Where you are comfortable telling your gambling addiction

The whole point is strange, I don’t understand the whole confession or meeting a specialist that can help handle gambling addiction properly. We all seem to forget how difficult addiction can be and if anyone decides to quit totally depends on a person’s choice of interest not a doctor or priest, personal both options are best. I would first discuss with the doctor because they seem to know best while in terms of advice the priest is also considered helpful.
I understand addicted gamblers need people for advice always either a talking partner when there’s a set appointment but, quitting is not just about therapy section instead the addict in question must work on their personal growth by limiting spending habit when gambling, maintain self discipline also.

I would first discuss with the doctor because they seem to know best while in terms of advice the priest is also considered helpful.

Facing such a problem, the first person that we usually hear about it is my best friend because I can confide in him and then after that I'm sure he will give me good advice to maybe seek professional help because over the years he has proven to be someone who can be relied for some important advice without emotions. After my friend, I will talk to a doctor. Some people have their wife's as their best friends and that strikes two away from the options. The thing is that you just have to be comfortable talking to someone which is much better than trying to keep it to yourself.

First, if I were in that situation, I would likely tell those closest to me about my gambling addiction, those who understand my personality to some degree, opening up to a trusted family member or close friend can provide emotional support and help reduce the feeling of facing the problem alone, the final step is to consult a doctor who specializes in treating gambling addiction. This is necessary because family members are merely a place to confide, nothing more. Conversely, doctors have a better understanding of what needs to be done to overcome the addiction.

There's no option to put down family there. I have never been addicted to gambling but there was a time I was gambling on trades and I was losing back to back because I kept chasing losses to recoup what was lost. It took the intervention of a family member to bring me back to reality and they kept me accountable to ensure I didn't go back immediately after and ensured that I was out of it for sometime after which normalcy and the urgency of trying to win back lost bankroll as much as possible was no longer there.

I have a friend whom I advise so many times to talk to a physician who is an expert in curing addiction, but he says that he can't because he doesn't trust doctors, because he feels that they are prolonging the session so they can extract money from their clients.

He ended up going to a priest to confess his addiction in a confession room and at the same time ask for advice, he reasons that he can easily trust the Priest because they don't charge a fee, you are anonymous to them because there is a curtain to both of you, and Priest are men of God and they study to give good advice.

I think a fellow gambler will understand and that's probably where I can open up if I'm something on that level. It's not that bad to ask for some professional advice and having said it to a priest was probably genius considering they got some wisdom that they can probably share and yeah that probably saves some money too. Gambler to gambler interaction is probably honest but what could go wrong is probably if they still urge you to gamble at the end or they may not have some good advice.

They're different between priest and doctors, but the two are solution to addiction, because doctors will give you advice so that you will not be addicted, why priest will give you same advice, they're some people who believe on a priest more than doctors m, i believe that for someone to be free or out from addiction,  it will be base on decision and determination, I have see some people condemning going to a priest, why priest can pray out the spirit that causes a gambler to be addicted without seeing a doctor, everything work by faith and believe, addiction in a gambling can be controlled if you have a shift of environment,  not only medical wise can make someone not to be addicted

I think that to get completely rid of gambling addiction, first of all, a gambler has to repent from his heart and admit that everything he did was wrong. When a gambler tries hard to get better from his heart and learns from his previous mistakes and does not make the same mistakes again, then that gambler can gradually get better. Just talking about gambling addiction does not help, so proper advice or guidance is very important. I think a gambler's main goal is to get better. It doesn't matter whose advice he gets better through, he can let whoever he trusts do it to get better. However, you must be careful to ensure that all the advice given to the gambler is reasonable. If the advice is not reasonable or if it is some kind of miracle advice, then the gambler has to be convinced that the person through whom he is taking advice is completely wrong, this is not possible to get rid of gambling addiction.

If he was hiding his gambling activity from the beginning, he will definitely feel hard to tell about it to be a pathologic behavior later. People who can confess to their partners are people who have been honest telling about everything and not shaming to hide what they practice. You know gambling is always related to social stigma and the majority of gamblers are hiding.

We can remember how many ruined their lives because of gambling addiction, when they could save their family stability by sharing their problems with their partners who are supposed to help him recover. Behavioral addiction always leads the person to be a dishonest liar living in a total deny about the fact that he is in damaging illness.

Specially, I would choose to go to doctors who specialize in addiction treatment instead of going to priests, because doctors study addiction treatment more deeply. Priests usually give advice on many different areas but doctors who are experienced in treating addiction focus more on how addiction can actually be cured. Because of this, it seems more reasonable that the treatment given by addiction specialists can help a person who is struggling with addiction move toward recovery more quickly.

The fee that experienced doctors charge for addiction treatment is not too high, so there is really no need to worry so much about paying such a small amount. I believe that experienced doctors are the ones who can provide the right guidance and proper ways for someone to come out of addiction. They have spent a lot of time studying human psychology and an experienced doctor understands better how people who are struggling with addiction can be helped to break free from it and return to a healthier life.

Scientifically doctor are the most appropriate person to treat you of gambling addiction disorders, this is proven and a lot of patient have got cured from medical helps, but priest on the other hand can only give you valuable advice which you will need to work on to overcome your addiction, so for sure both can help but medical help is more direct and specific in this case and I will prefer and recommend it.

And also those whose significant other is not judgmental, if you are with someone and you know that when you tell them about your issue they’ll be signs of you being judged by it, even if they later provide solutions or help you figure out how to go about it, you might be reluctant to approach a person.

I think everyone in the list of options would have nothing better to offer other than an advice, maybe a routine strategy to wean yourself off the addiction, but other fellow gamblers would tell you exactly how it is, mostly those who were once addicted and had to overcome it at some point.
That's why experience is the best teacher where medicine fails and God requires you to use the power of your choice and decision making, to overcome the habit.

Usually, i always talk about it after experiencing a big loss, which may be based on ego and greed during a gambling session. At this moment, i need someone to talk to. Usually, there are several people and they are all good friends who also have a gambling addiction. It may sound silly, but only they understand how i feel at that moment. feelings of devastation due to an unacceptable loss. Perhaps because they have been in that phase many times before, their feelings are more sensitive. Their advice is not to stop gambling immediately, but rather to be more mindful of gambling budget rules to stay in control, keeping the money in a separate and secure place so it won't be used for gambling again.

I am religious enough to finding myself telling a priest about any problem I had with gaming, to be honest.
It would be easier as well, as the priest would not be directly involved in myself in the same manner by wife/girlfriend would be and when comes to fellow gamblers, most of them would not care about it as much I would expect, and I would probably feel ignored by most of them (they would be probably also dealing with their own addiction to gambling anyways).

If things turned to a very bad state, then I would resort to talk about it with my parents and my brother. But it would be one of my last resorts, as I don't want to worry then or make them believe I am completely out of my own control.

And if they are comfortable of telling it to anybody, that won't be their friends or relatives.

Because they're hiding it in the first place so, they would usually tell it to the people that they bump with randomly in the chat boxes or in the forums or life support groups online.

This is where most people get it wrong, they feel more comfortable confining their secret to someone who won't care enough to help them, correct them and ensure they take responsibility. Someone who is addicted to gambling can only get proper help when he or she open up to people who can offer real support, guidance and sometimes professional help.

Keeping your problem secret from the appropriate people will only worsen the addiction, Trust your family members, your close friend, even a doctor, tell them your problem they will help you out with the appropriate guidance and support, Instead of going to a church priest to confess to him that you are addicted to gambling, he  can only tell you mere words and pray for you without providing the solution to your problem.

I didn’t vote because I chose not to share it with anyone. I believe the one who can really help you the most is yourself. No matter how much advice you get from others, it’s useless if you won’t help yourself. But if I were to choose, I’d go with either a doctor, a priest, or my wife. A doctor, of course, no question about it, since it’s their profession. A priest is also likely to be kind, give advice, and not judge you. And lastly, a wife, because she’s your other half.

If there is one person that I can trust without doubt, that would be my wife. She knows I'm into gambling, and whatever problems or frustrations I got from it, she's the first person I get to share with, so if in the future I'll be deeply addicted with gambling (which I think far from reality because I know my limits), then maybe it would still be the same person to share my secret.

But I know we all have different views when it comes to this case. And I won't judge whatever your choices, as long as you know that person is capable enough to find a solution to your problem, or help you dealing with it.

What a crazy story.
It exposes how backwards in thinking some people still are in contemporary times as this where clear differences exist to the functions of the two in the society.

There are those trained professionally to handle addiction problems and by their expertise it makes saving an addict likely possible than a priest that his duties are of spiritual matters can handle. Addiction is a psychological problem and not spiritual.

Is your friend that stingy to have it difficult for him to pay for a counselling session that would save him from his addiction?

I am not addicted to gambling and as long as God keeps me in my right senses, I will never be addicted to gambling, but paradventure for what ever reason, I become a gambling addict, for fun, I will like to dicuss this with a gambling partner, this is if the addiction is within a level I can comfortably manage, I did love to discus and chat with a gambling friend who is partially addicted as I am and we laugh and make jest of each and having fun..

But if the addiction turns out to become something serous which I can't control but must find a way to stop before it destroys me, then I will definitely trust anybody to help, whether it be a priest, or a therapist, a doctor, a teacher, could even be my wife, kid parents, just whosoever shows concern and I see genuiness in their attitude towards me to help, I will trust the person..
It is important to that whenever we find ourself in any kind of deep shit we can't help ourself out from, help can come from anywhere and from just about any body, so being open minded can really go a long way.
