Should I call this a myth or not?

There was this rumour that your smart TV has hidden camera and they can spy on you, this is why a friend advice his junior one to never open a new crypto wallet in front of a smart TV, or try writing down recovery seed in front of TV.

I have heard this before but I don't believe it, do you? I know that it's wrong to do same in front of your laptop's webcam, this is why I always use a paper tape on my laptop webcam because it's harder to detect if your laptop cam is already in control by hackers.

I will rule this under conspiracy theories with no real basis behind it.

Firstly, 'they' trying to spy on you is very vague. Will this be the government, private organizations or some other group. This could also lead to a huge legal problem for the brand. There are lots of workers involved in the making and any of them could reveal this to the public.

They (whoever that is) also do not need to do this if the goal is to spy on. There are already a lot of devices you own with cameras that can be used for that purpose and can be controlled remotely making it easier to hide the fact of that.

Depends on the TV and what you have connected to it. There are devices like the Meta Portal (perhaps formerly if they've been discontinued) that did have a webcam you could connect to a TV.

If your TV isn't marketed as having a camera, it probable doesn't. If you didn't connect your TV to the internet it probably won't communicate outside. If you are concerned, you can probably find a TV without WiFi or Bluetooth and plug in a firestick/chromecast/Roku box that won't have a camera or a way for the TV to communicate but just finding one that doesn't lost having a webcam is probably enough.

Idk where you did heard this rumors of your's. But it's possible to get your webcam access. But the security concerns is , if someone can bridge through your webcam than there is nothing hidden from a hacker you data. We don't just write down our seed phrase or create a wallet unders a webcame but there's lot more data we usually store in our personal desktop.

So you should focus on you security , buy some antivirus to avoid these. Do not buy some cheap Chinese television. That's all I can advise you for now.

Not true smart television have no any hidden cameras I’m saying based on the major brand I know none have any hidden cameras

As for the webcam it could be hacked actually using some malware without you knowing.

There are people who put their seed phrases in faraday bags in order to avoid frequencey-based breech attempts to their keys. Perhaps even a malicious broadcast of frequency from a...smart TV!!  

No but seriously, without telling us what make and model of smart TV, we have no way to speculate if there's a camera or not. The idea of a camera on any smart device isn't outside the realm of possibility, but hidden by the manufacturer? That's unlikely.

It's always best to perform any sort of seed-generation, seed-backup, and other seed-related activities in a room with 4 windowless walls , and with no smart devices connected to the internet at all anywhere nearby. Some people even plug in a fan for white noise so the keystrokes on let's say...an air gapped PC can't be recorded from a distancd via audio-spying.

Smart TVs are capable of a lot depending on the features they have (not specifically having a hidden camera to spy on you),  it would be the destruction of reputation for a brand that does that.

It's true that as far as this age is concerned, our security can be easily compromised but that being said, I don't think sitting in from of a TV and performing any form of crypto related stuff has the possibility of leaking your information out.

As far as I know, even if the TV can record viewers, the seed phrase is something that's too small for it to accurately dictate and so, it's mere suspicion that a thing like that is actually happening.

I believe this world is a TV show and we all being watched.

I doubt if it's true and would mean all TV companies are in it then why not mobile devices
It would be scarier if what's on one's screen can be spied on by the producer.

TV's that have cameras advertise that fact. Those that do are marketed as having gesture control or 'eco-friendly' usage monitoring to turn off if no one is actually in front of them watching them.

Other than that, most TV's do have ambient light sensors to adjust brightness. Those have NO imaging abilities.
