▌ WHAT IS BURNCHAT?BurnChat is a disposable chat room service. You create a room, get a link, share it with whoever you want to talk to, and chat. When you're done, hit the burn button. Every message, every image — gone. Not "deleted." Not "archived." Gone from memory. Permanently. In milliseconds.
No sign-up. No email. No phone number. No account. Pick a nickname, start talking. That's it.
We don't store your messages in a database. We don't write them to disk. They exist in server RAM while the room is active, and they vanish the moment the room closes. There are no logs, no backups, no analytics, no way for us — or anyone else — to read what you said after the fact.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
▌ HOW IT WORKS① Go to
burnchat.io and click "Create a room"
② Pick a nickname — any name, we don't check
③ Share the room link with whoever you want to talk to
④ Chat — text and images, all in-memory
⑤ Hit
BURN when you're done — everything is destroyed instantly
The whole process from opening the site to chatting takes about 3 seconds. Burning takes 1.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
▌ FEATURES| 🔥 Burn Button | Any participant can destroy the room. All messages wiped from RAM. All users disconnected. Room ceases to exist. No undo. |
| 🔒 Room Passwords | Lock your room at any time. New joiners need the password. Set it, change it, or remove it on the fly. |
| 🔗 Custom Room URLs | Choose your own room name — burnchat.io/my-secret-room — or let us generate a random one. |
| 📷 Image Sharing | Send images. Auto-compressed in your browser. Never touches our disk. Lives in RAM, dies with the room. |
| 📝 Zero Logs | Web server logging: off. System journal: off. Application logs: off. Request tracking: off. Analytics: none. |
| 👤 No Accounts | No email. No phone. No registration. No identity. Just a nickname that exists for the life of the room. |
| ⚡ Auto-Burn | Toggle auto-burn in any room. When the last person leaves, the room self-destructs instantly. No grace period. |

▌ ZERO LOGS — WHAT THAT ACTUALLY MEANSWe hear you — every service claims to care about privacy. Here's what we actually did:
► No database. Not MySQL, not MongoDB, not Redis, not SQLite. Nothing. Messages live in a JavaScript Map object in RAM.
► No disk writes. The server process never calls fs.writeFile, never opens a log file, never touches the filesystem for chat data.
► No access logs. Nginx access_log is set to off. Error_log points to /dev/null. There's no record of who visited or when.
► No system journal. The systemd service routes stdout and stderr to null. Nothing reaches journald.
► No analytics. No Google Analytics, no Mixpanel, no tracking pixels, no cookies, no fingerprinting. We don't know how many people use BurnChat today.
If someone handed us a court order tomorrow asking for your chat history, we'd have nothing to give them. Not because we're refusing. Because there's nothing there.

▌ WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU HIT BURNPeople ask, so here's the exact sequence:
1. Server sends "room-burned" signal to all connected users
2. Every socket connection is forcefully disconnected
3. All background timers (cleanup, expiry) are cancelled
4. Message array length set to zero — every reference to every message removed
5. User map cleared — no record of who was in the room
6. Room deleted from server registry — the ID maps to nothing
7. JavaScript garbage collector reclaims the freed memory
Steps 1-6 happen in one function call. Single-digit milliseconds. The data was in RAM only, so once dereferenced, it's gone the way spoken words are gone — the bytes get overwritten by whatever the server needs next.
There is no recycle bin for RAM. There is no "undelete." The conversation existed as electrical charges in silicon, and those charges have been repurposed.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
▌ WE DON'T CARE WHY YOU NEED ITWe're not going to pitch this as "for journalists" or "for activists" or "for enterprise teams." Maybe you're planning a surprise party. Maybe you're sharing passwords with a coworker. Maybe you're having a conversation you'd rather not keep. Maybe you just like the idea that when something's over, it's actually over.
All of that is fine. You don't owe us an explanation.
No sign-up form. No terms tracking your behavior. No questions. Open, chat, burn, gone.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
▌ TECHNICAL SPECS- Room lifetime: Auto-cleanup when the last user leaves
- Max message history: Last 100 messages (for late joiners), older ones already gone
