We all know that he is really a lucky bastard, but really stupid to be looking at the short term. He didn't make sure he had enough, and most of the members here agree that it's financial illiteracy that led him to return to a low income.

I have read somewhere that when a person experiences a sudden wealth spike, it becomes hard to decide what to do with it. It becomes a paralysis, and they don't know what to do next. Some are going to be on the verge of thinking finally I reached it, and I can buy all the luxury goods that I want, not really thinking about their future and how they can secure it.

"Stupid". It's the most suitable word to explain him Being a millionaire should give you lots of ways to make money. One of the best way is just put your money into the obligation, bluechip stock or something else. So he get dividen that you can use it to gamble again without even using your prize money.

However, this also proves that the way uneducated people use the money is far from being effective. But i can understand it when someone who has nothing becomes millionaire. He's just becoming a greediness that spent his money carelessly coz he's losing control over himself.

I think situations like this show that winning big in gambling doesn’t automatically guarantee long tterm financial security. Many people focus on the excitement of hitting a jackpot but underestimate how important discipline and money management are after the win. Well, people who like the lottery are not true gamblers... It's just a lottery. And I am not sure this guy spent his lottery winnings on "gambling", or if he simply wanted to try a luxurious way of life.

In any case, $12.7 millions in 8 years is a little over $1.5 millions per year, and that's over $100k per month... I guess he had the best time in his life during those 8 years. His life, his decisions.

I don't have any reason to feel malice for such a guy that blew his life changing wins in luxury lifestyle and later went back to what he's actually good at which is a garbage man. I actually feel pity for him because I'm sure that he has enough regrets for blowing up his one chance to make himself and his generations very rich. He'll probably be using his garage earnings to be chasing loses until he becomes addicted because that jackpot might not come his way again for the rest of his life. His misfortune should be a lesson for all of us that huge money doesn't last forever unless you learn to invest it wisely and the huge returns will be sustaining you.

They can easily forgot everything including their poor origin and proceed to extravagant living because they are too excited and happy to the change of life due to money.

They say opportunity comes one’s, especially this kind of opportunities, when you win huge amount of money from gambling and you lavish the money I don’t think you will be able to win such amount of money again, I know of someone in my town, he won huge amount of money in gambling and he lavish the money, when the money got finished he started gambling seriously believing he can win such money again and till date he has not and his now addicted to gambling. When you win huge amount of money from gambling what you should do is to invest that money on a business so you can be making money from that business and you won’t have to be broke ever again.

Honestly, I don't understand why some people blame gambling. I say this for the following reason: most people know very well that having a probability of something happening doesn't mean it will happen. So, when faced with an event that, despite having a higher probability of occurring, you still shouldn't be 100% confident to the point of betting a lot of money.

On the contrary, you should bet a small amount of money to have more rounds of gambling without financial damage in the real world. I think there is a very big chance of the scenario in the OP happening to a lot of gamblers. I am
thinking this because a lot of people wouldnt be used to owning million's of dollars and potentially
lack the financial knowledge to make the correct decisions to preserve their wealth.

I dont have anything negative to say against those types of gamblers because as above they just
dont have the proper education and knowledge to deal with mega winnings.

In my country for example after someone wins the lottery they receive advice and education on how

When I read these stories or even as in my case I have known people who have won a lot of money but have not been able to manage it I get angry.
I'm not looking for a million-dollar win like this guy, but if I were to win that amount one day, I already know how to distribute the win exactly as a percentage and based on what I could potentially win.
The minimum I need to change my life is $200,000, but if I were to win $1 million then everything changes.
I would continue working (without stress) I wouldn't buy cars or a house, I would simply enjoy a peaceful life, living simple things.

There is a high chance for people that win big to lose their wins at some point due to the high level of greed that comes with it. I don't feel malice against such gamblers.

I would say that I feel sorry for such people. Unhappy people lack the understanding that luck does not come by invitation, and those who win are most often people who do not expect it. Those winners who win the jackpot are random people; I will not argue that there may be those among them who stubbornly went to victory. However, there are very few such lucky ones. You have to accept that you may be lucky, but such an event will be unexpected, and if you are destined to have a lot of money, then this is a test that not everyone is ready for, and probably not everyone will be able to withstand it. We see those who lose large sums wanting to win again, eventually losing everything. There's this saying that opportunities comes to those that embrace it and the moment you miss the opportunity it might be hard for you to get such chances again. When you go in with the wrong mindsets and expectations you'll undergo unexpected results, often times I've been able to understand that when you chase profits usually in gambling there's more percentage that  you'll end up in loses.

The guy is not even remorseful because he claims to have enjoyed what he has done with his fortune; of course, these are just words; when he badly needs money, he will think about all the money he wasted.

Hitting the jackpot (a huge amount of money) can radically change your life if don't squander the prize money foolishly, but rather invest it wisely (in securities, currencies, businesses - anything but entertainment and luxury). I think their typical mistake is extravagance - spending the prize money left and right, believing it will never run out.

The thing is, this guy always remained a garbage man (no offense), even when he won the jackpot (a garbage man, but with a lot of money). It's no surprise that after a life of luxury, he returned to his old attitude. My point is that he didn't change mentally, which he should have done to be able to hold on to that big money.

A bit off-topic: millionaires are almost indistinguishable from you and me (technically): they're the same people, the same arms, legs, and minds, and so on. But they have a different attitude toward money. This garbage man (like many other lucky people) failed to change their "perception" of money after winning. That's where, I think, the weak point lies.
