Bitcoin The Movie?

I think that there are already some documentaries about bitcoin that can be watched and I don't see that it is something that is welcomed by most bitcoiners because it is not important enough to discuss, even if it was made into a movie, the storyline would only discuss things that are not in depth about bitcoin and most of the things are not important because the purpose is for entertainment and the film studio will also make the film seem more like just entertainment to attract people to watch it so that it will make the film the same as an ordinary film and not have that impact on bitcoin.

I always thought a movie about Ross based off the book American Kingpin would be a great bitcoin movie. If it was done in the same style as The Social Network movie.

As for entertainment, then that's possible, but as for understanding BTC better, i believe there are so many other ways to get to know about BTC, than a movie. All you need do to understand BTC better is to be active in this forum, or read the many comprehensive articles about BTC on the internet.

A movie about BTC would contain a lot of embellishments to make it interesting, and that could take away some important facts and lessons about it. However, if one is ever made, i would surely watch it, not to learn a thing from it, but to see what was done.

A well-organised or planned movie for which the producers gathered relevant information for could be helpful to understand a concept. Such a movie could help newbies to have a fast understanding of Bitcoin.

However, I would confirm that most of the movies about Bitcoin have been disappointing. The last movie I saw titled Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery was not encouraging. And many of them thay claim to unveil Satoshi ended up causing more confusion.

One thing that would make a Bitcoin movie really interesting is the human side of the early community, at first, it was not a big global movement,  it was just a group of researchers, developers and some curious people discussing the ideas on forums, where these people would meet and discuss developments as the software was created and tested. Once these people began using the software,  they began to realize that this experiment would work. All these interactions would show how a small community of people created something that became a whole movement. Showing the community how Bitcoin became a whole movement would help people understand how  something this small eventually became so influential.

Another interesting perspective would be the challenges and doubts that the early believers in Bitcoin faced. When Bitcoin appeared,  most in the world saw Bitcoin as a useless digital currency. It would be interesting to explore how the early faithful supporters endured and remained devoted to Bitcoin throughout all of the uncertainty.

The greatest mystery of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto,  is a topic that filmmakers could really play with creatively,  If the film were to leave the character partially mystery,  that alone will make the story even more intriguing and probably keep the viewers to discuss among themselves long after the film is over.

Yeah, the early forum community would be the most interesting part. It started with a small group experimenting with an idea, and now Bitcoin is used everywhere, even on platforms like bitcoinbetting.

Curious if there is any movie about the making of bitcoin? I have only found that one documentary of Finding Satoshi but I will be more interested in watching a movie about the makings of bitcoin itself. Just like The Social Network where it showed how Facebook was made and what events led to one another. I do feel that a movie about bitcoin would make people understand it better and would be entertained in the process.

Which actor do you want to see play as Satoshi if ever?

Some movies do exist about Bitcoin  as regards documentary and drama or fictional movies. However am yet to see any movies about Satoshi even though we might be expecting more movies about this subject of Satoshi to be released in this 2026.

Movies like Banking on Bitcoin, The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin,Cold Wallet, Crypto, Bitcoin Heist, and soon to be released movies like Money Electric, Killing Satoshi, all say so much about Bitcoin, it's technology and founder just like that of Facebook.

I really don't have any favorite actor in mind for the role of Satoshi in a movie, but I would like to be surprised.

Same thoughts here. Most likely it will be oversimplified. If it’s to cater to masses, they wouldn’t make it technical at all. Rather make it more “entertaining” by humanizing bitcoin or showing the human side of it. The missing piece is Satoshi though. They have no information on Satoshi that is why it’s hard to write a story.

I think this would be an excellent movie regarding the history of BTC and its mystery founder on how everything came to be.

Haha. Really gonna be overwhelming entertainment regarding the subject of the movie. However, we shouldn't expect to see the untold factors about Satoshi's journeys to how bitcoin mysteriously became a reality project. Though an overview of it essence could be overemphasized while the white paper documentaries plays the roadmap to direct the show.

The problem, however, is on how cryptocurrencies would be portrayed given that the government views BTC both as a boon and a bane. I somehow doubt if they would allow to have it created as a movie but I would be interested if it did.

That's another food for thought because not every governments likes the decentralized ideal of the technology but still, government approval may not be a problem but depends the region that the filmmaking will take place if it's a crypto friendly place or not. Perhaps the unfriendly crypto regions where crypto related services or events are prohibited can only ban the movie not to cross their border.

For the actors, since you mentioned about it OP, well that’s debatable given that “Satoshi” is a Japanese name. But in reality, it really might be just a screen name and his identity could be another race.

It's all unproven speculations about Satoshi place of origin, so anyone country can play the part. Someone already suggested that the actors should mask up and I think it's a nice suggestion too.

Hollywood is currently producing a thriller titled Killing Satoshi that said coming in this year. But lot of movie that basically discuss about Bitcoin I personally watched Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery (2024): A recent HBO documentary that investigates the identity of Satoshi. It even proposed a theory that developer Peter Todd is Satoshi.

As rightly said by some other friends in the thread, a movie about the creation process of Bitcoin and the events of that time cannot be made because you need to have significant information about everything to actually be able to achieve something like that, and we barely have a lot of people from that time available among us right now to actually narrate everything so that a filmmaker can actually make a film out of it, making it fictional and adding a lot of things that didn't actually happen would make the movie useless and it won't serve the purpose of educating people about its creation process and how it was all done.

So I don't really think such a movie can be made, unless someone decides to actually create the story from their own side collecting as much details and information as they can and then adding some things from their own side going with the thought that things might have happened this way, but as I said earlier, I wouldn't be interested to watch a fictional movie about Bitcoin, its creator, and the creation process, and since there isn't enough information available about it, a completely truth-based movie cannot be made.

I think the movie can be made through another person's perspective, making Satoshi a mysterious character.  This is about the Bitcoin movie, how Bitcoin is created, and can be pictured out from known personalities perspective, like the pioneer developers that help out Satoshi in testing BTC, though there is a need to have a lead person here from the pioneer developers, I do not know who is the most fitted one to be the main character and see how Bitcoin promulgated through his angle of perspective.

So, I think the movie can be created perfectly even without exposing Satoshi's identity, after all it is all about the creation and propagation of Bitcoin, the purpose and the hiccups as Bitcoin adoption spreads.

The Bitcoin story dont to be changed, if I understand correctly. So of course there will be drama and action, but the basic idea remains the same. It is being called as a thriller. Production will probably take a while. I hope they will release a few trailers, and we can get a small view about the movie. I hope to see how the miners will be placed in the movie. Maybe in a bunker, or way out on the water I hope this will catch a lot of people to be a Bitcoin holder, and the number of active users here on the forum maybe increase.

It could be an interesting plot to focus on Satoshi and the creation of Bitcoin and if the production could make it more interesting for the general public. But it would be more on the fictional side since there’s only limited information.

But if it got attention and even if it’s fictional, it could be a controversy or debatable thing in this space regarding what is facts and what is fictional. And even if it would be labeled as fictional, the public might think that it’s real when they started getting interested in Bitcoin.
