I don't agree with this post at all. You took advice that is well intended for other aspects of life and then applied it to something that is not appropriate at all. Sure one can take good chances as they come, but gambling is not it. You are creating unnecessary risk in something that comes with expected losses. When you gamble it is expected that you eventually lose all your money, so what are you taking a chance on? The chance that you will be the lucky lottery winner? If that is the case so you might as well put all your money down to buy lottery tickets, it is not much different than what you are proposing here. Gambling should be about entertainment, having fun within a reasonable budget. It is not about hoping for any kind of favorable outcomes or profit. That's the point. When someone is getting trapped in their comfort zone, it has same meant they getting trapped in a cage. They have no way to improve their live, and feel fear to leave from their comfort zone. This is the reason why many saw gambling as an opportunity.

Well said, but you'll also agree with me that Russia with taking are calculated risks and not just a risk of pure uncertainty like that of gambling. I can apply your principle in my career and still be comfortable that I'm doing the right thing but not gambling.

A person that fears losses so badly should have no reason gambling. Losses is an unavoidable part of gambling, so it is either you accept this sad reality and approach gambling with discipline or you avoid gambling completely.

In taking risk, there is what is called a calculated risk and even when you are taking a calculated risk, you have to ensure that it is well defined such that the number of times and the closeness of the time between when you take such risk is well defined. you have to note that there are risk that are worth taking and others that are not worth a try. if you can not differentiate the two then you end up taking a risk just because of an anticipated outcome and then it hurts you really bad.

If that is so then why don't you spend all your money buying lottery tickets? There is a big contradiction in this whole thread, he brought good advice from other areas of life and then tried to apply it to an area where it should not be done. If one is smart about the risks they take, they will never take big risks with gambling as they have enough knowledge about the way that gambling makes. And you didnt complete the last part which is that refusing to take chances is the greatest gamble which unfortunately no one ever wins, this type of gamble will always bring the gambler to failure and loss of possibly life changing opportunities that might just be lurking around waiting for the one who takes that bold step to grab it and enjoy the outcome..

Overall, all that you've said is the absolute truth, I believe we all are familiar with the popular saying that lack of preparation on or for something is preparation to fail in that thing, what this mean is that a man is never really ideal in life, you are either busy preparing to succeed or not busy/idle preparing to fail.

Playing it safe is something that is very subjective and I wouldn't trust someone using this term when gambling that much.

What does it mean to play it safe? Are you budgeting your gambling spend?
If I was budgeting the spending I wouldn't mind about the odds.

But if I play so called "safe bets" but spend unlimited money then there's also chances to lose unlimited money however small the chances to lose.
