the military force is not well equipped and are compromised. However, there are some countries that there military is less in death rate and are well taken care o, the risk of wilful death like US.

If you come from a background without much money or future prospects, the military might actually be a reasonable choice - which is even better during times of peace when you're less likely to enter hostilities. However our always benevolent politicians are always seeking out ways to get usage out of this expensive asset, whether it makes sense or not. It's worth trying to specialize if you can and take on any training courses offered in practical skills like electrics, which could allow you to discharge later with a higher quality education. However it is not a choice to make likely as you may find yourself being shot at by people wanting to kill you years down the line, at which point there is no backing out and you will forever be called upon as the first line of defense should any war escalate.

Using the united state as an example, joining the military might appear as something that is attractive but anything outside the united state, especially in some developing countries that has a lot of crisis that are ongoing, joining the military is almost like signing a death sentence because from the day you joined them, you have directly dawned yourself closer to death and restlessness.  i will rather join a civil service job with a smaller pay that allows me to get involved in other things and still earn from those things rather than joining the military. i am not ignorant of the privileges that is associated with it but at the same time, the demerit out numbers the merit.

If you are educated, the best is military. You will not be part of the people that will be carrying weapon about and going to war just like that, but you will start with a higher rank and those lower rank will respect.

Another thing is the respect other military, paramilitary, other government officials and civilians are giving to military officers which is a very respectful thing.

Actually, it varies from person to person, In a regular job you can do whatever you want, change careers if you want and your life is a little free. But in these uncertain times, there is always a fear of job security. When you join the military, you are guaranteed income, medical care and many benefits and your life is organized, however the rules here are very strict, there are risks and you can't always do what you want. If I had to choose I would take a regular job because I like to progress slowly with my skills, however the military is a really good option for those who want a family secure safe and disciplined life.

Searching for regular job is better for me. I don't wants to join military because that is too discipline and strict for me. I prefer to do civilians than join in military. Maybe they offers many things but I don't like it. Once you join in military, you must obey the rules and strictly.

But I will let those who wants join military and searching for a bright future there. Maybe they want to have a career in the military and thinks that is looks cool.

Military will steal my whole life completely because I won't be able to have time for myself anymore, respect to all those who are in the military protecting their countries, it's not easy.

I am someone who is a complete introvert, I am able to go into web3 and crypto because of what I am,  everything I've learnt to do is all on the internet apart from a side business that I am running.

I don't do jobs and I can't go into military, I prefer to be a boss of myself and live the way I want rather than service under someone or the government.

Keeping patriotism aside, I would take a civilian job any day regardless of the benefits I could get from a military job because when you become a servant of the country, you basically lose all your freedom, you will mostly be on duty away from home and your people, you won't get to spend time with your family, or do things that you generally like to do, so I personally don't see how it is beneficial for one to have good benefits and everything when they can't really enjoy any of it until they retire, which means you will spend most part of your life for it without even knowing whether you will survive or not since we know what kind of things you do as a soldier.

I know, if we all think this way then a country will never have soldiers, and I totally get it that for the love of our country, we have to step up to protect it, but we can't all have the same mindset, there will be people who would prefer going into the military, maybe because they are patriotic or maybe because they want the benefits for their families, but I think differently of these things, I believe we should stay around even if we are not having a lavish lifestyle.

 There are better chances of gaining when you have a job in the military but as you said, it's not everyone that's cut out for the stress and risks involved. In my country, everything is politically inclined; which means for you to get a good paying job as a civilian is very hard and rare to come by if you're not connected and then to enlist in the Army, is another task. I remember when there was a summons by the government of my country that all eligible males, willing or not would need to enlist in the Army. I feel that if this was a good thing it wouldn't have been made public, they would have ensured that they put their relatives and loved ones but since it was a very dire circumstances where the chances of survival is slim so the both sides are tough. Joining the Army is tough but there are benefits same as being a civilian but then it all depends on if it's a lucrative one that can be used to survive the harsh economy.

I was in the USN for 5 years.  It has good points.  But you can get really fucked. So I would argue try civilian.

If it weren't for certain countries enforcing compulsory military service, not many people would choose to join the military to reap the benefits.
The military is not a rational choice for me when we are facing economic uncertainty. Countries with good economic governance and no corruption, even though the military is a concern for national security, will focus on welfare in other sectors.

If I had to choose between the two, I would not choose the military.

I have a civilian job but would seriously not think of military service unless it is very important.

Wars might happen but peace is what should be tried by governments and they usually follow that path so that wars dont escalate. But if needed I would consider twice before joining military service because I prefer my safety over others, selfish but true and also I have a family to raise, cant live a day without seeing their faces.

military service isn’t just about physicality. it’s a mental strength. it’s accepting that you are putting your life on the line to serve your country and not everyone can confidently say they can do that

"At least in the US", that's a strong line.Benefits in the US Armed Forces are different from what someone might receive in countries like Nigeria or United Kingdom.My question is are you choosing military benefits package over your  long-term comfort&security.I'll always prioritize alignment with my personality,stability,flexibility and freedom to shape my own path over a structured benefits package.

Economy, job and best position to do....!

The military, one of the state's tools, is ready to work and be assigned anywhere, bound, not free and with a salary and economic income that has been determined, nothing more, for example $5k per month, yes, that's what you get.
Civilians/business people have unlimited career paths, the economy is unlimited, you are free to go anywhere and do anything, that is the advantage of civil and military.

Just in view, if you are referring to the economy, of course civil work is the best choice, unless it is a conflict/war country, which is a different story.

I live in a hostile country where we have a separatist in the North and a communist in the South, and of course, we are always under threat by China because of the West Philippine Sea. With all of these, I may not live to see my grandchildren.
I prefer to grow old and enjoy life; my chances are good if I am in a civilian job, and if you're in the military, you are well compensated, but your freedom is limited.

outside any immediate benefits, the military is a call to serve, it's not really about what to benefit, because if you want to look at the benefits, it's not equal considering the risk involved. People that join the military do that on volunteery reasons, because the unthinkable can happen to them, you can be sent to do the unimaginable things, which ordinarily you wouldn't do, and this is far from your regular jobs. So for me, I wouldn't join the military for peculiary benefit but I will see it as a call to duty inspite the benefit. So civilian jobs just be on the same page with military job, it's a parallel line between them.
