I wanted to post this in scam accusation board but I think beginners and help board can be helpful for some people to also see it, especially the newbies. We really need to be careful and protect our coins. There are just some mistakes that we may not know and we should make sure no camera is watching us while backing up our seed phrase, passphrass, private key, wallet password or while using our wallet, What if it is an online wallet, some people will blame it on malware, but not knowing that it is someone around someone that did the thing.

I am not yet saying the defendant is not innocent and neither am I saying she is innocent, but there is possibility that something like this can happen.
I have previously reminded people, to be wary of cameras that can record sensitive activities, especially when accessing our personal wallets. CCTV cameras store data on what they record, and this recorded data could be misused by unauthorized parties. Therefore, try to avoid any cameras while accessing our wallet, especially when displaying sensitive data (passphrases, private keys, etc.). It turns out, what I was worried about has happened concern has already happened. Thank you for the information OP, as we learned a valuable lesson from that incident.

By the way, there is one more thing I am most afraid of: the lens camera on my laptop. Personally, I cover my laptop camera, because I am afraid the reflection from my eyes could be recorded by the camera, whether it is intentionally, or unintentionally. It is possible that our camera is active when we allow it in the browser, or in a running application, right? So, I think we need to do that too, and I hope what I am worried about, doesn't become a real case that happens again. In essence, we need to be very skeptical about what we do.

Oh how I missed this thread since it was posted. It's actually a case scenario that most people may never think about not imagine that such thing could happen. I mean, if the man had thought of the CCTV being used to locate his keys, he definitely won't have installed them in the first place or just wipe it out. This is more reason why we must be careful who we let know about our crypto holdings. I know loved ones are people very close to our heart but at some point in life you might have to take the hardest decisions to secure your future.

I don't blame the man but his ex-wife who stole his password in their house. He trusted his wife but she betrayed him since she didn't not love him and have plans to steal from him which was why she went this far. I think that our homes should be the safest place to hide our seed phrase and valueable documents regardless whether, CCTV is on or not.

Those that are not yet married should be careful with the kind of woman you bring into your life as your wife because she might be a thieve unknowingly to you.

Even if I am married to a woman it will be very difficult for her to know my password and anything that concerns my coins, i will never trust anyone even it is my wife because some women are very good with their plan, they can spent many years with you and also gives you children and at the end they will leave, although it is very important for your family to know about your some of your secrets most especially when it comes to investment and other important things that they can inherit from you but not everybody you should trust.

Imagine someone you trust and see as your wife and all of a sudden she betrayed you, women are not someone you should share your secrets with when it comes to financial matters because they are very greedy that they can do anything about it, the man should not be blame because he did not know that it will end like that and that will be a lesson for many of us that use to trust our woman just because she is making us happy.

No matter how a man trust his wife, he shouldn’t let her have access to his wallet phrase. A woman can be your best friend today and tomorrow she turn to your worse enemy. Where money is involved, be careful of women. Most women are just with men because the men are providing for their needs. Your key should be yours alone to know its whereabouts. Keep it private, write it down store it somewhere and let no soul know about it.
For example if the owner actually dies or falls sick and loses memory and this bitcoins are actually an investment to help Carter for his kids or let’s say inheritance then without anyone knowing of the existence of this investment this means that the funds are actually lost for forever without him. Isn’t this much more a cruel way of losing the investment meant for your offspring. So no matter how we put it the sad reality is even if a trust worthy person is scarce you definitely have to one time trust someone with that information of the wallet.
You writing down your seed phrase in a paper and storing it somewhere in your house is enough trust. If anything happens to you and your family is unable to find where the seed phrase is then life goes on, none of them will die because they didn’t find your seed phrase. That should be your contribution to the bitcoin community because you have just succeeded in reducing the number of bitcoin that will be in circulation. After all people die and banks eats their money and life goes on. Moreover you knowing that something like this could possibly happen, you won’t center all your investments in bitcoin.

You should also have some physical assets investments that your family will hold on to should there be a sudden occurrence that you are no more and them being unable to find your wallet phrase. You will have peace of mind that way than trusting your wife with your wallet phrase, and she mend away with your hard earned money and be spending it with her young lovers or funding her lifestyles. This will even kill you faster than you can ever imagine. Your seed phrase belongs to you alone and nobody should know it’s whereabout while you’re alive.

He trusted his wife or didn't even trusted completely, but didn't take the ultimate caution that cost him 2000+ bitcoin now. So we can't really trust anyone anymore because the wife is someone who we share everything with, which apparently means our finances too.

These kind of stories make me more afraid of this world, do we really become that cruel? Betray the one who trusted you completely...

Probably that ex‑husband never even looked at her face closely enough to notice she has both eyes and ears. Grin

The lesson learned from this case reinforces my view that when dealing with crypto you should trust nobody not even relatives. In fact for their own safety it might be better if they don’t even know you have any involvement with crypto at all.

People worry about malware all the time, but physical observation is probably one of the most underrated risks in crypto security. Even with a hardware wallet, someone watching you enter a PIN or record a seed phrase can be enough to compromise everything.
It’s a good reminder that protecting your environment is just as important as protecting your device.

Personally, I tend to keep my secret keys strictly to myself, so trust isn’t really the issue in my case. But of course there’s a downside to that approach, if something happens to me, the keys could be lost with me as well.

That is why keeping the seed phrase is the number one thing you should do, also malware can steal it, once they have enough access they could steal those seed phrase in the background without you knowing this is why you should not use your main computer on other things like browsing to a site that you should not go, like where virus or malware are there.
Malware is so dangerous everything can be steal, once your computer is infected, it will just need to execute something and all the things that he needs will be sent to him automatically without knowing, especially if you are not a tech savvy person.

But you can have your cake and eat it too by trusting Liana wallet to store your stash. Liana is capable of generating spare keys which are generally inactive but automatically activate when your primary key has not been used for the period of time that you set yourself. Liana is very flexible in setting various schemes that prevent the loss of funds should something unpleasant happen. I opened the dedicated thread about this wallet, and it’s definitely worth using.

I guess love got the best of this man because if not why did his wife knew about him keeping Bitcoin? To the extent that she started to spy on him?

If you want your partner to have Bitcoin let them have it kept to themselves, in a bitcoin wallet only for them and you also do the same, I don't have to hear from both sides, it matters not.

By the way, it takes one go to get your recovery seed and keep them offline, it's a one time thing, but how or why did he have to view his recovery seed again for the camera to have a glance at it? I'm confused at that point.

Most people will think at first look that it is computer virus that has stolen their money, this fact shows that physical watching is far more common and scary weakness. In order to stay safe, it is very important to use your personal keys in room that is not fitted with cameras or other smart tools, and to add to their protection with extra safety steps such as 25th word passphrase or multi-sign wallet. This will make sure that in case someone sees your main recovery words, they will still not be able to get your money, keeping your money safe from both high tech and low tech bad software as well as home watching.

Being security conscious should be something everyone need s to put into consecration at all cost with understanding.
Having an indepth knowledge of strategic security measures that involves physical observation, mental alertness, sychological maturity, social indifference. All of this help one to know when to do and when not to do something bringing about personal carefulness and sensibility with every level of alertness.

Those that are not yet married should be careful with the kind of woman you bring into your life as your wife because she might be a thieve unknowingly to you.

The question is- did the stealing happen during the time when both the husband and the wife were still cohabiting?

This is a crucial element because as a general rule, you cannot steal anything from your spouse given that everything is within the community property. However if it is proven that the wife did steal something, then she may face not criminal liability but only civil damages in terms of indemnification.

Oh how I missed this thread since it was posted. It's actually a case scenario that most people may never think about not imagine that such thing could happen. This is also the reason on why you should know your partner before commitment. If your partner seems to manifest signs of immaturity and/or basically red flags, then you should at least think before you tie the knot.

Unfortunately, lots of red flags begin to manifest only upon the celebration of marriage which makes divorce a convenient way of challenging the status of their marriage. However, things may be already too late, like in the case of OP’s story, where the wife stole the keys of his wallet.

I guess you can't completely rely on human made stuffs, cos they'll always have their disadvantages. what he installed to keep him safe ended up being his doom, lol what an irony. I think all this isn't just about the CCTV but about the man's recklessness and, should I say stupidity. After he divorced his wife, knowing fully well she knew her way around the house, his first move hould have been to take a more drastic action towards securing his bitcoin. He was just careless, and that's what you get when you become careless with important stuffs.

The question is- did the stealing happen during the time when both the husband and the wife were still cohabiting?
From what I can see here, the divorced wife used CCTV to steal the password of her ex-husband’s Bitcoin wallet. Divorce usually happens when there are already problems in a relationship, so it is clear that this incident of theft did not occur when they were still living together as husband and wife.

Unfortunately, lots of red flags begin to manifest only upon the celebration of marriage which makes divorce a convenient way of challenging the status of their marriage. However, things may be already too late, like in the case of OP’s story, where the wife stole the keys of his wallet.
Before marriage, everyone brings out the best in themselves but after marriage, I have seen many who go through troubles in their married life and eventually divorce. It is sad to see these incidents and we have to be extremely careful as this can happen in our own lives.

people some times think that it’s only hackers that can hack your account, for me it’s even people that we trust can even do us bad more than outsiders. People who we are close to can even end up being the bigger risk. Anyone who mistakenly sees your password, seed phrase or private keys, even through camera you’re finished. I always advise people to be very careful about their password and seed phrase because that’s the only thing that protect their money from being stolen by hackers or anyone, if you have cctv in your house or working place ensure you move away from the cctv before accessing your wallet. Don’t trust anyone no matter how good the person may act because this involves your money. so you need to be extremely careful. Your idea to post it in the beginners board is very good because most newbies, don’t really know how important a seed phrase, private keys or passwords are to them.

When divorced, the resentment from both parties is already there, especially with this scenario that seems to have been planned for a long time, especially since he used CCTV to steal his password or seed phrase.
It is true that we must be careful again in our assets, especially large amounts, sometimes when you are still hesitant to trust your wife, it is better to hold it yourself without giving her years, things that don't want to always happen like this, if this is the case then we can say a little careless about our security.

No matter how careful we are, family is our place of trust but when the family starts conspiring from this family, the place of trust becomes hell. After reading this post, I thought about my family and wife for a while. I'm thinking about how I would be mentally if this happened to me. Although such a situation has never crossed my mind, after seeing this post, a different kind of cautious feeling has developed within me. I have to be more advanced in terms of being cautious so that no one can do this in a bad situation.

It should be like this, but it is not always the case.

but when the family starts conspiring from this family, the place of trust becomes hell.
That's why smart people start a family with someone they can trust completely. It's not called a union for nothing.

After reading this post, I thought about my family and wife for a while.
Run before it's too late. Smiley You should have thought about it before getting married (whether this is a partner you can trust).

I'm thinking about how I would be mentally if this happened to me.
Just like everyone else - a loser. Smiley

This means you need to think through options to protect your assets in the event of a possible change in your wife's "mood" and subsequent divorce, as in the OP's story.

A very valid point we have trusting your wife is a high level of trust and with the kind women we have now we just have to be careful because we have seen a lot of cases were a lot of things  have made a lot of people learn were some desperate wife's will even run with there husband's money with another man, and anyone that underestimates women can actually dinner with a devil then or rather even playing with fire. And another thing is that were there bad eggs there are also good eggs that is just the truth but just for story sake you just have to learn ti play safe always.

Quote
Imagine someone you trust and see as your wife and all of a sudden she betrayed you, women are not someone you should share your secrets with when it comes to financial matters because they are very greedy that they can do anything about it, the man should not be blame because he did not know that it will end like that and that will be a lesson for many of us that use to trust our woman just because she is making us happy.

Exactly because the moment everything is shared with them they they will feel like you have money and you are ain't spending it on them but as it is now a lot of people's eye are seriously opening and everyone is trying to aviod mistakes that will cost them a lot of things and that is why they are avoiding to take any chances and one thing about women is that they are easily influenced, so the best solution is to aviod all this things.

but I’m a bit surprised why will he install CCTV cameras to capture where he stored important information such as his private keys. What is the reason behind that, could it be as a result of him trying to monitor who next will come to pick the key or for it to serve as a security mechanism to catch somebody else that will want to come for the keys else he could have store it safely without having to put traceable such as the cctv cameras. Let this also serve as a lesson to many of us who think they will underrate the protection and storing of their private keys. Look at how somebody’s so called wife could trace her way until she found another person’s property, somebody’s du she called a husband after a divorce. Who knows whether she had even gotten a prior privilege of knowing where the key is and not just from the cctv camera.

Like you, those are the first thoughts that came accross my mind when first read the story. I can't find any reason for someone to install a security camera in a place that can show his secret codes. In the story, it is a modern developped camera that can show words written with small letters. I don't know if the police checked the camera records from where the wife got the seed words. If not, the wife should be had access to the seed in another way that she won't confess. Otherwise, how the husband knows about his cameras recording his secret codes and give access to the records to his wife which already has problems with.

Some human made is reliable but however what is not reliable to them are the people who is using and operating them because the CCTV did the work at which it was installed for but however it was the man that neglected what someone could do with the information the CCTV has kept for him, although is also how he and the wife was living that could possibly made him not to think in that direction because is possible that he was sure the wife never new what is called a seed phrase or anything about Bitcoin apart knowing that the husband was into investment on Bitcoin, well he will definitely wouldn't take things for granted next time.
