♦ 8 B I T ♦v2.1.0 — Scrypt PoW+PoS — MasternodesRelaunched. Rebuilt. Reborn.▶ https://8bit.a-zz.com ◀━━━ What Is This? ━━━8BIT has been relaunched from the existing chain at block 1,546,913. This is not a new coin. This is not a fork. This is the original 8BIT — the retro gaming meme coin from 2014 — brought back from the dead. The protocol has been upgraded to v60030, the codebase has been modernized, and the network is live. All existing balances on-chain prior to the relaunch block remain fully intact. If you held 8BIT before, your coins are still there waiting for you. ━━━ Why Did 8BIT Need a Relaunch? ━━━Anyone who followed the original thread knows the story. From 30+ pages of community history: - Broken Windows wallet — couldn't sync from at least Oct 2017 onward. Dead Dropbox download links. Excessive RAM usage and crashes. Users were told "this is a Linux coin."
- 30–45 day sync times — bootstraps buried in forum comments, not on any official site.
- Chain forking and ultimate freeze — chain froze at block ~2,220,900 (April 2020). Nodes at wildly different heights. Massive orphan blocks.
- Developer abandonment (3 times) — original dev vanished 2015. "8-bit-Party" promised a Q1 2018 wallet and never delivered. brakmic maintained the code but gave up citing no community support.
- Dead infrastructure — explorer down, website links broken, no working bootstrap.
- Masternode dysfunction — masternode.conf was dead code in the repo. Rewards not paying for weeks. Collateral was only 112 8BIT.
- "Frightening" codebase — pre-2015 modules, LevelDB from 2011, IRC networking, copy-paste code.
- Community down to ~5 people by 2020.
Every single one of these problems has been addressed. ━━━ What Has Been Done ━━━✔ Chain relaunched at block 1,546,913 — all existing balances preserved ✔ Windows Qt wallet built & released — fully static .exe, no dependencies. Years of "Windows wallet is broken" resolved. ✔ Linux static daemon built — runs on any modern distro with zero dependency hell ✔ Bootstrap chainstate packaged — instant sync, no more 30–45 day waits ✔ Chain fork resolved — clean chain with hardened checkpoints, no more competing forks ✔ Codebase modernized — OpenSSL 3.0, Boost 1.83, Qt 5.15, compiles with GCC 13 ✔ Hybrid PoW + PoS consensus re-enabled permanently ✔ 4-phase PoW emission schedule for fair distribution ✔ Masternode collateral raised to 10,000 8BIT — meaningful economic commitment ✔ Protocol upgraded to v60030; old masternode list flushed ✔ Seed node deployed — network is alive and reachable ✔ Resource page launched with downloads, SHA256 checksums, and quick start guide ✔ Source code published with build instructions for Linux & Windows ━━━ Specifications ━━━| Algorithm | Scrypt | | Consensus | Hybrid PoW + PoS | | Block Time | ~60 seconds | | Protocol | v60030 | | Relaunch Block | 1,546,913 | | Pre-existing Supply | ~1,943,868 8BIT | | Relaunch Premine | 1,000,000 8BIT | | PoS Block Reward | 5 8BIT (flat) | | Masternode Collateral | 10,000 8BIT | | MN Share (PoW) | 40% | | MN Share (PoS) | 60% | | P2P Port | 18888 | | RPC Port | 18889 | ━━━ PoW Emission Schedule ━━━| Phase | Block Range | Reward | Duration | Total Coins | | Phase 1 | 1,546,913 – 1,596,913 | 50 8BIT | ~37 days | 2,500,000 | | Phase 2 | 1,596,913 – 1,696,913 | 25 8BIT | ~74 days | 2,500,000 | | Phase 3 | 1,696,913 – 1,896,913 | 10 8BIT | ~148 days | 2,000,000 | | Phase 4 | 1,896,913+ | 2 8BIT | Permanent | Tail emission |
We are currently in Phase 1 — the highest reward phase. Early miners get 50 8BIT per block. ━━━ Downloads ━━━Everything you need is on the resource page: ▶ https://8bit.a-zz.com- Windows x64 Package — Qt GUI wallet + daemon (fully static, no dependencies)
- Linux x86_64 Static Daemon — runs on any modern distro
- Bootstrap Chainstate — instant sync, no waiting
- Source Code — full source with build instructions
All downloads include SHA256 checksums on the site. ━━━ Quick Start ━━━Windows:[list=1] - Download the Windows x64 Package from 8bit.a-zz.com
- Extract the zip
- Run 8bit-qt.exe for the GUI wallet, or 8bitd.exe for the daemon
- (Optional) Extract the bootstrap into %APPDATA%\8bit\ for instant sync
Linux:[list=1] - Download the static daemon and bootstrap from 8bit.a-zz.com
- Extract bootstrap: mkdir -p ~/.8bit && tar xzf 8bit-bootstrap.tar.gz -C ~/.8bit/
- Extract daemon: tar xzf 8bitd-linux-x86_64-static.tar.gz
- Configure ~/.8bit/8bit.conf with rpcuser/rpcpassword
- Run: 8bitd
━━━ World Map (Roadmap) ━━━Level 1 — "Spawn Point" (Complete)Everything listed above under "What Has Been Done." The chain is live, wallets work on Windows and Linux, sync is instant with the bootstrap, the codebase is modern, and the network is reachable. Level 2 — "The Overworld" (In Progress)- Block explorer deployment
- Additional seed nodes for network resilience
- Community Discord & Telegram
- Faucet for new users
- Exchange listing outreach (DEX and CEX)
- CoinMarketCap / CoinGecko listing applications
- Scrypt mining pool setup
Level 3 — "The Final Boss" (Long-term Vision)- Mobile wallet (Android / iOS)
- Retro arcade gaming integration — on-chain achievements, 8BIT as in-game currency
- Hardware wallet support (Trezor — SLIP44 already reserved)
- Governance system for community-driven development
- Cross-chain bridge integration
- Bounty program for community contributions
━━━ Links ━━━Website & Downloads: https://8bitlegacy.xyzOriginal Thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1028119.0━━━ A Note to the OG Community ━━━If you were one of the five people still checking this thread in 2020, this is for you. If you mined 8BIT back in 2014 and forgot about it, your coins are still on-chain. If you spent years asking for a working Windows wallet, it's here now. This isn't a promise of a future wallet that never ships. The work is already done. The binaries are compiled, the chain is running, the site is live. Download it, sync it, and see for yourself. Could you let me know if your browser gave you that warning or was it a threat detection website? If it was your browser, could you please share what browser you are using? Thanks

Both Google Chrome and Firefox browsers issued warnings that downloaded files were automatically deleted by Microsoft Defender.

False positives. I submitted reports to google but the clear path may be a new domain (xyz is hated by google).

Website migrated and files moved. Ill setup a github for the releases, thats whats causing the blacklist- Defender is reporting malicious files (False positives). If it comes from github, we should be fine.
OP Updated. Is anyone interested in maintaining a seednode?

8BIT added to https://luckydogpool.com/stratum+tcp://stratum.luckydogpool.com:7118 C=E8BIT (For some weird reason Yiimp doesn't like coin ticker starting with a number, so it's E8BIT just for display reasons, doesn't affect anything) Happy mining!

Sweet, thanks! To all of those not mining- feel free to get involved here, currently very low network hashrate and the coin supports PoS AND Masternodes! Get your bag while the hashrate is low!

The sync rate is like a snail, going uphill, against the wind! 9 hours after the bootstrap and it still is 22 hours behind. What's the holdup? Plus, only 1 peer. addnode=204.10.108.182 addnode=198.48.239.248

Ill see what I can do to speed things up and add some more peers. Found one peer to add, added it. Try syncing by just running the daemon and not the gui wallet.

The repo and the website list different port numbers than the wallet's info page... What is it? 18888 or 15714? From the peer list it is 18888. And yet the UDP is listening to 18887. I'm confused. Maybe fix a few things to say the same stuff : After reading the debug log it said I was in sync at 1am, but now it is behind... compare my latest block hash with yours. hopefully it didn't fork! 1561643 0720d6e077b7386389797252db7913f74981d68825f01970fe44ed0ca4f4f6ce Is it the same as everyone else? It is the same as Lucky's pool... so it should be correct.

It is the same as Lucky's pool... so it should be correct. Ports have been standardized, the original codebase was quite confusing when it came to ports. Due to the nature of the PoS implimentation adding a header-first sync to the codebase would be quite complex and I just dont see the community interest at this time to do this. Doing so would increase block-sync times about 5-10x. I did however impliment batched block sending and receiving instead of single blocks per peer-handshake. This has netted us around a 2x better sync rate but will still be miserably slow as the blockchain grows. This codebase was never designed to originally to last this long it seems. We will see how things go with the new changes. Report back after attempting a sync.

251 blocks for maturity??? That is hella long time! 25 is all that is needed. And why no MNs? There are 3,557,357 coins already. Only 10k for MN fee. With 1,943,868 from old chain and 1,000,000 in pre-mine for continuation, you'd think there were enough to make at least 1 MN.(613,489 new coins floating around) Why hasn't the dev made an MN to help stabilize the chain? Is the explorer close to being made?
I still only have 1 peer listed. Seems like networking is a little broken as I know 2 others are online and they never connect to my wallet, and vice versa.
By the way, where are the MN steps? This wallet doesn't even generate its own 8bit.conf file let alone a masternode.conf file.
And it isn't a newer MN style with BLS commands... so it must be the oldschool style with masternode.conf.

Bro. Why are you not here posting the updates to the Daemon? v2.1.2 8bitd.exe is now available (no-gui)
It would be nice to have a 8bit-cli.exe created. No point in running a daemon with no terminal access to it.......

Doing a dive into the source I find the MN port to be 9999. If anyone was looking to start their masternode, you need to send 10,000 to a wallet(label it MN1 for simplicity), wait 15 blocks for confirmation, type: 'masternode outputs' in the debug to get the tx_id and output_index. Grab the privkey for that MN1 address (in debug type: dumpprivkey 8xxxxxxxxx) Create a masternode.conf file with the following setup: MN1 IP:9999 masternodeprivkey tx_id output_index In your newly created 8bit.conf file (since for some gay reason the wallet doesn't create one on default) you need to add a few lines rpcuser=8bitUSER rpcpassword=passwd rpcport=18889 rpcallowip=127.0.0.1 port=18888 #reservebalance=1 banscore=999999 upnp=1 listen=1 server=1 daemon=1 staking=1 logtimestamps=1 masternode=1 masternodeaddr=IP:9999 masternodeprivkey=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx addnode=204.10.108.182 addnode=207.219.125.52 addnode=91.11.218.169 addnode=198.48.239.248 Glad all the details are clearly available online

I have done alot so far to support this currency. If you would like to assist me, I would be more then happy to accept that help. I will make sure there is a new release.

Not only a new released win32 version, but also details on how to get the masternode to work. Who's code was this cloned from? Why do I only see 1 peer?

Hey, love this relaunch project !!
But to encourage engagement we need more peers. I had just one, despite adding every node I could see on this forum. Bootstrapped but still took about 30 hours to sync the final 14 days.
Maybe when explorer launches this quarter, people can add peers from there.
Good work though
