What are moderators and do they get paid? How do moderators work? Who holds moderators accountable? Is there a link on the forum that explains this? How can I become a moderator? I am a new member and I think it would be cool to be a moderator one day. I have no idea if this is the right board. Thanks for your help.

Yes, they do get paid .
I don't know exactly how much , but it is based on their activity. I saw some moderators talking about it in the past.
Paying is important to incentive people to work.
To become a moderator a good start would be to get active and report theodt posts you can in a board where moderation is needed. Usually board with lots of spam

Yes, just like what EFS said, Theymos pick moderators. We get paid but that's not guaranteed, we are volunteers and not employees.
Regarding the question on how to be a moderator: There will only be one moderator.
Report history is the most important consideration for a moderator candidate. Over the forum's many years, relatively "newbie" members with good report histories have consistently done much better as mods than veteran, well-respected members with poor report histories. That said, not all reports are equal, so a simple report count doesn't tell the whole story. Also, in addition to report histories, it's necessary to consider factors such as the ability of the candidate to be neutral, their trustworthiness, etc. It's also nice to choose a moderator who people generally already trust/respect, but sometimes this is outweighed by other factors.
If a poll is created, I will not completely ignore the results, but I will also not use it as a primary influence. I'm more interested in arguments people have for or against certain candidates.
Old era, not sure if this still works though, Q: Where can I find all the moderators/staff/administrators?A: Just go to the Member search page ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=mlist;sa=search), untick all the boxes and then tick "Search by position". To find all regular moderators like board moderators, local moderators or patrollers (site-wide newbie moderators), search for " Staff" (without the quotation marks). To find all global moderators, search for " Global Moderator". To find all admins, search for " Administrator".

theymos talked about that years ago. Each moderator has a Bitcoin address in their account profile. I believe theymos has posted the info before in previous years and I think somebody else requested it (maybe redsn0w) within the last year or so (and I think theymos may have said he will release it once all the accounting is done (though don't quote me on that)). I also would like to know how much the forum takes in and actually profits on.
hilariousetc talked about this thread Question about forum finances (again, 2017).

Sorry to be the party pooper here, but why do you care and ask such questions? You barely joined the forum, yet, you're interested in knowing whether moderators are paid or not, a question which I, who's over 10 years on the forum and actually didn't know that because it's none of my concern. However, you show up with a username "Officialmoderator", which is quite ironic and could perhaps be considered as imposting.

Isn't it obvious as to why he cares? His nick says Officialmoderator and probably he's thinking to apply but was smart enough to not just go ahead and start campaigning for a slot, instead he chose to ask questions . We see many funny characters here and although it's not wrong to ask such a question since if I'm being honest, I wasn't aware mods get paid. Thought it was a voluntary job. Still, coming from someone who is new it's something that would raise eyebrows. Lolz at least it's a step up from "how can I get merits".

Everyone have what they are after if his is becoming moderator then it can go for it (if it’s still possible to be one though ). But it won’t be easy cause he or she will have to build their account and a good reputation for themselves first , through being active , reporting and stuff . There are always funny questions whenever a newbie come to the forum , especially when it’s involving merit .

What are moderators and do they get paid? Yes, they have been receiving rewards/salary for moderating forum. How do moderators work? A few moderators have been managing specific boards or sections. There are global moderators as well who have been moderating all the boards. Basically they have been helping to moderate spams and keep this forum clean, banning and helping users once they have faced any issues. Who holds moderators accountable? Is there a link on the forum that explains this? How can I become a moderator? I am a new member and I think it would be cool to be a moderator one day. I have no idea if this is the right board. Thanks for your help.
Any established, trusted and honest user that active last six months could apply for moderator. You should have a valid reason to get a moderator job. You have to apply directly to the forum admin by specifying your board or section. If admin thinks you are fit for moderator and there is a real necessity to assign a moderator, then admin would assign you. There is no other special criteria, but really depends on demand. I have talked with theymos regarding that and know about this. I can't quote without his permission since it's talk through forum PM.

I did not know anything about this matter before and I had never even thought about it, but when I saw this question, I was a bit surprised. After that, I tried to check if anyone had made a post like this in the past to become a moderator. While searching, I later saw that a well-known person (Mia Chloe) from Nigeria once created a post on the Meta board asking to become a moderator. But in the end, he was not given the moderator position and the board was given to Mitchell as the moderator. Application for a moderator on the beginners and help board: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5554520.0Hey officialmoderator: I can see that you are a new person on this forum. I don’t really know the reason why you are asking this, but you have the right to ask and know about it, so there is nothing much to say about that. However, I have one important message for you, since you are new on the forum, instead of thinking about things like this, try to focus on doing something good and contributing positively.

You need to build a reputation that can make people trust you with that kind of job but still, building a good reputation and rank doesn't determine that you might get picked for it. I remember one time when Mia applied for the position, not like he wasn't fit for the job but still I feel there was and still is a criteria to met before you can get considered. Also, she tried applying for a spot that was sort of occupied.

Your questions made me curious about your intentions here. A newbie who has his or first post centered on moderators and their pay speaks of volume which I am trying to get a clear understanding of your intentions. Anyways, I will advise you to take your time to study the platform before talking about such because that is just a secondary matter you should be talking about for the time being. I was expecting you to ask questions on how to learn about the platform and to add more knowledge to yourself about bitcoin and this platform and not this thread you have created here.

It would be cool actually, with another title badge on your profile but that won't be so easy. AFAIK the last staff/mod that was added to the list was igebotz and OmegaStarScream. If you will check their profile they are members who was here for several years already and also Legendary rank. What's good on you is your username only, you should work with your rank, posts quality as your contribution, reputation and not to mention, your number of reports.

I'm shocked with your response, to be honest. Must everyone think like you? If you are here 10 years and someone is here in just a day, can't the person ask the question you haven't asked, just because you are not interested? Curiosity in us varies, and your priorities might not be another person's priorities. Besides, different users open their accounts for different reasons. And if his sole purpose is to secure a moderator's job effortlessly, he will naturally fail. Regardless, this is still within his right to ask.

Your post doesn't make much sense tbh. First you are asking about what moderators are and what exactly they do, and then you go on about how you would like to become one in the future. Make it make sense, if you don't know what they do, why do you want to become one?

All this is good, democracy, oh yes of course, but one user will always have different goals from another. And if you were attentive to reading this topic, then you could read a post that is slightly higher than yours that this topic was created by a troll, and responding to him, especially defending him, is just wasting time. Therefore, your attacks on Ultegra134 are groundless, and it is high time to close this topic as irrelevant. Yes, some people had the opportunity to become moderators, but they refused, because not everyone dreams of it, because it's not just a title, but also a responsibility.

That's outrageous, so out of place, to say the least, and it even shows you are biased here. Attack, for what? I saw someone trying to suppress a voice, and I talked. How is that an attack? An expression like mine doesn't look like an attack to me, except you have your other reasons for saying so. Besides, you are only trying to change the narrative entirely because Ultegra134's post never reflected addressing a troll.

Who holds moderators accountable?
Thermos holds the moderators accountable. If they mess up in their moderation duties, he will throw water on them. If he has to do this enough times, and does not see improvement, he will eventually promote them to customer/regular form member.
