Honestly, I think that phrase of his is more an effect of momentary confidence than proof that he has discovered some secret to "creating his own luck".

You mentioned a sporting event, so I can conclude that there is a lot of room for technical analysis and acquired experience, which counts for a lot in this type of betting, and it may be that the feeling of control he has and the mitigation of some risks he would have in slot betting is giving him the false sense that everything is "luck".

He as a sports fan might have advantage already as he study the games and so he knows what to bet and with that, his chances could skyrocket. But still though, we can't discount that there is a element of luck even in sports betting as we really don't know what will be the outcome.

This euphoria sometimes occurs after a win. Although I think your friend was just bragging about his success and exaggerated his ability to "manage luck." Maybe he's into manifestations and positive thinking. Some people really believe in this nonsense. If you keep repeating to yourself that you want something(money, success, a girlfriend, happiness, etc.) and you trick your mind into believing that you will get those things, they will eventually come. This is a total delusion if you ask me, but some stupid and superstitious people believe that it can happen. Just wait until the guy, who "makes his own luck" starts losing at sports betting. I think it's unnecessary for your friend sharing his lucky winning on his status. Most times, we're even the architect of what befalls us. He doesn't know who's seeing his status, and he's announcing to everyone who's on his contact list that he just made some bucks. We should know how to be discreet in somethings. Their is no assurance in gamble, that's just the honest truth in the game whether you like it or not, perhaps if we were by any way in charge of significant winning in gamble, I don't think most casinos or the betting platforms would have still be in business till now because the rate of winning would have been so massive that the casinos and co would have been left with no option than to short down.
