Hey guys,

With everything going on in Iran right now, the conflict heating up, strikes hitting infrastructure, all that chaos, I've been thinking a lot about how it's messing bitcoin mining there. Iran used to be this hotspot because of the super cheap subsidized power right? but between the ongoing power shortages, heavy sanctions, government crackdowns on illegal ops, and now the grid getting threatened by military stuff, it feels like the whole scene has gotten way more sketchy.

From what I'm seeing, a ton of mining there is underground/illegal anyway (like 95% unlicensed rigs according to some report) and the start has been raiding them or forcing shutdowns during shortages. With the current instability, power outages could wipe out operations quick and rigs dont like flickering electricity at all.

So honest question: is anyone still running rigs in Iran and making it work or has it basically become too dicey/unreliable to bother? Are people managing to keep things stable somehow or is the grid just too fragile at this point?

i've been eyeing alternatives like hosting services to get away from that kind of headache. Places like oneminers (they've got spots in the US like South Carolina, Georgia, now Houston too, with power around 5-6 cents/kwh, 24/7 monitoring, secure facilities, no blackouts, no raids) or the classics like genesis mining and hashflare in more chill locations (US, Europe, Canada). Seems way safer if you're not into gambling on geopolitics.

For anyone who's mined through war zones, heavy instability, sanctions crackdowns or similar messes in other countries, how are you coping? Do you just relocate everything to stable hosting setups, spread risk across multiple spots, or stick it out locally with backups/generators/whatever? Is moving to a place like oneminers US facilities the move for peace of mind or are there still ways to make local mining viable with precautions?

Really curious to hear from people who've dealt with this stuff firsthand, no fluff, just real talk on what's working or not. Thanks in advance!

How do you imagine mining in a war zone? Do you think they teach such skills anywhere?

Until the price of Bitcoin returns to at least $100,000, mining won't be very popular. Even at 5 cents, the payback period is very long.

Mining in Iran is still technically possible, but the war and energy situation have made it riskier and less predictable than before. Iran became a big mining hub because of cheap subsidized power, but that same grid is now under strain and subject to outages and even potential disruptions from conflict.

More background on how war and energy pressure could impact mining:

There is no electricity and internal in Iran since few weeks ago. There has been a blackout since 28th of February when United States and Israel invaded the country. The recent war make 99% of Iranians not to have electricity.

In bitcoin mining, electricity and internet are both important and needed. Can you be mining without electricity and internet? That is not possible. Mining bitcoin in Iran right now is not possible. But if the war is over, it can be possible and better again.

around 3%

so if the rest of the world added 1%.

It means Iran is around 4% of the worlds hash rate.

Roughly 40Eh

or 40,000Ph

or about 160,000 S21xps.

I suppose this could be the case.

According to the report I saw online it is said that electricity is not completely off nationwide in Iran, but some power facilities were damaged during attacks made by the US and Israel causing local power cuts in certain areas, meaning some part of the nation’s still has electricity.
The internet access in Iran is heavily restricted by there government because of the war, and in many places it is almost completely cut off because they see it as a threat.
It’s not possible to min in a war zone, Iran is at war and thinking of mining right now in Iran with this kind of situation is just too risky and impossible.
So is not possible and is not just a risky thing to do but a foolish thing to do.

Even with generators and satellite internet, only a very brave adventurer would want to engage in this. Mining isn't currently profitable enough to warrant doing so in a country at war with the US.
If this conflict continues for a long time, mining will definitely not be profitable. And after the war, the government will have more pressing priorities for energy distribution.

It's simple to imagine without asking, what would you do right now if there is a war on your country and you are mining Bitcoin? I bet your mind won't be at rest, bomb can drop at any time and you can lose your life. As I imagine it I wouldn't be able to think about mining because my mind will be on safety first.

I can only mine in a warring country if I have an underground bunker with electricity, then there is nothing to worry about but still I will hope for the war to be over very soon, this is exactly how I will feel, the fear will be all over you.

Even if electricity is available, internet on Iran is down almost 100% according to https://mastodon.social/@netblocks/116209365909674855. And if people wonder about using starlink, Iran government have history of jamming it's signal.

Related thread, oneminers dot com is a probable scam mining company.
