Our very own Nonito Donaire is scheduled this weekend to fight Riku Masuda for a WBA bantamweight title elimanator, meaning whoever will win this matchup will have a crack at the champion which is held currently by Tsutsumi.

This is another fight between a veteran and a youth which is an uphill battle for the 43 year old Nonito Donaire. Riku Masuda has a record of 9-1 with 8 knockout victories which means that this Japanese boxer is a no joke.

Per betting odds, Nonito is the underdog of this fight which means that those fans of Nonito could win big if will bet for him this weekend.

Your thought guys.

Glad to see that Nonito will have a chance again to fight for the title, but it's interesting that if he will win here, he will have to fight for the belt holder, - Tsutsumi. Who he just lost last December in a split decision. And so this will be like a revenge for Donaire, but he has to go over Masuda first. And base on the last fight, not sure if Donaire still has the hungry and fire in his belly or it's just that age is catching up with him as his timing is off and that left hook power and speed is not there anymore. And we could understand why he is the underdog here against a young fighter. But in any case, others that have followed Donaire's career might still support their man in this fight.

In comparison:

Experience goes to the Filipino Flash, but it looks like Masuda is a power puncher with almost 90% of his fight ending in a knockout. So that is something that Donaire will have to look at. If he can forced Masuda to go and fight into the distance and soften him up throughout the fight, then Donaire will have a great chance to pull a upset and win in the judges scorecard. However, we might say that Donaire is obviously not in his prime anymore as he 3 out of the last 4 fights he had.

Donaire is once again expected to be the underdog. Fair enough considering his age, but the last time I saw him fight, which was against Tsutsumi, he still got the composure and the lethal blow. Round 4 could have been the last round had he caught Tsutsumi earlier. But his aggression didn't last. That's probably the disadvantage of old age. The fading rounds were for Tsutsumi.

Masuda is probably an easier opponent. I hope Donaire gets this one for a potential rematch with the current champion. All the best for this fighting legend.

Yes, but before, he had some fights that lasted and so he had a good gas tank. But as he age, it was sure that his stamina is going to be affected just like in the last fight wherein he could have a better chance to win if he had his second wind and not lose on the judges card, but it's a split decision so it could go either way. But having a gas tank could be a ++ for him.

Masuda is probably an easier opponent. I hope Donaire gets this one for a potential rematch with the current champion. All the best for this fighting legend.

But Donaire needs to avoid that power punches and not get knockout as the record of Masuda says it all.

Alright once again another Philippines Pride will have a bout. This is probably a classic match up between veteran and young ones. I cant say this a one sided match already but Donaire experienced says it all. Of course Im a filipino and seeing our countrymen fight with pride will always be our biggest joy. I am bit confident that Donaire has an advantage with this one but for some reason we cant deny that young boxers stepping up already. Riku Masuda has potential here and got strong punches. Still Donaire should not underestimate him and lax so much.

Masuda’s only loss is against the champion Tsutsumi. That gives us a point of comparison. Nonito also lost to Tsutsumi, but it was a split decision. Masuda only had three fights back then, so he could have improved since. I believe this will be a close fight. Despite his age, Donaire is still fighting at a high level and could potentially become a world champion again.

I'm under the impression that Donaire might have retired after that lost against Tsutsumi. But maybe due to the strength of his rankings, he had this chance again. Most likely Masuda have improved a lot since that lost to Tsutsumi.

So all roads to Tsutsumi here. Although I don't believed in triangle theory here, I will give equal opportunity to whoever win in this fight will have a good chance against the champion Tsutsumi.

Seems all road will go on that situation you have mentioned and for Donaire defeating Masuda is stepping stone for him to fight against Tsutsumi.

But this is not an easy challenge because Masuda is still young and more motivated to win after he lose to Tsutsumi.

This fight is total banger since both Masuda and Donaire will provably try to perform well to win in this match. Since for sure that both of them want to get another chance to defeat Tsutsumi on a rematch.

I would still go for Nonito Donaire here, even if he’s already old, maybe I’m just a bit biased. Looking at the record of Riku Masuda he is still inexperienced but he does have a high KO rate. But I don’t think he’s at the same level as Naoya Inoue, and Donaire has already faced fighters like that. If Donaire comes in at a comfortable weight and uses his experience, he could still go for a KO or rely on his quickness to outbox Masuda.

This should be an interesting fight actually, I almost forgot about it already.
