Effects of Gambling in Front of Our Children, What Are We Teaching Them?

I paid a visit to a friend of mine and in the middle of our jokes and conversations, my friend’s son asked me recently whether it was good for him to gamble as he see his dad gambling and I quickly said to him, No. Children are not allowed to gamble ethically, morally, religiously and legally and if any child is caught gambling, he will be punished by law and the punishment can take him to the army’s barracks and I saw him looking at me with a sad face expression and disappointment and not so much fear.

Why did you lied to the child? There are other things that you can tell him that can make him avoid gambling instead of telling him that.

Also did you tell your friend about it? Because it is very important to tell your friend that he should avoid letting his children know that he is gambling.

Gambling is an adult activity but why happens when it is done openly in front of children like my friend does? Whether you see it as a casual game of cards or a trip to the casino, some parents or guardians will not realize the potential long term effects and consequences on their kids. Exposing these kids to such risky behavior can create an unhealthy relationship with money for them and shape their mindset about gambling. It is highly wrong to be gambling in front of children, you should not let them know that you are gambling. That is the best approach about it.

Children will be curious to learn new things in theiur life which is why they want to try everything they see, from their parents, in school or from TV and that is how they should be. It is the responsibility of a parent to not their kids to be exposed to adult activities such as gambling, drugs or whatever and if they gamble in front of their kids then imagine having intercourse while they were watching then I am sure the kid will try to attempt to do the same with someone.

Exposing your children is your responsibility; whatever they see, they will probably emulate. There will be some kind of hypocrisy when you see them do things you don't want them to do, but you do them too; it's definitely a problem for both of you.

What the expected result from this has probably something to do with the mental health of the child, something could develop when they see their parents suffering with losses, and be confused when they win. The bottomline of that is still gambling and it will be a dangerous path to thread to.

It is very wrong allowing our children or teaching them how to gamble in their very tender age perhaps it can cause a whole lot of negative impact on them. Children are very fast in learning especially when it's coming from their parents, however parents are more like a role model to their kid's so the earlier we are more careful on things we display in front of our children the better for us.

Furthermore, gamble is only meant for adults and not for children, so exposing our kids to it is simply jeopardizing and putting their future at risk , if we must discuss or analysis our gambling affairs let it end outside or probably when they (children) aren't around because if we aren't careful enough to the extent of involving our children in gambling what will become of them as a result of your actions is something you can never forget in a hurry.

"Seeing is believing" when you are gambling in front of your children they would definitely learn how to start their own gambling. However, I know that many parents always like to stay with their kids but let it not be when you are doing your gambling activities because it will be very wrong to see that your children learn gambling through your carelessness.

Gambling is purely a risky business that requires knowledge and discipline so we shouldn't let our kids come close to us when doing it because it is gambling irresponsibly that makes many kids to join gambling while they are not yet of gambling age.

Children look up to their parents (or those around them) and imitate them. If gambling is practiced in front of children, they will adopt these habits. It's possible that children can become addicted to gambling while still minors (as if gambling addiction wouldn't be so dangerous at adulthood ). But don't look at everything negatively, as it's possible that the children of such parents, as adults (while simultaneously improving their skills), will become professional gamblers, for example, at poker, which will bring them big money, fame, influence, and so on (similar to sports). Champions are those who practice some kind of activity from a young age. Why shouldn't your friend's son become a gambling champion in the future?

When I was a child, probably all the kids around me played cards (just like adults), and I wouldn't say we all became gambling addicts. Of course, theoretically, these card games can't be considered gambling, as there was no betting (an essential component of gambling) and it were considered a simple game like children's game at the time.

It might be just as likely as it might not be. It might turn out that it won't have any effect on the child at all, since children don't always start to take up their parent's hobbies. But I admit, there are some risks for children (given the easy accessibility of gambling).

Most of the times, your kids copy and learn what they see you do and not necessarily what you encourage them to do. It might not be your intentions for them to gamble when you do it in front of them, but you’ll be surprised that they could start practicing it, even without you knowing, and maybe you might even get to find out when they’re already struggling with addiction.

I always tell people, don’t expose your kids to something you know you’re not comfortable with them doing. I can only gamble in front of my kids when I know they have the mental preparedness and maturity to handle it, so that I can also teach them myself in how to go about it so as not to end up making the same mistakes we made when we started.

Each parent has to be more sensitive to how they train their children and also be more careful by ensuring that they don't create a vulnerability that could make the children get exposed to what they shouldn't, that is why we must be more intentional about what we teach them and where we allow them to have access to.

Children often learn from what they see, they may perceive different views about gambling depending on what consequences their parents/ people they saw gambling had faced. If they had succeeded in it they might develop positive connections to gambling and might be tempted to do it when they have the ability but if they saw people losing money in it or facing bad consequences then they might avoid it later in their life. I don’t support parents gambling in front of their children. It is very wrong and should not be encouraged in our society because it has a lot  effect on the children. There are some sets of children right now in the society They are so addicted to gambling at a little age and most of them learnt gambling from their parents and we all know that if gambling is not handled very well it becomes a problem to yourself. You no longer save money, you use all your money to gamble. I never involve my children in gambling, they are not old enough to understand and master emotions, I would risk doing enormous damage to their growth.
Some time ago, in some similar discussion, a guy said he was explaining gambling to his 16-year-old daughter. I fully agree with you, because this greatly affects children and parents sometimes do not understand this. Children should not be shown gambling, and those gamblers who love poker and roulette should not talk about it in a positive way in front of children. Exposing our gambling activities in front of our kids can makes them follows what we do. They will asking many things about the game before they try with their friends. They could play if we are not in our home or they can play in friend's home. Exposing the risky behavior to our kids is not good for their mentally and that can memorized when they grow up. That is true though my child has seen me playing and she is 5 years old, she cannot associate my playing slots with money, she plays in her tablet games where she says she needs to pass this level and become better. Of course I used to play in front of her and now I almost never do and when I play I do so while she is asleep. I don't want to set a bad example for her in life and then see her make wrong choices influenced by what I showed her, even if done unintentionally. It is better to never play in front of kids or if you cannot stay without playing then use your phone and change page as soon as your child comes near you.

Children could copy almost everything they see with their two eyes,parents should be mindful of what they do around they children especially if it something that is awful. Parents shouldn't gamble around kids who are under 18 years of age because they  have not reached the minimum required age to gamble. As long as kids are seeing their parents gambling,they may want to try it out themselves and that's how they will start gambling and their parents may not be aware and by the time their parents find out, the children have already gone far in it and it would be difficult to separate them from it.

Kids and gambling... Not again... My kid see me going to work everyday, knows that I earn money there and use those money to buy various things and pay everywhere. So far I dont see my kid being like sponge, trying to copy me and rush to start working. Dont see big interest in starting to work early. Dont see how kid is trying to imitate me. Dont see curiosity and wish to try working No matter was the age, 3 or 17

Dont be one-sided thinkers. Kids are different. Some copy parents or adults behavior, some dont. Some are interested in gambling, some ignore that (both after seeing parents gamble). Some kids will learn about gambling outside their home and start gambling, some listen to their parents and dont do that until they turn adults. If you saw or read somewhere that kid got addicted to gambling, that does not mean that every single kid in the world after seeing someone gambling will start gambling himself and become addicted.

Depends on how you educate your own children because even if your children know that you do gambling but you can educate them well, it can be used even as an early education which can be something useful for their future.
I'm gambler and I have a son who have already caught me gambling when he was 10 and he asked me many things about it due to his curiosity.
I told him many things about gambling especially the basic things and now he knows about it better, even he some times warn me when I'm gambling.

What I know about kids is that the children we are having in our life are no longer the old school children we used to have before. We have children that are now smart and focus, they know are quick to learn and repeat what any one those around them which is why it's not advisable to do things in their face. We are now in computer age where everything can be access as quick as possible, we have android tabs for children they learn fast and access to information.

Some people will think that you are against their livelyhood that's why they don't like it when you give them an advice. I will not allow an underage child to know about gambling, I will be so protective because such early exposure has made many children lose focus. By the time they reach the age they want to gamble and have all the fun they want, I will let them enjoy their life as long as they have the funds to enjoy the gambling.

I think we wont know what real effect does gambling in front of children would do. Nobody would dare to run such test. Nobody would run this test for many years to find out what if what we had or will have is long lasting effect or one time effect. It might be that there is no use to discuss effect, as gambling already isnt welcomed by society, what tells me that any post or discussion will be about gambling giving negative effect on children.
