Not sure if others have seen this news,

She tweeted months ago on How to sell his Bitcoin and most likely the criminals saw her post and then she became the target. Lucky her, the husband has a gun ready and he shot those criminals. What if those victims didn't have a chance like this?

Gotta be honest, it looks to me like she and her husband staged that attack in order to get some extra exposure, as you can't have enough of that when you are OnlyFans "content creator".  Tongue

People who are renowned in the industry can only provide more security for themselves, i am talking about founders and co-founders of crypto services, i.e. ledger co-founder was kidnapped last year. Such people are already known to be big figures in the industry, so they have to be prepared for a $5 wrench attack by providing more security for themselves and ensure their cold wallet is kept in a very secure location.

However, i agree that the more people use BTC, the more they talk about it. And there are a lot of people who see it as a get rich quick scheme, so they believe everyone involved in crypto has probably gotten rich, lol, so that increases the likelihood of potential $5 wrench attacks.

Such people are already known to be big figures in the industry, so they have to be prepared for a $5 wrench attack by providing more security for themselves and ensure their cold wallet is kept in a very secure location.
They can bring hot wallets and decoy wallets around, that is helpful for losing big fund to attackers but it's only meaningful if attackers won't kill the victims or won't make severe physical damages. Money, big fund will be no longer important if the owner is already attacked and killed to death, hence the best is prevent such attacks to happen with you.

With renowned people, they must spend money for security guard teams in order to protect them from potential threats. With normal and infamous people, they must be very careful with privacy at beginning and never let others knowing their activities in cryptocurrency market including coins they owned.

What to do if you’re attacked

No amount of bitcoin is worth risking your life. If someone threatens you, compliance might be the safest option. If you’re using multisig, explain that you alone cannot sign a transaction. It could buy you critical time. Don’t rely upon a decoy or duress wallet to save you, as there are plenty of things that could go wrong in such a scenario.

You are speculating that the amount in your decoy wallet is plausibly large enough to satisfy an attacker whose knowledge and motivations you have know way of knowing.

I think the obvious answer is yes, due to the popularity of Bitcoin, physical attacks has increased in the last couple of years.

And this year alone:

https://github.com/jlopp/physical-bitcoin-attacks/blob/master/README.md

So everyone should be aware of the 5 dollar wrench attack, just keep a low profile and don't tell anyone about your Bitcoin or crypto in general as you don't know who are listening.
This is very serious to see that these attacks happened just this year alone and it seems like France, is the hub of these crypto robbers because from the image and a couple of stories about physical crypto theft that I've heard before happened in France. I've not heard any stories about a crypto wrench attack in my country yet, despite that we have a lot of crypto holders, I guess Nigerian robbers prefer cash more than cryptocurrency.

Kidnappings are very common in some parts of the country but their ransoms have always been in physical cash, I hope that they don't start targeting crypto holders in the country. Except for a few crypto influencers in the country most of the crypto holders are low keyed. Our Bitcoin is our private property so we need to be private about it to avoid being targeted by robbers who can harm and kill to get what they want.

Has increased Bitcoin popularity resulted in an increase in Wrench attacks? Does anybody know? If so, are well-known public Bitcoin holders adequately prepared for the Wrench?

 Grin Grin

Yes more holders mean more targets.

there are 58 million addresses with coins in them. Many addresses have 0.1 btc or less but a lot have over 0.1 btc

so there are millions of targets over 0.1 btc.

I do not give a fuck about famous people and their BTC

I've seen that and it's a scary thing for a holder to happen. Don't be so vocal with your holdings in the internet. Although there's also a possibility that rika is right that this might be a staged incident and all done for the clout and content. However, regardless of it's a content or not, this has happened to the people who's known to have bitcoin holdings. So these bad incidents is also a result of adoption while these criminals are targeting those with holdings. We as holders need to preserve our privacy even on how proud you are as a holder.

Adoption may increase awareness of Bitcoin but I doubt it directly leads to more wrench attacks. What I think really creates that risk is public exposure. If someone openly talks about holding large amounts of Bitcoin or ties their identity to their wallet activity, they naturally become a more attractive target.

Most experienced bitcoin users avoid that by keeping their holdings private and by not advertising their involvement publicly. In many cases, privacy is the first layer of security even before we start talking about wallets or storage methods.
It's common for anyone whose identity is tied to any fortune to be at the risk of attacks and that's what has made even the least bitcoiner to be a subject of attack even with a good portion of sats attached to your identity. Staying quiet on your bitcoin holding and acting broke without showing offs can pretty save someone from an exposure attack. Like it's common said, "people can only attack what they know", and being private with your networth as well as bitcoin ownership would prevent any form of wrench attack on your path.

To be fair, it is not really responsible thing about bitcoin or our protection because in reality if we are going to live our life like we have to protect ourselves, then everyone is in danger. Like if you enter my Home, there are many things you could sell, I mean you could make thousands of dollars from these.

I have a PC, a TV, and other some gadgets and what not, even wife has like all those earrings and what not, jewellery that women wear, I am sure if you took them all and found a pawn shop to sell, those must be worth some. Police are the ones who needs to stop this, it is not our duty, if someone breaks into your home, I do not think that bitcoin is responsible for it, many people have money that's not in bitcoin and people still break into their homes too.

As of now there is yet cases here in my country but of course we dont want to wait that this happens everyone who have their crypto coins is we do recommend to stay vigilant not all the time we need to flex our wins and gains because there are people right there willingly like do all of the thing just to steal our money and its crypto the people cant do any thing to track and find the wallet address easily and could recover so better not only secure your asset but also secure yourself at risk.

Better to stay humble.

The more crypto is known for, the more actors like these would want to profit from others' expense, unfortunately. It's inevitable.

There is a lot to be learnt here, there are people in the world who are looking for their next perfect victim, this is the case of this news, what if things decided to go south with them? Maybe they won't be among the living anymore.

If for any reasons I have to talk about Bitcoin or crypto it would be in a anonymous style, for example this forum, where address or face ID isn't needed to use the platform.

People are hungry, things are getting tougher in the world, not everyone will have the good mind to keep accepting things the way they turned out to be, some people are ready to turn bad in an instant.

Want to be famous but for what?

If becoming famous can help earning more money, it can be explained as reasons to do it, but if flexing and becoming more famous don't help anything in income, that activity is very stupid. Even with the first purpose, it's already stupid as there are many ways of earning money, getting income and it's not necessarily to become an influencer with risk of physical attacks.

It's especially more stupid if people knew of reported physical attacks but just ignored a risk and repeated mistakes of the others with consequences that sometimes are very severe.

She tweeted months ago on How to sell his Bitcoin and most likely the criminals saw her post and then she became the target. Lucky her, the husband has a gun ready and he shot those criminals. What if those victims didn't have a chance like this?
To be honest, when I saw your comment it made me a bit curious. It felt strange to me that someone who invests in bitcoin would not know about this matter. Normally, people invest in bitcoin with a strong sense of privacy but if we do not properly understand how that privacy works, it can easily lead to problems for us. As an investor, I believe a person should clearly know how bitcoin can be sold and how the process works.

It was a good point that the victim had a gun for self-defense because if they did not have that protection, the situation could have been worse for them. The criminals may not have come only because of the bitcoin issue, there could also be other reasons behind the attack and if it is properly investigated those reasons might come out. In many homes there are valuable things that can be stolen and later sold for money. I believe the house that was attacked may have had some important items, the criminals possibly targeted those valuables. It is important for all of us to protect our privacy and also keep some means of self-defense at home so that we can protect ourselves in difficult situations.

Not sure if others have seen this news,

I'm quite confused  and don't know which to really believe judging this one  is having a footage but it  look like it was made up  for engagement to me aswell lol.
My sauce Amouranth story had a different narration. I don’t understand how a hostage at gunpoint was able to make a tweet before eventually calling the husband and leading them to his location. Could be true though but anyways  they are safe, that's what really matters.

Has increased Bitcoin popularity resulted in an increase in Wrench attacks? Does anybody know? If so, are well-known public Bitcoin holders adequately prepared for the Wrench?

 Grin Grin

The increasing adoption of Bitcoin has contributed to the recent surge in wrench attacks. Just consider that a few years ago, when Bitcoin wasn't as popular as it is now, wrench attacks were probably rare because Bitcoin adoption wasn't as widespread as it is now, and not many people knew what Bitcoin was. However, now more people are aware of what Bitcoin is and its value. Furthermore, with so many influencers and major Bitcoin investors coming out publicly and showing off their Bitcoin holdings, criminals see the potential for significant profits from targeting these individuals. So it's not surprising that some big Bitcoin investors hire security for themselves to avoid unwanted things, even though it won't completely eliminate the risk.

However, now more people are aware of what Bitcoin is and its value.
People got richer with Bitcoin and Bitcoin adoption growth more means it appears more on media. There are more bad people like hackers and attackers who are ready to do their dirty jobs for stealing bitcoins from victims either in online and digital space or in physical attacks in real life. There are chances and risk but people can control risk if they know about physical attacks, risk of death, and realize the importance of having privacy and anonymity.

When they understand about these things, they will change their practice in both environments, digital and physical, that will help their life more safely and their coins more secured with less risk of hacks or attacks.
