Mark Metson, known as MarkM/Knotwork on the forum, has passed away

MarkM, a member of the forum since 2011 and regular contributor, has passed away as of the end of December 2025.

MarkM was a regular contributor in the Altcoins section, most well known for his posts about his Galactic Milieu interconnected series of games, all of which used various cryptos as part of the economic part of the simulation. He also had a hand in many other projects, such as DeVCoin, I0coin, and others. Off the forum, he was the owner of Digitalis, a software and services company since 1980.

Though I personally had only spoken to him briefly on a handful of occasions off forum, he was always very enthusiastic to share his knowledge, and had a strong vision of where he wanted to take crypto in his personal part of the internet.

I do not know this user at all. From his profile he has been a member of the forum since 2011. If truly he is late, may his soul rest in peace.

This is an appreciation post for his endless contribution in the forum. Over to the DT'S to do the needful on his account, once his death has been confirmed.

What a sad announcement.  Looking back at my conversations with markm between 2012-2025 it is clear that he was a competent developer with a real concern for security and fairness.  We had discussed partnering up on a project long ago and his technical assistance and advice was appreciated.  He was a good user here and from what I can tell a good human being.  RIP markm.

MarkM was one of the more intelligent members of the forum, which is saying a lot because this forum attracts some pretty brilliant minds. He had a huge brain and had been working on the same crypto-based game (Galactic Milieu) for over a decade! It was complicated but also interesting AF. Whenever I was in discussion with Mark about something, I usually just had to pretend I knew what he was talking about after a certain point, as he was so smart it was hard to keep up with him.

Mark was one of the more interesting (yet lesser known) individuals this forum was lucky enough to have attracted.

It might be because the announcement came from a family member in a shared Facebook group we were in. I hadn't logged into social media for a while, and just saw it today, unfortunately.

Oh! This forum actually housed many smart individuals that I didn't get to know. It seems that I arrived the party late. All the same, I am happy I found a forum like this and in my little space, I'm doing something I could be remembered for when I pass.

That's very unfortunate. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
Perhaps the admins or the mods could add to his profile one last form of respect, like they have done for other profiles of respected members who have passed on.

This can help avoid someone trying to take advantage of his account in the future.

This is the first time that I am hearing about MarkM. They way you people prescribed his contribution on this forum, he is a very useful and knowledgeable forum member. I was not on this forum when he was posting but I will say his work will forever be remembered by some members of this forum.

Since I'm not into alts or gaming, I didn't interact with MarkM, but it sounds like losing him is a loss to the forum.

They say the good ones leave first, and MarkM clearly confirms that. I didn't have the opportunity to communicate with him (as far as I remember), but from what other members write, he was great at what he did and will be missed by many.

I never had any interactions with Mark, at least not any i can remember. But i just ran through the last page of his post history and it is obvious he was very knowledgeable when it came to his interest. I am so sure he would be missed, especially by those who share the same interests as him in the forum. Rest in peace Mark, sending love to everyone in your family.

I have never known him but it's always sad to hear that someone passed away. Especially MarkM is a great person according to information given in above posts.

It's sad moment to add someone to this Bitcointalk's Hall of fame but time flies and life is never easy for all of us.

I didn't know who MarkM was until now. It's sad that our area of interest never intersected throughout the years he spent in here. Read through his post history, user was 'top' with a great mind and vast knowledge, yet stayed so low like he almost never existed. Friends, family, relatives, BTT, everyone's hurt. We'll always remember you, fondly of course!

Yet another asset of the platform passes on. My sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of Mr. Mark.
I have not really had any contact with him, but from the looks, he is a great developer who is willing and ready to take blockchain to the next level of development within his capacity. We are going to miss him for his good works, though.
