Wisdom and knowledge work in hand to hand, but  if I must choose one, I will go for wisdom. Knowledge is to know something, but wisdom is to know how and when to use what you know. Knowledge and wisdom have their own applications, knowledge give us information about something and wisdom give us the idea that how we can use it. Knowledge is information that can be learnt over the period of time where as wisdom is something that is developed through experience, reflection and judgement. Wisdom gave us the thought to ask questions where as knowledge give us the answers to those question.

Knowledge give us the opportunity we can create them where as wisdom help us to sustain those opportunities, otherwise they can be lost. Knowledge give us power where as the wisdom guide us in the right direction. King went for wisdom and he choose it because wisdom leads to other blessings, while having wisdom he could solve problems he could create prosperity, but I think the best combination is both knowledge and wisdom because knowledge give us the tools while wisdom teaches that how we are going to use those.

Why Great kind Solomon asked for wisdom instead of riches from God is because he was already Rich and the kingdom needs wisdom to rule and not money, because it takes a brave and Wise heart to rule a nation. He just needed some portion of God wisdom to do great things because he loved God as at then. And God granted him his wish. But when he deviated from Christ, and he no longer seak God, and that's how he fell. So the point is that whoever loves God will want to work / walk with God, and trust me he's rulership when he was inspired by God and when he was inspired by man are not the same. There are things you need at the different phase of your life. At the base level where you're not all that settled, what you need is money, education, connection and all but once you've passed that level and have grown into the position of being responsible for the well-being of multiple, the wisdom to deal with those multiple is more important than any wealth you can ask for and Solomon in his wisdom already knows that and asked for what matters most.
