Personally winning early for me sets the mood and gives me the confidence of how I proceed going forward, if I lose my first bet this just instills fear and doubt such that even winning options would make you doubt yourself a 100fold.. but like OP suggested .. winning can bring overconfidence and breakout into greed and you don't want this to happen as loses can follow you.
