I did not know if they have been divorced at the time, but according to the court, it is an estranged wife. The oldest daughter of the ex-husband tell her father the plan of his ex-wife. The father used CCTV to know that her ex-wife used CCTV to know where the password of his Trezor is which is a six digit code. Used it to steal his 2,323.28423347 BTC, sent the bitcoin to 71 bitcoin addresses which remain dormant since 2023 after it was stolen.
Well, look, another typical mistake: storing all btc coins in one wallet. Why couldn't they have split bitcoins into two or three wallets? Then it wouldn't have been possible to steal all the coins at once. Risk diversification is the key to secure storage.

If it was a trezor wallet, it has a hidden wallet feature that requires a separate password. The wallet owner could have stored some coins in this hidden wallet, which would have also helped prevent the theft of ALL bitcoins.

Another important point: only allow trusted and verified people into your inner circle (although there are never 100% guarantees).

With such big fund, I would like to split it into different wallets as it is always risky and stupid to put all eggs in one basket. That reminder is true and applicable with bitcoin storage too, as storing all bitcoins in one wallet will possible cause a complete loss in a single accident.

In addition, the fund can be stored in different wallets, and with different types from hardware wallets to software wallets, and different wallet brands too. Like I can use Bitcoin Core or Electrum wallet, and other wallet softwares to store one or some parts of that big fund. When people understand that, they will never store all bitcoins in one wallet like either Trezor, Ledger or any brand.

Cold wallets, hot wallets, different wallet brands, and split funds into multiple wallets, store them at different places, you will very likely never lose all your bitcoin.

I am wondering why the ex wife still had access to the CCTV in his home and why the seed phrase was easily visible to the cameras. Or maybe they were still married as at the time of this incident. That said, the case is going to trial and it would be interesting to see who wins.
I think they were married then and the details surrounding how she stole the funds are sketchy. However, if she installs a camera, by which she was able to steal the seedphrase, it must be through a hidden camera. In order to pull this off, she must have carefully studied the husband's behavior, like where he hides his stuff or the part in the house where he normally sits if he wants to handle financial dealings or have some privacy. This is just crazy.

When I saw this news where my mind went straight is to the point that the wife gave access to her ex husband seed phrase and we shouldn't say or conclude that she have access to CCTV cameras or not, but the bottom sign point that she already have that seed phrase while leaving with her husband, this is the point.

May be she just left the CCTV trace just to divert attention from her main plans, she absolutely has that seed phrase with her all the while.

I am not yet saying the defendant is not innocent and neither am I saying she is innocent, but there is possibility that something like this can happen.
That case gives us a lesson that those who are actually close to us can also become thieves of the Bitcoin that we have stored for a long time. Although a broken relationship can be a trigger, it all started with a partner knowing the Bitcoin assets we had. It doesn't mean all partners are like that, but it is a good idea for us to set some boundaries for certain secrets that we might not be able to share. Even with the closest people.

It will always be a great dilemma. If you don't share anything, there's a chance your coins will be lost if there's an accident and nobody knows how to recover your assets. Finding the correct balance is hard, too. I guess it will be easier if you know your partner has problems, though. I can't imagine telling my partner I have 100 BTC at home if she lies quite often, has an addiction, or something else.

That's what I thought of first. What is the reason for their divorce? As you can see, there is no question of a lack of money and instability in everyday life, which is why divorces often occur. Had she cheated on him? And decided to leave him with an empty wallet? This version is more justified, but even here, the owner himself was clearly stupid if he trusted such sums to someone who could betray. Usually, rich people buy youth by marrying young people; in such cases, a marriage contract is necessary, and attention to the appetites of a young wife is paid. If there are other reasons, then again, the owner himself is to blame; having such amounts, it is very wrong to be so naive and trusting.
There could have been a hundred reasons to why the owner may have compromised the safety of his assets, maybe at the time of the compromise, the ex wife knew nothing about bitcoin and probably had no interest in such, and maybe since he trusted her at that point in time, he felt there was no need to hide or be secretive about it and maybe since have probably forgotten to take the necessary safety precautions after the divorce. According to the news, the ex wife was able to access his wallet via the home CCTV, anyone who has access to those footage could actually do a lot with it. I’m not really concerned how it happened, what I’m concerned is Why? What could’ve led the woman to taking such an action? We can only assume what may have went down, but we can’t say for sure.

Cold wallets, hot wallets, different wallet brands, and split funds into multiple wallets, store them at different places, you will very likely never lose all your bitcoin.
More wallets means more recovery phrase, and more recovery phrase requires more responsibility to safely back them up. The reality is that more wallets does not really make your funds safer. For someone who cannot safely store one recovery phrase, imagine what would happen with two or more.

That said, i would always choose the option of adding a passphrase, rather than using too many wallets. With a passphrase, my bitcoin is safer and all i need to do is back up my recovery phrase and passphrase separately.

Stealing over 2,323 Bitcoin worth billions of dollars only review her wicked the ex-wife was to his husband, because for the fact that he had to carefully study the CCTV cameras to identify the moments he was logging into his Trezor hardware wallet to steal its access code only proves that she was never there for the love, but for the money. And the moments she knew she couldn't have access to it anymore, her next plan was to go steal it all. And this reviews why we men needs to be always cautious about our financial privacy, despite the fact that when you are married, you may be tempted to share everything with your partner. But immediately you starts noticing by sign of distrust, it's the moment you need to re-strategize and makes sure she doesn't have access to anything relating to you, including CCTV cameras. While thirdly, this should be a lesson for everyone to not log in their devices to whenever they are under CCTV cameras.

I read through parts of the legal complaint and if I understand correctly, the husband was told that the wife was planning on stealing his Bitcoins and rather than taking necessary action to protect his coins, by moving them to a new wallet, he instead chose to set up recording devices to capture evidence of her admitting to what she was planning.

If the goal was to get the wife locked up, leaving only 1 BTC in the wallet would have been enough to prove there was criminal intent. I don’t know what the thought was by allowing her to steal an amount that would be considered generational wealth.

However, for those who really want their assets to be private, it is important to be conscious of CCTV or any device that has the tendency to record. Securing Bitcoin is supposed to be absolutely private if you really want to be in control of it.

He was not aware that he was being secretly recorded according to the legal documents, however, there was other ways in which he was very careless.

People can go to any length just to ensure that they covet on what belong to somebody, human nature will always appear to us the normal way, we are going to find it more interesting to see that despite various attempts to steal, they don't get away with it, you must also take the security measures towards your asset and important priorities, which is all about safety from within to that of without.

Unless the husband did not know that the CCTV camera was installed in the house, I blame him 100%. This is pure insensitivity that shouldn't come from those who take their Bitcoin's security seriously, especially with millions of dollars worth BTC in it. Everything related to BTC wallets' security should be done in secrecy, with full mindfulness of everything in the soroundings.

There is a big lesson to learn from this topic and it is that we should always be security conscious anytime we are doing any transactions on our wallets because you don't know if someone is remotely monitoring what you are doing. So it's not just people who are physically Infront of you that you should beware of you should also consider people with phones behind you because they might be recording what you are doing and also the possibilities of CCTV cameras monitoring you. Being informed in this crypto space is very important because you might not be aware that what you're taking for granted can be a source to steal your coins. Self custody comes with enormous responsibilities to always be security conscious so you won't lose your hard earned money.

1. When you live in a house with CCTV surveillance for a long period if time, you will become less conscious of the camera. It is just like that, you will only be so conscious when it's new.

2. Remember it is about husband and wife who are indirectly regarded as one. So, it is not a stranger something. So, I will not blame the man totally about this. But then, if it is your private wallet, keep it well. Unless it's for the family and you might decide to hold it with 2 of 3 segwit wallet.

That is the luck the man have because assuming she has succeeded to withdraw all the coins from the wallet she would have sell some coins to use the funds to hire a lawyer that will stand to help her to challenge the matter in court, anyone that have such attitude is a bad human being because it would have been difficult for people to discover who carry out such evil activity to steal the coins, and it can make the owner of the coins to accuse wrong people if not that there was a CCTV in that house, I think I have learned lesson from this case because if not that there was CCTV in that house, that is how he would have lost huge amount of funds.

According to the report, the Bitcoin hasn't move yet that's why the husband has still a good chance to get it back. Assuming that the wife will reveal everything in front of the court as she might get a jail time here if proven guilty. And it looks like the judge said that the husband has a good case here. And the husband should be very proud of her daughter as she is the one who told everything to him that there was a plot to steal all his Bitcoin. We really don't know what is the background of the story, but one thing is for sure, you can't really trust anyone with that large sums of BTC.

I don't think the woman's intention is to steal and use the money. The money was moved and kept in a wallet untouched. This story is not complete because I think so many things happened behind the scenes. It is possible that the husband kept the Bitcoin secret so that she wouldn't get any share of it during the divorce settlement process. My guess is that all she wants is a share of the total sum. She would have used some part of the money if she really wanted to covet all.

If you are married to someone you trust, everything should be open. There should be no secret since both of you have an agreement to be a couple. If you are no longer comfortable with the union, ensure the divorce is done transparently. Nobody should be cheated during the sharing of assets.

Well base on the story there could be a bias right there that the husband has the rights because its his coins and his wallet and just stole by his ex-wife but apparently they are married at the law so possible there is a law with this that they need to cut the property but I dont think so if this catered with the assets such as cryptocurrency and the sad thing is she stole most of his coins so right now its quite hard to trust anybody because anyone can now betray you in an instant because if the large sum of asset. This is the reason why this could be trust no one right now.

Many people think that crypto theft happens only through hacks but this story point out something different. most times the real risk might be closer to us than we think. Many people focus on using safe wallets but forget that  people might be watching when they enter their password. The best way to avoid all this, is to never enter your seed phrase, or  password where there's cameras, always be careful who's around you whenever you're accessing your wallet, And never you store your seed phrase online or  take a screenshot of it on your phone.
