Nigeria has a population that is estimated to reach nearly 400 million by 2050 and Africa's greatest economic engine. However, I know this country is more of a consumption driven country than a country focused on production. This is one reason in my mind, that many youths these days prefer online and remote jobs like trading and Bitcoin investment, as long as they can get small change from doing one or two things and then invest or trade, they are okay, but when you tell them to go into agriculture or other areas, they run away. My question now is that, how can this country convert population growth into productivity growth?

The government should start to mitigate naira devaluation. A good economy should not have fiat that will be increasing and decreasing too much in a way that the people in the country will not value their own local currency. They should fight corruption and embezzlement. If they embezzled the money and use it for economic development, it would have been better, but they are stealing the money and taking it to abroad for the betterment of people in abroad. Constant electricity and prepaid meters are necessary. Funding education and researches. Nigerians are talented but no funding. The government officials prefer to embezzle the money instead. But that is not all. The problem lies beyond our government. If something is from abroad, we take it like it is superior. We should start embracing local products. But the products also need not to be inferior. Embrace our culture. Know about neocolonialism and avoid many parts of it. Africans need to be strategically wise. What to be discussed are still more than these.

This is a very nice question just as you said Nigeria is known to be a consumption and this particularly is not the fault of the Citizens, I think the best person to blame in this case is the government, because they are the one that show the Citizens that there's no any hope to turn this country into a productive state, this is not because of anything but because they want to do everything by themselves meaning it is all selfishness, because most of the things you are seeing coming in to the Country or this our big people have hands in all that and they don't want it to be because if they decided to make Nigeria a productive state, definitely it will affect them entirely that is why they decided to lock up and do things when their own favour.

Converting population to productivity in Nigeria is the easiest task to archive if only our leaders could see it as an option but instead of that they never believe in production but only made there attention so myopic that they believes only in what the stand to gain. Taking production paramount, there are some strategic points which is establishment of some government infrastructural facilities that will indirectly engage citizens to enable they become more productive, but instead of focusing attention on such life transforming projects all they do is concentrate on stealing and construction of minor roads when we know roads don't offers job opportunities to citizens instead it becomes a wasted investment that is done at the wrong time. Not that road construction is wrong but should be done maybe after building factories that will provide job opportunities to citizens.

The answer to this question is very simple, because you literally can't blame the common Nigerian youths for choosing online skills rather than going for agriculture, simply because the government have not made agriculture to love attractive for people to wasn't to venture in it, because with the high rate of insecurity in places like Benue State that is known as the food basket of the nation and other places that produces food items in large quantities. I swear if government do not offer permanent solution to the rate of insecurities, in the next 10years, Nigeria will be a more dependent country than we are today. So in a nutshell, the best way to make our youths love agriculture is for the government to provide permanent security all over the country, and ensure that agriculture is made attractive, so that people will be interested to venture in it.

Some people talk say government are not the only problem we have in Nigeria, say citizens are also part of the problem, I no go talk say the citizens no get problem ooo but the government nah the bigger problem way we get, the government officials they always travel outside the country to another country and they are seeing the development in those country but instead of them to also push for such development to take place here, they will send their children down to those country to become citizens there. With such kind of attitude, e show say them no even want make our country look attractive for other foreigners to send their family over here to start life.
Our soil they very good for so many things but even the government are not helping matter to boost agricultural growth, you might think it's a joke but I watch on TV how most of the Hausa farmers are complaining that the government are not meeting to providing them the demanded among of fertilizers and machinery for farming and most of the time, they are suffering to do work manually. So, if our government is fixed, we can convert population growth to productive growth.

This is a very good question and if the Nigerian Government can convert the population growth in productivity it will be better but the blind minded leaders that we have won't look into the growth of Nigeria and rather than their selfish interest, Nigeria is blessed with natural minerals resources but it's not put into good use, they all depend on oil rather than diverting into agriculture to energize the economy, if the government can invest in agriculture then it will strength the economy growth and reduce the hunger in the country, imagine the insecurity in the country won't even allow Farmers to cultivate in peace without terrorist attacking them and that has made farmer scared. Benuue is one of the state that produces large quantity of food for commercial purposes but the government has refused to invest in those areas for massive food production, Nigeria should Begin to pay more attention on agriculture since we are a consumption nation.

There is indeed more to be done by the government of this country to boost productivity growth, but with the way they tax every business ventures and even take huge loans from world banks, there should have been some sectors that should have been developed and running by now, but it's hard to find reasons in the way the funds are spent, because it doesn't reduce unemployment nor reduce hardship of the citizens, but make them pay inflated fees for loans that should be covered, but wasn't in the first place even spent by them.

[/quote] The issue with over population is that it can be a thing of advantage and can also be one worrisome thing for a country depending on how the government treats it. and then, you have to correct that narrative you are already pushing put that people are going into tech just because they are lazy to consider agriculture and all. to get started in the agricultural industry, you need an high level of capital that goes beyond what most youth can afford and without light, good roads and a lot of the other challenges that disturbs youth from going into the agricultural sector, it is completely impossible or rather difficult for an average youth to get into such field. the onion lies in the hands of our government to do the needful by injecting money into the right sectors and engage the active youth in some of those sectors. if they are able to do that, they have achieved two things, they have stopped unemployment and at the same time used the population they have to their advantage.

A realistic program must be taken to turn the population into wealth. This must be done by the government and a master plan must be made for comprehensive development in the education sector across the country. It will be difficult for the government to implement such a huge program alone, so foreign financial assistance is needed. It is possible to gradually turn such a huge population into wealth by conducting work-oriented education programs with the cooperation of donor agencies. If employment opportunities cannot be created in the country, the country's progress can be maintained by exporting manpower to different countries of the world.
Our country has wealth, but there is a lack of technology or technical knowledge to properly utilize the wealth, and due to corruption, it is not possible to adopt a proper action plan. The government needs to take a stand against corruption, only then will it be possible to maintain the balance of wealth with the growth of the population of our country.

For agricultural production, hence is not just for domestic consumption, it's better the government empowers the local farmers into mechanized farming, at least at a large scale. Government should be able to give out soft loans, give out tractors and whole lot more that farmers will be needing, because if you don't produce, you definitely be a consuming nation. If you go through our rural areas, you definitely see peasant farmers without financial capacity to enlarge their farms, so in expanding your farm, you need extra hands, but hence that extra hands is not coming, then production will be in short supply.

Well, everything is in the hands of the government and the youths, if the government don't want to do what is right, the youth will have to stand up against some things just like some Countrie did, I hate to get myself stressed out by thinking for what should be done by the government and what not to be done. Already, they know what is right to do but they are ignorant about it, they like to follow the instruction of their god fathers and have high benefits for the positions they occupy while they feel less for the society. I won't say much but I think the citizens would have to stand up for the change they want.

Yes, you are right. we ain't standing up enough as people who are in dire need of huge developmental change in our economy, security, welfare, healthcare, education and other basic amenities of life because if we do, especially as young people, we would have forced our to do the right things for the wellbeing of our lives and that of our family. We would have device every means democratically possible to make the sit of power uncomfortable for them unless they decide to change their ways for good in a way it positively affects the generality of the citizens and not always about their personal interests. Look at how Daniel Bwala passionately disgraced us international in a reputable platform like AlJazeera thinking it was one of those shows where he would use his seat as the Special Adviser to the President to shine only for him to be embarrassed and disgraced over his inconsistency and political prostitution. If it was in another country, or if I was the president, I would have went ahead to disgrace him more by sacking him from that office of incompetence and lack of conscience.

My question now is that, how can this country convert population growth into productivity growth?
It is simple. Let government officials use public money for the right purpose and not convert it to private bank accounts, they should stop sharing our money but to channel it into building infrastructures that will help industries to grow. Nigeria will never be able to grow in production without power supply. Electricity is key to production and it seem as if the Nigerian government has lost touch of that. The current administration made the power supply a priority in his campaign yet nothing is working on that aspect despite the increased tariff. So electricity is important to production and that is the first step to build the manufacturing industry, without that no production will go on because people can run industry with higher cost from generator.
