If someone wants to solo mine, he/she don't really need to join a p2pool...

You are correct, he/she does not need to join a p2pool if they want to solo mine. However the reason that I like p2pool is because I tried mining solo when I first started mining, and realized that I better try and get a little of something, rather than alot of nothing.

Also to prevent 51% attacks, it would help if the majority of miners would either mine solo, or join p2pool instead of mining on large centralized pools.

The problem remains that most people have a hard enough time trying to mine in the first place,  let alone set up their own p2pool node.

Not everyone has the knowledge, patience, or hardware that they'd need to do so, and since it would be better for them to mine on someone elses p2pool node than a centralized pool, they have the option of joining any p2pool node they want, unless it's private of course.
