How is the merit rank system calculated? It seems like increasing rank in the early stages is very difficult due to the high requirements compared to the next rank.

For now:
Newbie = 0
Jr. Member = 1
Member = 10
Full Member = 100
Sr. Member = 250
Hero = 500
Legendary = 100

It's mean,

From Jr. Member to Member need 10x merit
From Member to Full member need 10x merit
From Full member to Sr. Member need 2.5x merit
From Sr.member to Hero Member need 2x merit
From Hero member to Legendary need 2x merit

What if

From Jr. Member to Member need 5x merit (5 merit)
From Member to Full member need 5x merit (50 merit)
From Full member to Sr. Member need 3x merit (150 merit)
From Sr.member to Hero Member need 3x merit (450 merit)
From Hero member to Legendary need 2.22x merit (1000 merit)

I'm pretty sure most members disagree, but this is just a calculation. There's no need to change anything in the existing system.

It only looks that way cause you're starting from zero at the beginning, so the percentage increase is higher. There used to be no merit requirement for Jr member, it was added in due to high spam rate. The original idea was to earn enough to get to member rank and rank higher from there.

When you look at the numbers increase, you need 9 more merits to move from Jr. Member to Member,
90 more to move from Member to Full Member,
150 more to move from Full Member to Sr. Member and it keeps increasing that way.
Anyone who has ranked up will tell you that the numbers matter more than the percentage.
More importantly, you do not have to rank up to use the forum. If you're just interested in learning and contributing your merit count doesn't matter at all.

Ranking up is not an impossible task. You ask how rank system is calculated but proceeds to give an accurate answer. I think the real question you want to ask is why am I not getting merits. I’d advise you visit boards other than games & rounds and your local board. I took a look at your post history, even if you want to apply to merit threads, you don’t have the quality posts to merit.

You wrote it like you're fearful that theymos will change the current merit system and rank system but the rank system was changed some times from no activity requirements for ranks, to activity requirements for ranks, to merit point from member ranks and above to demoting Junior members with no 1 merit.

Changes are because of garbage posting.

Due to excessive garbage-posting, you now need 1 merit to be a Jr Member.

Your math sucks

You need roughly 1 Merit per day to reach all Ranks by the time you have enough Activity. That's not difficult for anyone with half decent posts, and the Merit system is designed to stop others from Ranking up as many accounts as they can spam with.

More importantly, you do not have to rank up to use the forum. If you're just interested in learning and contributing your merit count doesn't matter at all.

The merit system is fine this way as it remains challenging to acquire ranks especially the higher they go.
The only exception I have is the hero member to legendary member which requires a whooping 500 merits. This number is very high and make some people get stucked in the hero rank.
I thought your proposal will close a bit the gap between Hero and legendary, rather you added more 50 merits to it.

The best way to enjoy the forum is to be a good user whose merit count is much higher than their activity count. By this, you will attain a tank even before reaching the activity of the rank.

Your suggestion is not bad but I don't see why we should be having something new aside from what we have already been seeing from the ranking system, moreover, to move from one particular rank to another is not that difficult if that person is committed to contributing well with quality post, just that the higher you go the higher your merit requirements to think a particular rank, because you can't compare your experience being a newbie to when you already attained more higher ranks should come different with higher expectations.

Well it's high time people realised math it so core and relatable that you can actually try to bend anything into being interpretable by math and that's mostly what I see here. That aside it's fine to have a little joke around with math related stuff. As far as merit is concerned though, it's just a fraction of what brings rank.

Everyone does not rank up the same way even if the system makes it similar for some merit might be a setback and for others activity could be too.

That's the merit system, users who don't really have good quality posts and / or contribute to the forum offcourse, will struggle to move up the ranks. However, there are some threads that offer free merit, and I feel like it's a sort of merit giveaway. Furthermore, merit can also be awarded when IF user A likes user B, so without good quality posts, they'll easily spend their merit. With that mind, I can only advise you to keep spirit in this forum, because this system has implemented for a long time and im sure that can't be changed.

This practice is not recommended and hoped to see by theymos.

I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
 - Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
 - Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.

While we will not be directly moderating this, I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

Forum users are human so they can have emotion that affects their interactions with other forum members including merit sending. I agree with you that if user A likes user B, it's more easily to send merit to user A but let's do it with quality posts only.

If it is merit sending to good posts, quality posts, it's right but if user preference with each other leads to merit sent to shitposts, it's another different thing for discussion and it's not good way of using merit.

What is your objective, why is ranking up so important for you? (I have a suspicion of why, but it might not be correct.)

It's my thinking that users who focus too much on merits are those who struggle the most (sure, there're exceptions and they're rare).

If your posts add value and quality to topics or the forum in general, merits will flow to you quite naturally. If you haven't much of value to post then it's gonna be a grind and complaining about it isn't uncommon. Guess, what's the problem here.

And be sure, even if your proposed changed would be implemented (they won't!) there will be users who will complain about your lowered thresholds, too.

If you give more time to the forum and write valuable posts/threads then you'll receive more than 100 merits or even 250 merits within a year. There are members who received more than 500 merits within a year and if you want to be among those people then you'll have to write valuable and informative posts/threads.

You've received 12 merits in February 2026 and if you become more active then there's chance that you may get more merits for your contribution to the forum. The merit system works and the merit sources always try to send merits to the posts/thread that are merit worthy. I suggest you to be active on the forum and learn about Bitcoin in detail, and contribute informative stuff, within a year you'll reach a good rank.

I don't think there is any much difference from how it was originally to what you are saying, I think you are just trying to make the whole a bit twisted than the way it was now. Usually, merits is something that is being introduced to see how useful people could to the forum and comb away those who are spamming or doing shit posting on the forum. You can actually see those who are putting efforts to make sure they grows independently even there is restriction while those that can't scale through the system gave up already.

Since you’re still new, it’s quite normal for such questions to come to your mind. Otherwise, the issue of ranking has already been discussed many times before. That’s why I wasn’t really surprised when I saw the number you calculated based on your own discussion. But if you look at me, you’ll notice that I also haven’t been here for a very long time. Even so, I always try my best to make good posts and maintain proper quality in what I write.
Earning merit is not really that difficult, you just need to stay active in the forum and try to make helpful and quality posts then you can earn merit easily. At the same time, it’s not only about merit here because activity also matters. The accounts that can keep a good balance between merit and activity are the ones that can gradually move forward to higher ranks.

It seems to me that you only took into account mathematics in your question and neglected everything else.
You need to look at things from the perspective of a new member, who has no experience on this forum and doesn't know much about crypto.
Such a member should be encouraged, and helped in the beginning to see some progress on this forum as soon as possible, and not make it difficult for me and raise the criteria so that a junior member would need 5 merits instead of 1.
Such things can discourage new members from participating in this forum.
I personally know a friend of mine, to whom I recommended this forum, who gave up because he didn't feel welcome on this forum.

You were literally merited the entire month of February and once in November 2025, what are you complaining about exactly?

The system is in place to deter people from spamming and to promote post quality over quantity, the fact that you were merited for a whole month shows that people liked the quality of your posts a lot, so keep doing what you're doing and eventually you will reach whatever merit goal you have. Complaining about it isn't gonna help you rank up faster mate.

I think you have made your point noted, well but you should know that this rules have been made to provide a good post counts and also quality post, in a nutshell you receive merits for a good quality post not something that is like a shit poster, well this days we now see shit posters getting merits and growing in the forum which is very confusing to me, anyways talking about your maths I think there is absolutely nothing anyone can do about your suggestion because that is how things have been made right from when the forum started, and I believe you already knows that their is no change that will be made on this platform considering what you have suggested.

You should also know that your account is rated by activities and merits as well because you can grow so don’t forget that activities are very important and crucial.
