I understand why Donaire is the underdog here. We could base it on their last respective fights and their records, but Donaire still has it; he is a multi-champion, experienced, and he only needs to maximize his conditioning because he is against a tough fighter. If you're a big Donaire fan, this is the fight that's worth supporting and betting for your idol. I will not be surprised if Donaire pulls an upset here; he is still capable of doing that.
An upset is more likely in this match. Though I have never seen this kid fight, some people considered him a rising superstar, but he clearly lacks experience, which is a very important factor when fighting a veteran fighter like Nonito. 8 KOs out of 9 professional fights, sounds like the kid is a serious power puncher. This is what Nonito needs to take note of, engaging toe to toe might not be a good idea for him. He needs to play his cards right and should always be on the safe side. I've seen highlights on YouTube of this Masuda kid, who looks fast and powerful enough to be the favourite, considering he's much younger than Nonito. Can't wait for Sunday!

The odds is still close, Masuda close to 1.5x-1.6x to win, against Donaire who is 2.3x to win.
In the sportsbook I’m checking now, Donaire is at 2.60 while Masuda is around 1.43. The draw is interesting as well at 16.50. The odds per round or method of victory are still not available though, maybe they will add those closer to the fight. Let’s see, probably a day before the fight those markets should already be up. But let's see if there will be swing bet on favor of Donaire as there are a lot of fans here that will support here because we still wanted to see him at least getting his last chance for the belt. And in any case, that underdog odd is already sweet for us so we will take it.
I don’t expect any swing in the odds anymore, so I won’t wait for that before placing my bet on Donaire.

I'm just thinking though, it could be that his resume might not have a good name in them or if he fought just what we can taxi-cab drivers to peddle his records to look like he is a monster as he is knocking out opponents left and right. And so with that, he hasn't fought a caliber boxer like Nonito, who has the experienced and has fought a lot of great boxers in his prime. So still a good bet on Donaire here specially that he is a underdog. But if in any circumstances that this kid is good then Donaire might be in danger to get knockout and this could be his last fight if we see a brutal beating.

People keep bringing up his age but I think Nonito Donaire knows exactly what he’s doing, and he wouldn’t risk his health if he wasn’t prepared for it. Just think about when Manny Pacquiao fought Barrios. Many people were worried Manny might lose because Barrios was much bigger and the champion at that time, but the fight turned out very competitive and Manny even almost won it.
So in this case we shouldn’t worry too much. It’s fine to support Donaire, but we should also believe that he still has the capability to win this fight.
Well if you knew the saying in Love age doesnt matter maybe its also applicable in this scenario. Yes some might be worried cause the age gap between them is 15yrs. Masuda is only 28years old while Donaire is 43yrs old, in perspective younger player are surely strong but in a match like Boxing, we should also favor the experiences of the players. Not saying that Donaire will automatically win but like you said if he preps well for this then victory will be easy. Another solid for Kabayans if ever.

For only having 10 fights, Masuda has fought some decent fighters, including Seiya Tsutsumi, the current champion, in his fourth professional fighters. It still can’t match the experience of Nonito’s illustrious career, but it still counts for something. This is a good step up that will help determine if he really is world champion caliber or just a very good contender.

Exactly, and the only real advantage Riku Masuda has here is that Nonito Donaire is already at the late stage of his career. Even if Donaire still has the skills, if his power and speed have declined then there’s always a big chance the younger fighter could win. But the question is, what if Donaire can still land a big knockout? I wouldn’t doubt him on that. He has done it many times before. So sometimes you just trust your instinct. On paper the younger fighter looks better, and that’s also reflected in the betting odds.

Since it seems that younger Masuda have more chance to win in their match. What Donaire need here is to finish the fight as earl as he can. If he cannot do anything and manage to prolong the fight. Maybe Masuda will take advantage with this situation then manage to succeed winning against him. But well let's see if Donaire will prove us wrong on our doubts and can able to show that he's not done yet on boxing.

Honestly, Donaira is a washed at his current age. This is my reason why i think this matchup is kinda ridiculous you know. Donaire was not as good as he used to be. So i guess he's not match for Masuda who is big and big. Masuda is also having a long range paw too. So his hits can land to his opponent extremely hard.
Importantly, Masuda was often only taken the little damage since his career. So this is my reason Donaire was taking a wrong match up.
That's the reason i think this game is a dangerous fight for Donaire. I'm not underestimating Donaire, but i only said about the fact.

Skill still there, but performance? we've seen its declining this is why its hard to say that Donaire still have great advantage in this match. Since it seems that younger Masuda have more chance to win in their match. Experience is his advantage, but overall the edge probably still goes to his opponent, and that’s likely the reason why he’s the underdog in the betting odds. But for me I’m willing to take that risk. I still trust Nonito Donaire and believe that after his last loss he can bounce back. If he loses again though, this could possibly be his last fight and he might seriously consider retiring.
I don't know much about his opponent but you are right, finish early and Donaire no doubt will win.

We understand that, but you can also say that to Manny Pacquiao, who at age 40 become the oldest welterweight champion by defeating a young and prime Keith Thurman. Definitely, they are different boxers but my point is that there are fighters who can still fought beyond their age and win belts. Importantly, Masuda was often only taken the little damage since his career. So this is my reason Donaire was taking a wrong match up.

I will agree that this is a dangerous fight for Donaire, but even underdogs too win fights. So let's see, it's this weekend already so many Filipino fans are going to be clued on their sit and watch this fight.

I don't know much about his opponent but you are right, finish early and Donaire no doubt will win. Although not impossible, especially with Donaire's power, it must be challenging knowing that he's 43 years old and he's up against a 28-year old. But, yeah, it's probably what Donaire needs because he's fighting in Japan and against a Japanese opponent. If the decision is left to the judges, he might once again complained of how the score cards turn out, just like what happened in his Tsutsumi fight. He couldn't believe he only won 3 rounds in one judge.
