We are the government and just as we usually say let the change we want begins with us, there are lot of disappointment from the government I mean our representatives in various arms of the government, projects are being awarded but yet they will share the money among themselves leaving the projects while the poor masses suffer the pains, it is so bad how things are getting worse instead of getting better, most of the government teachers doesn't go to work as expected but receive their monthly salaries and even some hospitals are lacking so many facilities and even the ones they have are not functioning as a result of inactive staff who are only interested in their monthly salaries.

Government schools are going down, including the federal schools. This issue is not from the government directly is from our professors who should be supporting education from the grassroot, i seat one day, I'm begin to think why our primary schools and secondary school has turned into a playing ground for children? Is it because they are no seat in the school, some building are falling down but everybody decide to keep quiet not even the professors raise this issue to stop all these damages just because they have been paid well in their institution.

The government is falling down every day because even the university are suffering from the setback of both primary and secondary school are suffering from now, they are all aware and the knew when primary school and secondary school are being taken for granted but because they were not affected.

i know that sometimes we blame the government but I'm here to say that all problems is not the government but our brothers that will choose to be communicating for us through government.
Anyone who occupies an elective position form part of the government and in this particular case you brought up, the government is the problem here. The government school will continue to go down in this country if the people that have the interest of the masses at heart are not elected into office. Or there should be a legislation that all public office holders should send their children to public school in the country. Until any of these two things I listed are done, the public schools in Nigeria will continue to be a mess.

Government Schools in this part of the country has gone down for a longer period of time now, it's just getting public attention because of the presence of social media, our leaders neglect our public schools to the extent it dilapidates and you can't even find a single chair in class rooms, imagine the guts and audacity that the chairman has to intimidate the poor girl who spoke for the well-being of the children suffering without chair and leakages, just because he is in position of authority.

Governance is all about criticism, once you are a leader you must be criticize and good leaders uses the criticism to work for their advantage by repairing what they have been criticize for not to harass those that speak up, the chairman is not mentally fit to be a leader because he doesn't have the charisma to lead. Nigeria system is a zoo if not the chairman would have been removed from office with immediate effect for harassing and beating up the poor lady. Due to the negligence of our leaders concerning government schools it continues to go down everyday and there are no teachers to teach the students, too bad.

A total mess, I must concure. I love the two points you just raised, especially the last, there should be a legislative law that binds all government office holders to keep there children in government schools, else you won't rule, and see if government schools wouldn't be the best in town, or see wether any of them can risk loosing there offices just to send there children abroad for education. I just wish it's gonna be possible, but hell no, it can't be, because they are the once will going to enact the law and sign it into law, and thus, they can't agree to what will affect them negatively. But sincerely, government schools in Nigeria are really suffering due to greed. From the principal down to the least worker is self concerned and not rte future of the future leaders so to say. Maybe, only miracle can save us, because sincerely, we have lost it completely

Yes the Nigerian government is not doing well when it comes to public schools, however the reduction in standard of education shouldn’t be perked to infrastructure alone, teaching someone well is not subject to good building alone, i attended a public secondary school were cultism and bad infrastructure was on a high rate yet i had teachers that knew what they were doing, teachers that were dedicated, the teachers back then were able to use the local materials we had available in the school to impact us with so much knowledge, as a matter of fact we competed with private schools and still won on several occasions because sometimes it’s not all about the physical structure but the zeal and the efforts of the teachers and students too, but this days most of the teachers are half backed, they are more concerned about money, hence don’t pay attention to details that is why our educational system keep on falling.

On the other hand our government are extremely wicked and unfair to the educational sector, a state like Rivers with the kind of generated revenue they make should always ensure schools are kept in good shape and also ensure that teachers are well paid so that there will be motivation, our government must wake up and ensure that schools, hospitals and security is there goal.

The reason is cumulative, no government where everyone because the head can get required result, I can vow during my days in school government school despite lacking some required facilities still maintain certain standard unlike what it's today, situation where different government school takes holiday's without aligning with the federal for unknown reason not even issued by the federal but state it will bring down standard of education. Most time issue of many leaders children or those that are financially solvent don't school in the country even the middle class seek national private institution to send their children, the educational system will collapsed because there is no balance in the system. Secondly hardly in our today educational system you see government officials going from school to school in monitoring day to day activities and performance of their employed teachers like before the school system is already down an will take greater force to revived it.

My thoughts on why the chairman had to go to the extent of beating up the woman after she made that video show's that something is off, is either the contract has been awarded to him and he didn't do the work or may be his covering for a higher up. This are the things we face in this country, people are being given jobs and well funded but at the end of the day nothing is done and once an alarm is raised you get beaten up or being threatened.

Most of our problems are those people who are elected in our local government, community leaders and not even the government itself, you'll go to some government school's to see only few chairs some pupils will even sit on the bare floor to learn , some no blackboard for teacher's to write on and if you check well, most of this things are being awarded to someone and he/she used the money for their selfish reasons.

I attended a government school back and then it was different altogether, we had a beautiful environment, well trained teachers, neat classrooms, and you can walk to the principals office anytime if you need anything from her, but this days it quite different as you hardly see who the headmaster or principal is, teacher's mostly attend school put their names in attendance and zoom off to their personal business instead of teaching students which is the primary reason why they're employed.

Government school used to be the best then, because of how devoted teacher's were back then, my older sister works in a government school and she told me that a student who missed her test came to offer her money so that she can pass him and according to what the student said that he used to pay some of the teachers if he skips test or exams so they give him his score, i couldn't say anything when she was telling me that, even the principal is the worst as most of the students tips him too. Government school is becoming something else on daily basis as the government and those In charge of our local board aren't helping matters as well, hope something can be done about fixing most of these government schools that needs urgent attention.

When you talk about government, there are different levels of governance and it runs from the top to the butom with all of them completely chained together in a particular order.

We have the president, governors, local government chairman, councilors and ward representative.  Each of them communicate with one another and for a case as this, there's no way the local government chairman will say that he's not aware of the state of the building that has gone down even upto that point. If through the awareness that was created by the lady the local government chairman can get to her just to abuse her, what then stops him from taking responsibility and swinging right into action? The only thing here is that we always behave as though the political class are above the law and so whatever they want to do they can do it at will and goes Scot free. Ideally the law is supposed to affect everyone involved from the top to the button and wether you're a governments official or night, your right is limited in the context of attacking a citizen that did you no harm.

This issues just shows that the people we elect to lead us, definitely don't care about us and it also shows the kind of country we are living. The lady did the right thing to call the attention of the local government chairman to come to the aids of the student, but the local government has to go to her house and beat her up, which is really bad an unprofessional of him. For crying out loud it's his duty to renovate the school and make it better for the students,  but he choose to showcase his power on the poor lady that decide to call her out. This is just show of power as far as I am concerned,  because it was alleged that he made a statement that he will deal with the girl an nothing is going to happen. I am very sure that this will not happen in the western world, but if it happens,  the chairman will resign and also be arrested, but I am sure nothing is going to happen to him, just as he had said. It such a pity that we are in this part of the world.

The problem that we have in Nigeria, about government infrastructures is that they don't have maintainance culture. After commissioning any project and they will abandon it and when wear and tears starts to happen that is how the structure will start to spoil. I believe that government makes allocations for repairs and renovations but the same people in the government will steal all the money, another year another allocation and they will still share it between themselves.

It is not only government schools that are in bad shapes even our roads, public health facilities, electricity, water, the list is endless. Our leaders don't care because their families don't use those facilities and that is why the neglect is too much, only God can help the poor masses in Nigeria.

Just as you said, maintaining culture of government facilities that is the problem with our government and instead of them to maintain those facilities they rather enter into new projects that they will later abandon why they embezzle the funds and share amongst themselves, very greedy set of people. Of course, the government gives allocation to the local government levels for them to renovate government structures that are dilapidated, but it's been same pattern of diverting the funds to private pockets. I don't blame them because since their children are outside the country studying, they don't know the pain of the common children in the society.

It’s so disheartening to see that our democracy is crumbling and those we elected into government to govern us are the ones responsible for this abuse of power. In a democratic state the citizens have every right to ask for accountability in the hands of those who they elected into office but when the citizens tries to ask for this accountability they got humiliated and beaten up, what a shame. In a more civilized world I don’t think this Ahoada west local government chairman will get away with this freely if truly that young lady was beaten up simply because she asks for accountability from the hands of their leader in Ahoada local government.

I was not pleased when i came across a story in social media were a lady was speaking the heart of the students in the social media by calling on the chairman of ahoada local government in River State to come to their aid so that the chairman can write to the government or solve the problem, and could you believe that after the class room teacher finished showing those affected that needs the attention of the government to work because most of the class rooms building and zinc need renovation, i hard that the lady was beating up by the local government chairman in Ahoada local in Rivers State, i know that some time those that we elected to be speaking for us and letting the government the problems that need urgent attention in the society but due to their own selfish interest they will aboundon all that they promise to do for people, i know that sometimes we blame the government but I'm here to say that all problems is not the government but our brothers that will choose to be communicating for us through government.
This was the peak of abuse of power to an individual and a community to me and this also opened my eye to certain things such as asking whether a council chairman also have the immunity protection of being arrested or prosecuted after committing such a huge human right violation over a girl child for standing up to speak for the betterment of the community and whether the Nigerian law have also enlisted human rights violations such as those involved in criminal conduct such as physical assault? I know for sure the Nigerian law does not guarantee the immunity protection on these guys if they commit such offense even while they are in office. If an LGA council chairman beats up a girl child for speaking out about their community issues, this action is not in any way related to his official duties and should not be covered by the immunity and the chairman should be subject to investigation and prosecution over such inactions.

If we want to debate this based on the law, in a sane society, the chairman should have been invited by the law right now because under the Nigerian law physical assaults especially against minors already constitutes a criminal offense because the Nigerian constitution (section 308) provides immunity only for actions performed in the course of official duties and does not extend to abuse of power and criminal offenses like what the mumu chairman did. The Nigerian Child Rights Act and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child have both made provisions for specific and special protections for children against children and if he claims he's a leader, he must lead by example and abide by the law not sabotaging and violating it as such, this chairman guy should be interrogated and things like this should not be taken likely with mad people like this.
