Besides being love, God is almighty. He holds something like a kind of science that is way beyond all science of the whole universe. God can do anything, and He can't be stopped in any way. When evil seems to prevail, it is simply God for the sake of love, in His almightiness, allowing evil to prevail for a while... so that people can turn to Him and love Him and then have success.

God can do all things. If you love Him as He asks, He has your back, in every situation, even when it looks bad. Loving God is wisdom.

For me knowledge and wisdom are always together they do work hand in hand, you see when it comes to knowledge is something you learn while wisdom is how you make use of the knowledge you have in real life like when making decisions and it's not because you have knowledge you can't make bad decisions, with all the knowledge most people have they still make bad decisions but with wisdom you will know the right time and way to apply it on what you know. As a king or leader, what you need is actually wisdom and not wealth because your office has what it takes to bring wealth but without the right wisdom that will help you take care of the office you're occupying, you will have a waste of rein. The capacity that Solomon was to serve in demand an high level of wisdom and we can rightly say that it's God that has thought him his to ask the right thing and that's why he ask for wisdom which will eventually become the reason why he's able to lead his people and lead them alright.

Who asks for what he already has?
Solomon was a King, the king of Israel, so certainly he had lots of wealth, so rather than asking for what he already had, the most logical thing was possibly to ask for what you don't have, or what you don't have in sufficiency.

I saw a comment above, He knew what he needed to run a kingdom was wisdom and not more wealth. yeah he needs wealth but wealth without wisdom wouldn't give the best result at all. even for an average rich man today, without wisdom to control those wealth, it'll only take some time before he misuses those wealth.

He's managing a huge kingdom/country and that's why it is what he has asked for. He might have the wealth or riches already but without wisdom, he can splurge all of it and gone eventually while the country suffers.

Both are beneficial to a man, if you have wisdom you'll have a good judgement, understanding and decision in life. And as for the knowledge, it is what you know about things that you might encounter and it's a basic thing to have so that you won't be fooled by anyone. In modern world, when they know that you're not knowledgeable into something, you're being taken advantage of.

I agree. Wisdom and knowledge are two attributes that work side by side. Christ prayed for both wisdom and knowledge, so we, the followers, should pray for both and not give hierarchy to one over the other. However, in life, an individual can have one and not have the other. While there are still those who are blessed with both wisdom and knowledge, how lucky they are. At the same time, these attributes can be nurtured in anyone if the discipline starts at an early age.

Though, God (according to the new testament) is incompatible with the love or pursue for money. It would be incompatible with the respect one is supposed to have to God if one ask him directly to get rich.

From a non-religious perspective, I think it depends on what moral of the story the author wants to convey. We have other kings who chose wealth, i.e., Midas, and bad things happened after that. Wisdom is perfect for a king, as others have said.

If you believe the story is historical fact, then perhaps he was rich already and smart, so he chose the correct thing that could help him rule.

When God asked him to ask, he was already a king, and normally kings are not poor. I think he was contented with the wealth he has already, and it wasn't much of a big deal for him to rule as the wealthiest king, but from our own way, in present condition, for someone who is poor or barely surviving, the first wish will be wealth before wisdom.

I don't blame anyone asking for wealth over wisdom, with wisdom we can create wealth but wealth creates wealth too.

Yes you are very correct,  before his reign he was already surrounded with riches in abundance and asking for what he already has would look somehow,  although i will still commend his actions on requesting for wisdom because most people will request for more riches because they many want to be on ther top. I would say his request for wisdom was one of the best decision ever in the bible  because know one in the bible requested such when they know wealth is the greatest.
