And who’s going to keep track of that? Only two people on the forum have access to that information. Hundreds, if not thousands, of accounts are created every day—how do you expect two people to check them all?

I would have appreciated your post more if you used your main account to create this thread, you can’t be talking about how AIt accounts are all over the place in this forum and you are using an AIt account you created to talk about that, using an AIt account to talk about this makes your idea unreasonable.

The reason why your idea can’t be applied in this forum is because of the forum mission, and restricting people on the number of accounts they can have is against that mission.

I’m not against having AIt accounts but don’t cheat or scam with them. and the forum rules is also not against having AIt account.

I will leave you with this because I know you really don’t like the too much freedom in this forum.

How do you expect the cheaters in campaigns to eat if they cannot have 10 accounts? You want people to starve?

All kidding aside, I feel like mainly the bounty campaigns are all that are feeling the hurt of users having too many alt accounts. They usually don't have a rule about newbies joining and they don't really check for alts and just pay em.

Makes no sense for the users or the staff to put in extra effort to catch bounty cheaters basically.

If admins, moderators don't proactively put extra efforts to find shit posts for cleaning up the forum, they won't have to look and find cheaters in bounties.

theymos wrote that admins need to be as free as possible.

The things on the forum which encourage spam are allowed mainly because it's part of the forum's mission to be as free as possible.

There is a report button, people just need to use it for reporting anything to forum moderators and admins.

Alternative accounts getting too much is not a problem to the forum, the problems are;

• People cheating with their alts by enrolling more than 1 in a signature campaign
• Alt account owners producing low quality posts because they must complete weekly post requirements for all their accounts.

Now, we have known where the problem is, how can it be solved.

For your suggestion of alt accounts being limited to only 2, theymos is not gonna welcome it. He believes in a free world. Moderating the forum is tedious already, adding more loads to moderators doesn't make any sense.

This is an unnecessary idea because the work it will give the moderators to enforce this is not worth the energy. Just like you creating this account just to post this, people create alt accounts for reasons even funnier than yours and I don't why Theymos and his team should waste such precious time. As long as you did not use your alt account for cheating or causing other form of harm to the forum and its users, there shouldn't be much problems.

I live with my wife she could have 2
I could have 2

if my 2 kids were not dead they could have 2 each

so that is 8 accounts with 1 ip.

You can keep those points in mind for later, but before that just take a moment to notice something. A person created a new account and asked a question like that and honestly, it surprised many of us when we saw it.

I agree with Xal0lex it's going to be very difficult to enforce regardless of if IP seems like a connecting factor plus it could be very inaccurate. There could be 2 persons in the same radius on this forum without them knowing each other and boom they are marked as alt and main accounts.

Plus even if this was a thing it's pretty easy for account farmers to still make use of VPN anytime they intend to visit the forum personally I'm only curious how they are able to manage those many accounts.

The only real law is don't get caught, especially if you are evading a ban or a red tag.

Maybe why not first start by advocating for a ban on forum account sales? That would massively discourage account farmers to create them for sale.

In other words, you want the forum to introduce KYC verification? Otherwise, how else are alt accounts going to be discovered and/or discouraged much more realistically?

Bitcoin is freedom, hence the freedom should be extended to bitcointalk forum without restricting anyone. You are not wiser than the forum's admin that allowed the use of alt account. People use alt accounts for different purposes and there's no problem with that if they didn't use them to break forum rules.

Alt accounts is not the problem, the problems are:
1. Low value posts
2. Spamming
3. Cheating
4. shit posts
5. scamming
6. Off topic replies
7. False information
8. Plagiarism
9. AI contents

The mods has a lot of work on their hands already that they can not handle having such a tedious work done with all the thousands of users that make up the forum.

Do you know why the report to mode button is there provided in the forum? Cause mods can not have their eyes completely all over every section of the forum with each user in a forum of thousands of users, this makes forum members help report disturbing and unfit posts to the mods for deletion.

To your suggestion provided, it cannot work, the mods can not do all of that, and members do not have that access as they do with reporting unfit posts.

Tens to hundreds accounts are created every day. How do you suggest forum administration to check all of them if they are new fresh accounts or alts of already existing users?
This subject has been discussed dozens of times over the years, and the admin was clear about this to be allowed for various reasons. Mainly but not limited to the freedom of speech. There are many valid reasons to have an alt account, one of them has been clearly explained by Theymos, which explains the reason of you OP why you preferred not to use your main account to post this thread:

I don't have a problem with alt accounts as long as they're not used for evading bans. If you're hesitant to say something controversial because you don't want it to be associated with your name, please create an alt account and say it.
