Manys of uz are aware that Bitcoin as a digital asset has its history and culture, which has been built over the year, right from its inception in 2009... And there are important dates that act as a reminder to Bitcoin's history and culture, some of which are-

  • January 3rd- Bitcoin's Genesis Block Day: Everyone of us have a day which marks our birth, this also applies to Bitcoin. This was the day when the genesis block was first mined by Nakamoto....
  • January 12th- Bitcoin Transaction Day: This marked the first peer-to-peer transaction, as Nakamoto sent 10 BTC to an early supporterof Bitcoin by name Harold Thomas Finney
  • January 27th- Silk Road Day: Silk Road as a website, was the first to use Bitcoin as it native currency to facilitate the trade of illegal good and services. Silk Road was created by an American hacker by name  Ross Ulbricht
  • February 24th- Mt Gox Day: This marks a day of the collapse of Mt Gox Exchange, and it is a reminder of why self custody is very important in storing your Bitcoins( Not your Keyz, Not your Coinz)
  • March 9th- Cypherpunk Day: The principles of the Cypherpunk Manifesto is what inspired the birth of Bitcoin
  • April 5th- The day Satoshi Nakamoto was born
  • May 10th- Lightning Day: This is a day, used to celebrate the first lightning transaction.
  • May 22nd- Bitcoin Pizza Day: This day is used to celebrate when a programmer by name Laszlo Hanyecz bought pizza for a whooping sum of 10,000 BTC... This day act as a reminder to those folks who still doubt Bitcoin possibility as a means of payment.... May 22nd is usually celebrated even im this forum and for those that want to join you can check it out on Meta section
  • May 24th- Craig Wright is a Fraud Day: Folks in the past have tried to claim the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, and Craig Wright happens to be one of them. On this day, the UK court rejected Craig claims to be Satoshi Nakamoto
  • August 1st- Bitcoin Independence Day
  • August 21th- Bitcoin Infinity Day: This day is used to celebrate Bitcoin as the best asset as well as it's 21 million fixed supply
  • October 1st- Free Ross Day: This was the day where the creator of Silk Road by name Ross Ulbricht was arrested.
  • October 31st- Bitcoin Whitepaper Day(2008)
  • November 1st- Diffie-Hellman Day
  • December 18th- HODL Day: This is a day used to celebrate the accidental birth of the word HODL by GameKyuubi a member of the Bitcointalk forum... Well I didn't know him, but members who have been on the forum since far back 2013 may have known him..

I hope this Information is helpful..

OP your compilation is interesting, great work. I never knew that Satoshi's birthday was generally known. It is reported that he listed his date of birth as April 5, 1975, on their P2P Foundation profile.

However, most of these events are not generally recognised as special dates by the Bitcoin community. I am aware of the Pizza Day only. You shouldn't also add days to some of these events because they are not recognised by the community.  Adding days to events like MtGox, Silk Road, and Craig Wright's scam doesn't look nice.

Honestly, bitcoin is worth celebrating this way, this days are important to note, considering how far that Bitcoin has gone in granting investors the Freedom that the government and our fiat currency has not been able to give us. As for the OP, kudos for your great work, you have just shared some important information about bitcoin that am not even aware of.

These dates  are very important to note and to me, the only date am familiar with is Bitcoin pizza day, but thank God for this interesting compilation here, my knowledge about bitcoin special dates has Ben widened.

OP nice one, love the compilation I’m sure you did your research before posting this, so I’m assuming all the dates are correct.
If we claim to be bitcoin enthusiasts it’s quite necessary to be knowledgeable enough in almost all aspects of it, in trivia, investment and technical. So thank you for this, I’ll have to copy this and keep in my notes to get acquainted with most of the dates.

Learning has always been a daily routine, meaning we all learn everyday regardless our usual claims to know all. Most of the things you mentioned on this thread was completely unknown to me but am happy because you have just convey a knowledge, nice one op keep it up.

Though I haven't done my research to confirm how authentic your information are but let's me just assume you have done proper research before bringing it here, kudos bro.

Good compilation, OP, of the days generally accepted for recognition. This is my first time hearing of Diffie-Hellman, talk more of knowing a day was actually dedicated to him. I think I still have a lot to learn about the history of cryptography.

However, some days are not meant to be respected. Especially the Craig Wright Day. Craig Wright does not deserve to be recognized IMO.

This is serious, you mean all these dates are being observed by bitcoiners? To the best of knowledge, the days i know that are mostly celebrated by bitcoiners are the Bitcoin genesis block day, silk road day, and bitcoin pizza day. The rest of them is what i haven't really come across when they are being celebrated. As for free Ross Day, does it really need to be continued now that Ross Ulbricht has been released from prison? and again, bitcoin independence day? hmmm, was there any time that bitcoin was in the custody of the government? because talking about independence practically mean freedom from something or someone but bitcoin right from its invention has always been decentralized which means it's in no control of anyone so how then did it have an independence day?

Those are actually notable dates about Bitcoin that is worth knowing as a Bitcoin or crypto enthusiast, and in addition to that, I also thought knowing the important dates through which Bitcoin broke certain price mark, such as when Bitcoin first crosses the $1000 benchmark, when it crossed the $10,000 benchmark and lastly when it crossed the $100,000 benchmark. And according to records, Bitcoin first crossed or hit certain price benchmark. Such as;

When Bitcoin first crossed $1000 on 27th November 2013 when Bitcoin first experience it's Bitcoin halving and got lots of media attention. So that date is really important.

When Bitcoin first crossed $10,000 on November 28, 2017 when the attention of Bitcoin became global and drew in lots of investors into it, which skyrocketed.

When Bitcoin first crossed $100,000 on December 4, 2024 after President Donald Trump won the recent United States of America election, which drove many into investing more in Bitcoin, simply because they knew Donald Trump's administration will offer favourable environment to Bitcoin investors.

Thank you OP for making your research and sharing these important Bitcoin related dates, things like this are good for those who claims to be Bitcoiners to know. Even if you don't know all of them atleast be able to know the important ones like the Bitcoin Transaction day and Bitcoin Pizza day. Although some of the dates are not relevant to us like Craig White and free Ross day but knowing them is still good for reference purposes. Satoshi Nakamoto has built a legacy that will outlive many generations so he is worth celebrating, if we can't celebrate him directly we can mark sone if these dates to remember his legacies and events that are associated with his creation
