Simply verifying the hashes of the Bitcoin Core release you downloaded against the appropriate hash in the list here will provide some extra security, but ideally you should also use OpenPGP software such as gpg to verify that the hashes were signed by someone you trust.
Verification is the most important step that many people skip due to lack of technical knowledge. Are there any updated guides for newcomers using gpg on mobile platforms as it is becoming more common to manage nodes or wallets from there lately

I presume LP was just conflating bitcoin software in general with bitcoin core.  One might be able to run it on a mobile device in 10-15 years, but who knows.  :-)

(Obviously do things like: ensure it is the real developer, check reviews, check the history etc, but only use small amounts you could afford to lose on a mobile app you aren't 100% sure about.)
