Confused about ranks, merit and Copper Member

Hi everyone,

I'm still trying to understand how the ranking system on the forum works and I came across something that confused me a bit.

While looking at some profiles I found this one:

This user has 1263 activity and 523 merit, which from what I understand should already qualify for a pretty high rank (maybe Hero Member?).

But the profile shows Copper Member, which made me wonder how that works exactly.

Is Copper something that replaces the visible rank?
Or is it possible to have a lot of merit but still appear as Copper Member for some reason?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding how merit and ranking actually work.

I'm also trying to understand something else as a newer member:

What exactly is required to unlock avatars on the forum?

Some people say you need Full Member, others say Copper allows more permissions, so I'm a bit confused.

From what I found so far it seems the requirements are something like:

Full Member → 120 activity + 100 merit

But I'm not sure if that is still the current rule.

Right now I'm trying to learn how the forum progression works and how people move from Member → Full Member.

If anyone with more experience could clarify this I would really appreciate it.

Copper membership is usually bought to bypass certain posting limitations (posting images).

The user you're showing probably bought it back when he first created the account because he didn't want to wait until he become Jr. membership... It just happens that he kept wearing it. He could take it off if he wanted to, and his actual rank would then show.

If you bought the Copper member, you can choose to use the Copper Member rank or your normal rank like Hero Member or Legendary at any time. You can change from one to the other.

If you reach full member you can use an avatar. But you can buy copper before you reach full member to use an avatar and post images without requiring the merits and post count.

Yes the merit system still work with the way you describe the activity and merit

You need to be up to full member rank before you can wear the avatar that you asked of, and your activities need to get to the required number, as it updates every 14 days; those activities and merits contribute to your rank and nothing more.

If you haven't you should go read those in the beginners and help boards as well as those on this meta board also there you'll find how ranks work how merits work and even how activity works. Once you've done that then you might ask further questions here.

Nobody will want to rewrite what is already readily available for you. If you plan to stick around longer too it's best you understand from the source directly.

Corper membership is bought as a newbie to enable you post pictures. However, it's optional. Majority of people buy corper member are those promoting their brands here like casinos and exchange so that they can post pictures of their services. Some members might just still buy it to have it on their profile.

I read them, but I didn’t understand how that user was no longer a full member and was left only with copper status. That’s why I made the post; otherwise I wouldn’t have asked anything. Now that people explained it to me, it makes a lot more sense. I think that’s what the forum is for, to help each other. I understand your point as well, but there are still some things I can’t find.

Incredible, now I understand why almost everyone has casino ads in their signatures. I didn’t understand that before. Honestly, I’m mostly in the collectibles section of this forum and I haven’t explored the other categories. Thank you very much. I consider this post closed.
